Sabaton - 40 : 1 (Lyrics English & Deutsch)

- Опубликовано: 9 сен 2010
- This song tells the story of the Battle of Wizna between September 7th and 10th 1939 during the German Invasion of Poland at the beginning of the Second World War. The 720 Poles had 42,200 Wehrmacht-soldiers of the XIX Army Corps under General der Panzertruppe Heinz Guderian against them (so the song should actually be called 59:1) but nevertheless delayed the approach of the Wehrmacht seriously.
CAUTION!
I won't tolerate any racist, discriminatory or in any other form inappropriate comments! This song neither glorifies war, nor National Socialism, but should be considered as a historical work.
"No, we don't glorify anything, we just tell stories about things that have happened."

According to Wikipedia, there are 7 battles refered to as ''Polish Thermopylae''. SEVEN.
I think we found out where the Spartans disapeared to all along
As I aid in another comment chain:
The Slavic peoples-like the Poles- are the honeybadgers of human civillization. They,ll dig their claws into the leopard and draw blood until they die. And not one moment before. The Venedians(The fathers of Slavic Europe.) would be incredibly proud to see their decendants have not lost their touch.
that 7 battles is only when we defend ourselves, you could only imagine what happen when we attack :D en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Somosierra
Also we also had a "Filipino Thermopylae" the Battle of Tirad pass

Remember, that during that time Poland was independent country for only 20 years. Many of this soldiers were born and grow up when Poland didn't exist, polish people were discriminated by both Germans and Russians, learning polish history and literature and even speaking polish in schools were forbidden etc. They knew how important freedom is and they were fighting till their last breath, so their families and countrymen didn't have to live again like that.
at least someone out there is a student of history and understands what was happening to the Polish people at the time. You understand the bravery and heroics of the people and the reason why. As a Pole, thank you.
I’ll be honest, I’ve always wondered how Poland could vanish for a century then re-emerge and know what Poland even is or should be. Culturally, I mean.
@@kingofthings7929 The land may have been taken over, but the people didn't just disappear, they were still there: cultivating their culture and traditions, passing on language and history. Attempts at germanization and russification were actively resisted. The country was no more, but the nation lived on and strived for recovering their independent country once more.
#Yuna Tuna Remember that Poland was a multi-ethnic state and that non-Poland was treated adversely! Large areas of what was then Poland were populated by non-Poland. In the west 1.1 bill. Germans, East 3.7 bill. Ukrainians and 11, Bill. Belarusians. Only 69% were Poles. Poland did not abide by international treaties (see Westerplatte Danzig). The second Polish republic was not a democracy, but at times a dictatorship. Poland was involved in conflicts over territories and ethnic minorities with almost every neighboring country. Between 1919 and 1921 there were disputes with Germany, especially over the possession of Upper Silesia.
@@lokijotunn8260 I am not quite sure what point you are trying to convey in relation to the first comment. Lots of out of context statments. Wonky english doesn't help with that.

The actual strength of each army was 42200 Germans vs ~720 Poles, which comes out to a power ratio of about 60:1, and thats only counting infantry. The Germans also had around 350 tanks, around 650 mortars and howitzers, and aerial support. The Poles had about 6 76 mm guns, 42 MGs, and 2 antitank rifles. The Germans suffered slightly higher casualties and eventually won, but the fact that they didnt steamroll the Poles immediately is a testament to the Polish bravery and skill.
There's also said that the Polish troops managed to destroy 10 tanks, and a heavy underestimate of 1000 German troops.
/r/theydidthemath
WW2 was a group effort and the Poles not only played their part, they excelled at it.
it's also a testament to what fortifications could still do back then. the polish forts were still too far apart because they had only started building them relatively recently, but where there were forts, the germans suffered. it was the same 2 years later in russia: where the molotov line and stalin line were complete, the germans incurred high losses.
59:1 just doesn't have a good ring to it.
say what ever you want about the Polish, but you cannot deny the Polish fighting spirit is unbreakable, you Polish can be proud of yourselves for the bravery!

