Broke my heart as it always reminds me of my wife before she died, We both 32 at the time, I am now 63 never remarried and think of her every single day. Love can really hurt and leave you feeling so lonely at times.
I amcarbonandotherbits. Wow
May her soul rest in peace.
My heart hurts for you and I commend you for being so strong. I can't imagine. It's so hard to find something so wonderful and have to let go. The tightest hug around you. ❤️
God bless you 🙏
I truly think your wife would be very happy to see you find more love and be happy again.
Why "more love", because you don't have to forget your wife nor stop loving her.
But you should give the new, lucky lady your true love and treat her right, not like the replacement.

Excuse poor English, I'm Japanese.
Thank you for translation. Your English is good.
Thx! xD
Thank you for taking your time to translate this touching story for us. And your english is quite fine actually !
Merci pour cette traduction en anglais que j'ai traduite en français.
En fait, comprendre le japonais n'était pas vraiment indispensable pour comprendre cette touchante vidéo et l'amour de cet homme pour sa femme et sa fille.
thanks mate
The beauty of the video is the fact that the father can NOT play the piece perfectly, but he is trying very hard for the love of his daughter and her mother.
I don't speak Japanese but this was so well directed, no one needs to to understand it.
If you thought you understood this then get some damn sleep a get off the computer good lord gurl. I rewatched it again and it just SUX., LOL I mean It aint good worth a shize-ne... Knaw mena?

Commerical??? There was more emotion in this than most Hollywood movies. We need more 'commercials' like this!!!
I'd watch the move just for the commercials.

@dominic amoe you are sick. You heart is sick. Hollywood is run by the radical left not Jews you moron.
@dominic amoe correction, it's run by far left liberals who poisoned people mind believing bible is just a novel.
To burn 3 mins on each commercial? wtf
A father may not be perfect, but will love his daughter perfectly.

My favorite part is when he hit the wrong note 2:38 , he stops, stares at the sheet, then goes back and corrects it while the bride encourages him in quiet. My tears roll down
The deadpan look on father's face, which is somehow, incredibly conveying powerful emotion nonetheless, gets to me as much as the tiny expression clues playing all over the daughter's (and then bride's) face during the story.
So veeeery Japanese, that need to get it absolutely right, even by admitting one's flaws and doing it again correctly, even in public. A very touching piece of cultural realism.
Of course, this is the crucial moment of the video sequence, when the father makes a mistake. He tries again and his daughter changes her attitude, encouraging her father. For me, the most important moment that makes me cry is when she simulates with the fingers of her right hand the typing of missed notes on the piano keyboard to help her father. It sanctifies the newfound communion between father and daughter
Watching that lonely old man trying his best, warms your heart and fills you with determination.
You don't need to understand the words to understand the love.
that part with errors near the end is extremely important.
Ya think?
The love of a father for his daughter is beyond words. When our two girls were little I told my husband the Japanese proverb that "A father is only as happy as his saddest daughter" and for 39 years he has known it to be true. This commercial also tells us that the best gift to give is not 'stuff' but of ourselves.
Screen shot this for it's profound tutoring
I came across it by chance and I can't explain why it made me cry. It is a simple message but a very powerful one. Changed my day
It made you cry because you understand love
No need to understand Japanese to understand this commercial. The bride's father learned to play Canon in D for his daughter's wedding as a tribute to his late wife and her playing this piece when their daughter was a child. This is a tearjerker, especially with the photo of her mother on top of the piano. 😪
I normally hate commercials, but this one is perfection. You don't need to understand Japanese to understand the message here. Thank you, Tosando Music and HaoStaff Official, for making and sharing this most beautiful and touching commercial. It made me cry.
I can understand the story as well as the language. The song Canon in D by Pachelbel was originally should be played with Violin but can also be played with Piano. The story begins is that the girl is getting married with the boy and her father played Canon in D as a gift and memory of her dead mother who played the same song as well when she was young and before she died. When her mother died, she didn't talked to her father that much and abandoned playing the piano. The father understands her daughter so he tried to learn the song that his wife used to play. It was a gift for his daughter. Canon in D is hard to play in the piano unless you really ant to play it plus it is not really arranged for piano but for violin. Music has meaning and also it gives a letter to a person. Piano is one of the best musical instruments I can describe, I know this because I play the piano as well.
Thanks! You made me understand it.
Frances Dianne Endaya Thank you
Frances Dianne Endaya another long comment to my list that i read xD
Frances Dianne Endaya Thank you. Makes it that much more beautiful.
It's the most beautiful music I heard than all Etudes, Sonatas, Symphonies and Concertos
This ain't even fair...I'm a man, 46 years of karate training, but I remember my mom playing the upright piano, and I weep at the beauty of the grief expressed here.
I don't recall any karate training about not grieving... :')

