    Great job!!!! As a live sound technician, I know there is an even more budget way of doing this! I'll be using JBL Control 1 passive speakers, they're apparently downsized NS-10 made for broadcast monitoring and an insane value, coupled with a 4ohm 100 watts 6.1 distribution amplifier and a powered sub. I'll bypass the distribution amplifier input and connect the signal directly to each speaker, using d'Addario's D-sub splitter made for custom wiring. That way I'll be able to fan out one D sub out from my interface to the front (front stereo, front ceiling and center channel), then use their male to female D-sub to add another snake for the back and back ceiling pairs. Finally, I'll be using one of my line outputs for the sub, probably a 60 watts with a front port since I cannot spoof the neighbors. I'm new on RUclips, but let me know if any of y'all would like to see the process!

      1)can you explain which gears , interfaces, brand model hardware you ll use to connect passiv speaker to your PC ?
      2) If ASIO WDM WASAPI support in realtime mix multichannel to HDMI eARC audio compatible with DTS/Dolby protocol/Format ...we could use AVCR Home cinema ampli . At this time this 2 technology support 3D surround stream for
      -VOD film ( netflix , Disnye+) in HTML5 browser ,
      -play games
      -watch DVD
      BUT no immplementation in audio DAW of a driver for routing track of mix to channels and channels to monitor speaker using one HDMI connector . The issue is that AVCR hdmi input understand only dolby and dts and 3D aura ( all traks using licence compression TRue HD or MeridianLP or not using LPMC ) !!!!
      3) in foobar i can read multichannel flac using hdmi ( motherboad / graphic card) connec tto the HDMI of my AVCR home cinema
      Thank' s

    It’s interesting getting into ATMOS. And it has been quite lucrative after full upgrades. I love seeing people helping to show people a cheap way to start learning and playing with ATMOS. Thanks to people like you the industry is exploding. It’s important to have low end options since the typical price of setting up an ATMOS studio in line with Dolby spec, begins at around $75K with typical gear, monitoring of the required full range speakers, correction, a Dolby Mastering computer, just to name a few.
    According to the latest stories and surveys you are right. About 50% of the major pro studios are in the process of moving to ATMOS. Similarly, according to the latest industry-wide Billboard industry survey, ATMOS and related studio installs are up 2,000% from just the prior year, Many of the smaller studios start at $25-50K. But they soon learn they need to add full range monitors, room correction, a separate mastering computer, MADI, Dante and a lot more. That’s why the current average of the surveys is closer to $100K. But, you definitely don’t need that to get started, just to be capable of getting certified and consistently getting the better paying projects. A bit of a barrier for most smaller studios where $20K is hard. But you are right on. Get into it comfortably, learn, play, get some small projects under your belt first. But please try to find a way to do real translation checks. Too many unchecked ATMOS mixes done in budget environments are giving ATMOS a bad name. Also, there is a lot of misinfo out there.
    Some of the larger ATMOS studios even play down the move. I hear some give bad advice like low-end monitors, or that you don’t ever need to spend more than maybe $20-30K. Keeps down their competition i’m sure. But like he said if you want to be competitive in a couple years you need to consider the move to ATMOS sooner rather than later. Within 9 months of becoming a Dolby certified studio, our revenues had increased by almost 45%.
    It took just under a year to fully amortize our $115K ATMOS upgrades. Much quicker than the ride up from stereo masters. But it didn’t happen until we upgraded and got certified in ATMOS.

      The guy I referenced in the video is a good friend. His studio is certified, so I do have an option to reference check any project I do here.
      Everything else you mentioned is spot on. I created this video in hopes to push people to “go for it”. Here’s a low cost option to get started, learn and upgrade as you go. I’ve already made some modifications to my space since this video and the plan is to get to a point where I’m certified with Dolby. of course that’s going to take a while since, but I’m up for the challenge.
      Thanks for watching and I truly appreciate the feedback, and the info you dropped!

I was getting a bit worried with staying relevant in the music scene since this transition was announced on top of not having the $45,000 plus available to invest into such a rig. I was wondering if a "budget" option would be enough to enter the Atmos game, or at the very least get my feet wet and learn without breaking the bank and from the sounds of it, it can be done. Love your setup! I've done a similar thing with the JBL LSR series monitors. 8" for 5.1, then 6" for the two side surrounds, then 5" for the height speakers. Sourced them all off of KSL (a sort of Utah-based craigslist) for less than half of MSRP. Current challenge is figuring out how to get a bunch of long, reliable cable for cheap.
    I have my second focusrite coming in the mail in a few days - planning to link to the first through ADAT. Are you able to turn up and down your whole system on one knob? From what I can tell, with the Clarett 8PrePlus, the monitor knob only controls the physical outputs- not the ADAT, so I'll have to use the second Clarett to adjust the volume of the height speakers. I think.
    My other thought is should I set up my TV way too high all the way at the ceiling line (I'm a film composer), or should I set it up at a comfortable height but have my center channel be offset from the plane of the rest of the 7.1 Bed...
    So many unique decisions for every room and setup.

    You should open the Audio Midi setup in your utilities folder and on the right and choose your aggregate device then at the bottom you will see a button called configure speakers and now you can setup dolby atmos natively without loopback and saving the CPU overhead of Loopback and lowering latency.

    • @MrPreeZee
      @MrPreeZee  Год назад +3

      time delay is bullshit for home cinemas. audiophiles have no clue what they are talking about 98% of the time. delays are only important for stage technicians if you have a really big venue. just look up how fast sound travels and then use some common sense.. dont watch youtube vids about sound delay. then you end up buying 1000€ cables after your done.. lol..

    @stevenswall Год назад +2

    That's a great, inexpensive setup. I think surround sound makes a huge difference and I enjoy listening to well produced music in surround sound.
    One step up from this some may be interested in might be Kali since their IN series can be used as a center channel and they have some basic placement correction DSP built in. The IN-5c in particular might be easier to mount since it has a bracket on the back that can mount with a ton of standardized VESA mounts.
    A step up from that... Would be the Genelec system you mention. I'm currently building a Genelec system out with all coaxial monitors. Will eventually cost me $22k for the speakers and a sub for a 6.1.2 system, not to mention another 4-5k for a digital surround sound processor once I get rid of this Dolby DP564 decoder.
    It has been my dream since my early teens to have surround sound music after hearing binaural recordings and I can finally do so with speakers. Now I just hope Dolby improves to render spatial audio on headphones that sounds closer to binaural. Not a fan of the AirPods Pro with spatial audio.