There is a commonly spread myth that states that the Polish air force was destroyed on the ground during the 1939 invasion. That myth is the product of Nazi propaganda.
What actually happened was that the Polish air force, despite having technically inferior planes, shot down a quarter of the Luftwaffe in 1939. Many pilots then escaped to England, where they formed 16 Polish fighter squadrons, majorly contributing to defeat the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain.
Exactly. If the Polish air force was destroyed (and therefore the pilots presumably killed or captured) then where the hell did No. 303 come from.
Good spot gent's :P
The Polish Air Force, though numerically inferior, had been moved from air bases to small camouflaged airfields shortly before the war. Only some trainers and auxiliary aircraft were destroyed on the ground. The Polish Air Force, significantly outnumbered and with its fighters outmatched by more advanced German fighters, remained active up to the second week of the campaign, inflicting significant damage on the Luftwaffe.
The 303'rd division had one of the highest kill counts of the Battle of Britain. They were the best pilots in the force. After the war. Churchill excluded Poland from the victory parade in fear of Stalin.
See: Aces In Exile.

Polish troops had amazing performance during World War II, but they lost because they were greatly outnumbered. Poland really deserves more recognition in history. Infact, throughout most of history, Poland has had very good performance.
***** Yes, that too. Many of the good pilots were Polish. So technically the UK owes Poland for saving their butts in the Battle of Britain. But no, because everything thinks Poland is all shitty. I'm not even Polish lmao.
+Mac Lazer .. well dont forget battle of Vienna 1683 (all Turks remember till this very day, and name of Sobieski is well known there) , battle of Kircholm 1605 (where 3600 Polish troops wiped out nearly 11000 Swedish troops) etc etc ...
+SpringTrap and Fancy RED Scout to be fair, the Poles made very aggressive pilots, being an aggressive pilot doesn't equate to being good in fact it generally made them worse. That being said they were fucking hardcore, one of my favorite stories was a Polish pilot trying to chop off a ME109's tail with his prop because he had run out of ammo.
***** Even if that were the case, than it wouldn't effect anything I said
+Mac Lazer Personally, they were not that greatly out numbered. They were just out maneuvered, and kind of out gunned. Their airforce was obsolete, and they didn't have enough artillery or anti tank guns to really stop the Panzers. The Russians jumped in after the Battle was pretty much already won by the Germans. The Germans invaded with a 4 Prongs assault, so it was next to impossible to make a static defense. In all respects the Poles had the Guts, they defeated the Russians in 1918-1920, Germany wasn't that big when compared. How could they lose they thought with France/Britain on their side? In fact even Stalin was surprised. Britain and France were also surprised at the speed of the German Victory. Poland also showed how green the German Army was as well, they learned from their mistakes in Poland before marching into France. Poles did more punishment/damage to the Germans than the Battle of France, and the early months of Operation Barbarossa at the embarrassment of the British/French and Russians.

“Always remember a fallen soldier. Always remember fathers and sons at war.” Sabaton always comes up with the most impactful lyrics. While the Polish were ultimately defeated, their soldiers deserve the utmost respect. They were really outnumbered about 60:1, but still they stood and fought. They knew they would ultimately die or be crushed, but they did this so that others may live. Very noble and honorable. I salute these men for their courage and bravery.
This also happened in the korean war when 1,000 Philippines fought against 40,000 Chinese and North Korean forces.
These men had the Spartan Mentality. The willingness to fight so that people may escape, even if it means certain death. This mentality is taught to be broken during the US Military basic Training, but it never is. Those who have it, usually make it through and become decorated soldiers. Those who don't can make but will ride out their service without standing out.

