Oh my god I hated that. I was young when Sonic 2 came out, my brother and I would go to my Dad's house and play and that was one of the most terrifying, frustrating parts of the game!

I love the fact that it has returning stages but changes them up sooo much, they feel so familiar but totally new too!
But the best parts are the completely original stages, those are the gems of the game that makes me hope if they make a Mania 2 that it's completely original.
This is a brilliant love letter to the fans and still a great platformer for new players.
And is stuffed FULL of references to the older games and media. Even from less played titles and unknown characters or even games from SEGA that are NOT Sonic.
One of the best retro platformers in recent years.

To be fair, from what I heard both Lost World and Boom were co-designed by Nintendo, which is probz the reason why they sucked so much.
No hate on Nintendo, I actually like Mario better in both character and gameplay aspect (although no hate if you prefer Sonic), but their format just doesn't work on Sonic-games.

My little sister walked in and said "That's not right." When I asked her what was wrong, she said that Jack's webcam was on the other side of the screen and it wasn't right. I proceeded to tell her it was very much right, and I sat there, grinning. When she got the joke, she tried smacking me, but I caught her with a high five. Then she just walked out of my room, slamming the door behind her. It managed to make this video even better.

I grew up with Sonic 1, 2, Spinball, and a lil bit of 3 back when the Genesis and 64 were still goin strong. Years later when Sonic Mania came out I had died and gone to heaven. It was nostalgic, but it had its own story. Yes it rehashed a few older levels but it was still its own entity. I'm with you on loving the 2D sonic games. They were fun to play, fast at times, and challenging at others. Glad you enjoyed it too, man.
18:57 What happened is that you JUST BARELY got crushed against the ceiling of the secret area, as the platform lifted you up. Like 1 or 2 pixels of your head happened to be underneath that ceiling when the platform raised, causing you to die.

What people don't get with Sonic is that Sonic isn't about speed but he's about momentum and flow, building up your skills to get through levels faster. That's why Sonic is usually deemed as an actual speedrunning game series, because that's what it is. Building your skill up and going as fast as you can using those skills youve built. Not crapping on Jack, I'm happy that he likes this game and he's actually not that bad for a casual Sonic player. Jack is actually one of a very few non Sonictuber/fan to actually like and appreciate the games for what they are. But, and again, not attempting to crap on Jack, saying that Sonic should only have one laned stages is kinda stupid, considering we got Sonic Forces and only people who don't initially like Sonic because you have to build skill, like that game. Now in my opinion, Forces was just a test to restart Sonic, to see how people reacted and a way to appease people who have the "one lane" opinion. Jack is one of few RUclipsrs I've seen that hasn't shit on Sonic because he's not good at it and at least we know he won't outright trash the games, devs, and community. Jack isn't good and he recognizes that, he just has to build his skill if he wants to go fast. Everyone, including veteran Sonic fans have had to do that to get better, it's how it is. Again, was not shitting on Jack, I was just making a statement.

So, I just bought Sonic Mania....finally. I know, I'm late. I'm broke, it was on sale at a time when I had money, I bought it.
I've seen stuff about the game, but I've been avoiding watching people actually play through the levels. It's just a basic Sonic game, so there wasn't TOO much to spoil, but still. All I've seen are videos about glitches, out of bounds stuff, cut content, etc. I've avoiding watching full playthroughs of levels.
I finally get to watch people play this damn game. I'm only on the newspaper levels, so I'm not incredibly far, but it's about time I watch someone play. Time for some Jackoboy.

Tips for Sonic Mania:-
You can fly with tails !!! Hold up and then jump to tails, and sonic and tails will hold hands for sonic to fly !!!
New drop dash !!! While in mid-air hold the jump button and sonic will immediately dash forward when he hits the ground !!!
The "Collect Blue Sphere" special stages, they are not important !!!
The "Giant Ring/Catch the UFO/Chaos Emerald" special stages are important !!! You already collected 2 chaos emeralds, only 5 more to go !!! Also remember they are pretty hard !!! Take alot shortcuts & try not to lose rings !!!