One of the best commercial I've ever seen my life. I didn't understood a single word, but this proves that words aren't needed to tell a beautiful story.
Thanks!
geraq Im event not Japenese but I almost undersood more than the half of what they saying :p
My point exactly, that language goes beyond words.

lol the ad literally says "music goes beyond words" at the end.
I've been watching this every so often for the past two or three years. I have no understanding of the Japanese language, but I understand pain, suffering and forgiveness. I understand loss, and how it can leave you feeling so isolated and alone. And I understand the power of music to move us through the heartache. Gives us an outlet for it and builds a bridge between people who so need to connect. I am so grateful that a Japanese music company made such a commercial.
I don't speak Japanese but I do speak human.
I know what happened here.
Remember, darling. Your father loves you and he always will no matter what happens or what is said.
Incredibly moving. Somehow this is kind, gentle and yet savagely heartbreaking all at the same time....
beautifully worded

Now that is a commercial you do NOT want to miss for a bathroom break.
Father is showing his love with music, and the daughter finally understand his father love her so much. And why my eyes are wet?
I also play just one song for only one person. Since the day she's gone away, I tried to learn to play the song she loves. I play it every year on the day she's gone I'm so moved by this commercial.
Wow this moved me to tears. I do not speak Japanese, but I understood the pain of both the father and the daughter through the loss of his wife and her mother, and the affect it had on their relationship. this classical tune let her on her wedding day know that her dad has always loved her but never had the ability to tell her whilst she was growing up motherless . Music is so powerful, it can speak louder than words and can be understood globally no matter what your mother tongue is.
Bravo, to whomever produced this commercial. Powerful.
Well said
she said at the beginning "stop, stop it" but i lost it and started to cry when she said "you can do it, you can do it father!"
Even though canon in d is approximately 350 years old, it is still a heart breaking and unforgettable piece

'nice and pleasant' may sound too simple but that's how i feel when i listen to Canon in D by Pachelbel
The picture of the wife on the piano at the end got me.
What an amazing and moving commercial; magnificent achievement in such short time. Most movies in an hour and a half can't come near. Bravo.
I don't speak a word of Japanese...but the translation wasn't needed...obviously it was a father who lost his wife and a distance grew between him and his daughter. So he learned the song his wife would often play on the piano when his daughter was younger so he could play it at her wedding.
That was a beautiful, moving commercial.
Thanks ! You dare to describe the sad Obvious story.

Is Not Cry
Canon is one of my favourite pieces and this video just gave it a whole new depth, beautiful and meaningful.
i love commercials that is worth to be watched because in everytime you see this kind of commercial has a lesson about life and it makes you cry for a good reason. But some other commercials are just a waste of time doing stupidly unfunny commercials. I salute to people out there who experienced this emotional and hardworking tragedy to there life :)
Human emotion is beyond the language barrier. I couldn't stop crying for the father. Meaningful commercial!
it was a way to bring her mother to the wedding, a song she used to play when bride was a kid,
You don't need to understand a single word of Japanese to understand this video.
+Victoria C (Life of Vi) Exactly... the spoken dialogue is completely extraneous.
music = universal language :)
Victoria C yup I understand and I don’t even know japanese
Yes, so true.
well.. yes . you dont have to understand spoken words in this video, or maybe.. yes you have to. you must!
there may be videos where you must understand everything, listen everything.. you can not let miss any.. because all moments are as a jewel, and you dont want to miss any of them. so i can understand who wants to understand those few words TOO! because with those words is complete the expirience. and nothing can be acceptable to miss something of the whole!
OMG, dude. My eyes started watering at 1 minute, 15 seconds. I couldn't finish it in one sitting.
I was crying because I saw how it was acted, and the music/story broke my heart. Wow. Thanks.
If I were a guest at this wedding, might have been crying even more than now
ive seen this so many times and i still cry every time
Everytime I watch this. Someone cuts onions beside me. Always picks a time when I watch stuff like this.
I don"t speak Japanese but this made me teary eyed and I'm a man, It's so beautiful a daughter's heart being touched by his love. Wish it had English subtitles
What a brilliant commercial; it did more in minutes what big Hollywood production movies couldn’t ever deliver!
Their timing is much slower and nuanced. Rethink the scene where he pauses before starting playing - by drawing it out, it pulls you in.
When language presents you with the barrier, the music will provide you with understanding....
(here I am, crying my heart out at 3 am in the morning)
I had no idea that the Pachelbel could have such a strong impact on people's lives.
Symbols are like that. Here is another example; If you were married and you wore a wedding ring, could I tell about the quality of your marriage by looking at that ring? Obviously, no. But what would looking at that ring mean to you? You would remember the first time you saw her, the first kiss. Memories of ten thousand things would flood all through you...from looking at a simple piece of metal.
If you've lost someone close to you it's easy to understand 👏👏👏
As a father of two girls, I totally get this. Thank you.
It’s not just what you say to convey love, it’s what you do.
たまに見にくるけど、やっぱ泣くわ
That's one of my favorite musical compositions and the tears were rolling down my cheeks.Gut wrenching commericial. Well done Tosando.
Maybe the best commercial I have ever seen.
This commercial always brings me to tears. The actors, the writers, and everyone involved deserve an award.
I must add that the “daughter” actress sold it for me. She did an incredible job!

