Jesus... an absolutely gold counter to a knee cut pass dropped in right at the end. Thank you professor, cannot wait to get back to the mats post pandemic
Tried this today and it worked perfectly!!!!! It was shocking how effectively and efficiently it worked. No effort at all. True definition of Jiu Jitsu and technique over strength
Love this escape! I caught it from Marcelo Garcia several months ago and nail this on A LOT of people, every rank and size. It seems best before they can settle into side control, beware of your training partners catching on and go to knee on belly or north south. It has to happen before.
Professor Roy Dean’s content is the best in the world. The techniques he presents are truly useful to a much smaller person when faced with a larger opponent. There are a lot of techniques out there only useful when you are at least equal in size
Techniques like these are my favorite because they apply well to the most dangerous self-defense situations. You get tackled down by one guy, and he's got a buddy itching to kick your head off while you are held down. Every technique you know to get the first guy off of you IMMEDIATELY (so you can get up) might save you a stay in the hospital (or save your life; a kick to the head/neck while prone can be fatal). I feel this is where wrestling and Jui Jitsu shine -- submissions are nice, but they aren't what keep you alive.
Thank you very much I'm a purple belt from the Midwest and I weigh only 155 My other purple belt that I train with he weighs about 240 this will definitely help me when he puts that hip weight in Thank you professor
I already saw this escapeat my gracie dojo never quite understood the way you put it, well i didn't saw it explained by coaches for the moment too they surely knew it but thanks a lot really well explained !
I learned the knee-to-elbow pass defense shown at the end but I don't remember the far arm blocking part, which I intend to use on the mat next session. Professor Dean is my grandteacher, although I have only met him on Zoom when our academy had a Zoom event with him during the height of COVID. I hope to remedy that someday.
I've never seen this before. I usually try to pass that stiff arm over my head on other side and sit up. But this is so slick! And that knee cut variation blew my mind.
Looks so easy, but I'm gonna forget it as soon as I'm in this position. I will remember right after I've tapped..lol. So smooth, so slick though. Thank you.
I want to see this in a love rolling session. These seem to be work when you are practicing but the presentation of the technique has to be carefully timed. Maybe I'm just too new at bjj but I have not been able to employ these techniques.
Interesting, most people that do this to me are bigger and basically do a sit up with their upper body strength to shove me off. Smaller inexperienced people also tend to not get me with this. However, you’re suggesting it’s not a strength move if you can shovel you or hips under. Will definitely give it a shot
Sorry, I have a question: sidemont? This position would not be a “sidecontrol”? How does someone get to 100kg/sidecontrol monted? Being mounted is defined when standing on the opponent with both knees dominating the hips. Finally, Marcelo Garcia has this position on RUclips for about 15 years.
I love how simple this looks. Can't wait to forget it when I'm being smashed (But really, thank you)
🤣🤣🤣
I can relate😂
So true ahahha
My second most used line. Right after, "Damn, I can't remember what I forgot" while pinned under any variation of control.
LMAO So true
I was rolling with one of my students yesterday and he tried this on me. I’m like, bro, you’ve been watching Roy Dean videos!
😁😁
Si did you pass at the end?!? 😂
Tried this in my gym it works !!!!
Jesus... an absolutely gold counter to a knee cut pass dropped in right at the end. Thank you professor, cannot wait to get back to the mats post pandemic
I been doing a deep dive of side mount escapes so this comes at a great time thanks for quality content
Lol Ironically me tooooo! 🤣😉🤙🏽
I been doing dive into side mounts escapes too, unintentionally xD
Roy Dean puts the “gentle” in jiu jitsu!
Tried this today and it worked perfectly!!!!! It was shocking how effectively and efficiently it worked. No effort at all. True definition of Jiu Jitsu and technique over strength
Watched this vid this morning, and hit it effortlessly twice tonight against my own belt level, thanks very much for the great content.

Yes. That is other chaining options for position for the top guy. Well done in point it out the flow. Ty

I've hit this several times since watching. It's flawless and the cue to get them to switch hips works every time
two things i have to mention.
one: that wallart is awesome.
two: the technique is too.

This sweep is so effortless!
You are awesome Professor Dean! Thanks
Great explanation of a powerful and subtle technique.
Can we just talk about how sick that dojo is!? What a vibe!
I can’t get enough of Roy Dean’s teaching.
Love this. Thank you. I am going to review and practice at my next opportunity
Roy Dean is an excellent instructor!!!
My new favorite channel 🙏🏻
Thank you very much I'm a purple belt from the Midwest and I weigh only 155 My other purple belt that I train with he weighs about 240 this will definitely help me when he puts that hip weight in Thank you professor
Looking forward to practicing this tomorrow!
This is gold. Was going over stiff arm in class yesterday. This fits right in. I’ll be trying this tonight. Love it

Your ju jitsu is just beautiful..: for real so smooth - would love to visit your gym if I’m ever in the states! OSS
More like this please professor!
Excellent. I love techniques like this one.
Great instruction ! Thanks !!
Been doing this for awhile took a while to master properly by far my fave side escape

This was awesome, very well explained too! Thank you for sharing, professor! ~Chris TFC Broken Arrow
so awesome! looks very smooth!
Looks so easy, but I'm gonna forget it as soon as I'm in this position. I will remember right after I've tapped..lol. So smooth, so slick though. Thank you.
Too good sir respect for you from India
As a white belt I had this done to me more times than I can count.
Weird to see this when I'm inexplicably visiting TN
I love combining this with Marcelo Garcías elbow push if they are able to pass their elbow to the other side.
Very useful thanks for posting
For a whitebelt its really mind blowing❗
I've hit this with unassuming opps just pushing off like a Turkish get up. Love the further details Coach
Very cool and so simple!
As someone that would get smashed by bigger rolling partners in side/transition to scarf, this has helped immensely.
Good techniques sir 😍😍
Excelente sensei !!!! Oss 🇧🇷
very simple and very easy to utilize
Lol so simple yet effective!
Beautiful !
this maked my day!
Mind Blown...
Awesome 👏 move - thanks 🙏

Wow so smoth and nicely
frame
wait for the mistake
pummel the outside leg(hook) in
or
continue to frame and keep the elbows in
This feels like a magic trick when you get it working.
Very cool
Anyone knows the Song name?
Nice!!!
I like it.
Muito bom
I need this
Ultra heavy weight here, can you demo this on some 300+ lbs? Is it still effective at that weight?
Deep.
Have you got a name for this technique Coach
Sick 👌
Looks like the Brainiac symbol on the back of Professor Dean's gi!
Another fantastic escape by professor Chris Meloni from SVU
I thought this was gonna be a home depot commercial or a rocktober sales event at my local gmc dealership lol
How do you avoid waki gatame counter?
SHARP 👌🏽

Thumbs up for the music
How long did it take to get your black belt?

I remember watched a video about the framing part... but not the second elbow and hip twist
👍 nice