Rough translation
Host - Everyone, may I have your attention please. Here we have our bride's father Mr. Yasuhiro with a message to share. Mr. Yasuhiro, please, the moment is yours.
Bridegroom - Dad can play the piano?
[The bride shakes her head]
Bride's thought - stop... this song... why?
- Troublesome, this part is supposed to be more charming than this...
- You used to be unacomplished (expresses how she's surprised and indicates that she blamed the loss of the lady, likely her mom, on him)
- [shocked by the sudden pause] eh?
- [piano continues] stay with it... keep it up... keep it up, dad!
Words on the black background - music is able to surpass words.
Thank you for the translation. It was very helpful.
Music never stops. True parental love is eternal.
From Australia (and South America, too). Superb, elegant, touching, clever. I am an old man who has a constant war with the crassness and stupidity of modern TV advertisement. This video is a total reivindication. The idea, the script, the scene, the cinematography, the acting, the music and the mood. Thanks you all... Japanese culture is so refined, delicate and strong at the same time.
The bride is so pretty, and her tears and sadness are so genuine. I can only imagine how sentimental she would be.
He played this beautifully with his heart ❤️
So moving.
I did not need a translation.
The father learned to play the piano do he could play the favorite piano piece of his late wife at his daughter's wedding.
I cried for happy.
Just lost my father a couple months ago, and the last thing he tried to do is to get closer to us.
Althought I cant understand the words, this message was so clear and strong, it brought me tears.
Condolences to you and your family, Alex. And prayers for your dad. You will sit with him again, one day. "Attackon Titan" and another commentor have posted English translations.

Very powerful expression of the loss they both have suffered. I think only those of us who have lost a parent in our early youth can feel the pain of these two.

I am not a native Japanese speaker but here is the translation:
Receptionist: excuse me everyone, sorry for the interruption, the father of the bride has a message
*claps*
*Father places the picture and sits at the piano*
Groom to the bride: your dad plays the piano?
*bride shakes her head*
Bride: stop it.. please stop... that tune.. why?
Bride: you suck.. (ofcourse she said that playfully)
Bride: you're supposed to play it gently
*Bride cries*
- Piano suddenly stops- short moment of silent
Bride: keep going, do your best, do your best, dad...
Finibilis Existentiam sorry what do u mean? belong or possession? in what sense
Finibilis Existentiam In sum you are saying that she should not be ashamed of her dad because she said he sucked etc.
I don't think she was slightly ashamed or embarrassed of her dad. And chances are she probably hugged him after the whole thing. I don't know what is like at where you are from, but most asian countries are very family orientated. They really love their family. I guess she was saying those things playfully for one, it also shows how close they are. Secondly, probably because she wants to make something sad cheerful, it's the same idea as trying to make a scary movie funny. In any case there is no doubt that if she was really embarrassed of her dad, she wouldnt even let him on the piano in the first place, or simply walk out.
I dont know about you but I prefer black and white weddings because it's clean and simple. That's one of the main reasons why they chose those two colours for funerals, it's pure.
*"This commercial storyline can't sell to intelligent species, not up to their thoughtful standard."* - your quote
I must admit, it's not the best nor most touching commercial out there. In any case I think you are being slightly too harsh on them haha. It is like you said, a cultural thing. In a few countries, the sign of playfulness signifies how strong a relationship is. And you can tell by her voice she didnt mean it disrespectfully.
+Peter Jones she didn't say suck all she was saying was "yamete" which means stop.
Jv Valdez 1:35 - 下手糞 hetakuso - to be poor at something, I.e. sucking.
+Finibilis Existentiam The reason why she was thinking "stop" and "you suck" is because that piece reminds her of her dead mother. It obviously hurts and she doesn't want to hear it at first; until the memories start turning a little better and she genuinely starts wishing for him to succeed.
I don't speak any Japanese...and I STILL shed a tear.
The beauty of music can make you laugh, dance, sing, and yes, at times, cry. The music is wonderful, the acting heartfelt, the sentiment. . . is there a dry eye in the house?