Not only at Wizna was such a large numerical advantage to the disadvantage of Poles. The Westerplatte defense lasted for 7 days. With a numerical advantage of around 18: 1. The Poles defended their position until they ran out of ammunition.
Poles in the Second World War fought against Nazi Germany in Poland, Norway, France, England, Libya, Italy and the USSR. They took part in each group of troops (on the sea, in the air and on land). The Poles deciphered the Enigma before the war and handed over the complete machine to the British, which facilitated the decoding of the German war machine and significantly contributed to shortening the war and reducing the number of victims. Poles informed the world about the murders of Poles and Jews in Auschwitz - Birkenau. The Poles gave the Allies plans V1 and V2. The Poles had the strongest resistance movement across Europe, forcing a large part of the German army to stay in these areas, facilitating the fight against the Allies.
In the USSR, the most intelligent general later Marshal of the USSR and Polish Konstanty Rokossowski (who commanded the defense of Moscow, closed Paulus' army at Stalingrad and destroyed it, won the battle at Kursk and completely dealt with the Germans in the capital operation Bagration, where the Germans suffered the biggest defeat during the whole of World War II.

I mentioned to my Social Studies teacher something that the Polish did well in WWII. He responded with "Yeah, because the Polish are known for doing well in WWII." I got really upset by this and explained that Poland is the reason the Allies won WWII.
For example, Poland stopped Germany from developing nuclear weapons by storming a factory that was making them and sending the parts to the Allies.
Second, the Battle of Britain was very important in the War and the Polish had the highly elite fighters that were responsible for taking out many of the German planes.
Third, even if Poland ultimately was taken over, they held out for about a month while being attacked by Germany and the Soviet Union. France, on the other hand, was much more technologically advanced, had impressive defenses on their borders, and was defending against only Germany while getting help from their allies.
Therefore, I believe that Poland should be more than just a footnote in the history books and should be seen as one of the major reasons the Allies won WWII.
In my opinion Poland is the strongest nation in Europe
Even though you've made a good point at the start, the Battle of Britain was won by not only POlish fighters, but Canadian, Czechslovakian, and British pilots. Not to mention, the Germans couldn't make a good move on the UK if they wanted to, even if they landed. The Royal Navy and RAF would've crippled German operations in England, and the British fight as hard as the Polish when it comes to home soil. And- what was the point of including the third part? I know Poland was resistant, but that has nearly nothing to do with the question at hand. Poland was one of the reasons why the Allies won WWII, but not a major one. The Americans and Soviets did way more than the Polish, and you could even argue Free France did more as well, as they weakened the German war machine for the June 6th 1944 invasion of Normandy.
Right because Poland did D-Day, won the battle of Stalingrad, and dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And they can into space, too. Stupid-ass comment.
Not to mention Poland is the only Allied nation that lost the war by losing territory and becoming a subject to the Soviets. How the fuck does a major Allied nation manage that?
The Germans would never have made nukes as Hitler saw it as Jewish science and didn't see much interest into it. Either way, the V2 rockets were made and their destruction told.
Secondly, it wasn't just poles fighting in the Battle of Britain. They were a very VERY small minority of those fighting over British airspace.
Thirdly, France fell due to the general incompetence of its high command. The ignorance that an armoured force could move through the Ardennes cost them dearly. The soldiers themselves fought bravely.
According to wikipedia, it was one Polish soldier to 60 Germans and 1 Luftwaffe aircraft, so it was 61 to 1
This shit is poetic and beautiful if you read up on the history behind the song. The courage of those men fighting against insurmountable odds and staring death in the face all to protect their home land that they loved. I admire that kind of determination and discipline.
4 years late to say you can’t just call something poetic because it talks about some heroism if it’s not fucking poetic

I just realized Germany fell the same way Poland did.
Poland was barely holding up on the German front, and they were actually winning for a bit but they had limited manpower. In contrast, Germany could afford to keep throwing men at them. Then behind them the soviets opened up a second front, that had even more manpower than Germany, causing them all to have to retreat to the capital and prepare for a siege.
Germany was barely holding up on the soviet front, and they were actually winning for a bit but they had limited manpower. In contrast, the USSR could afford to keep throwing men at them. Then behind them the allies opened up a second front with D-Day, that had enough manpower to take out the local army there while the main forces were still stuck in Russia, causing them all to have to retreat to the capital and prepare for a siege.
At both sieges, the defenders lost and the attackers won.

Well they did.
Russia: "We didn't want Kyiv anyway, that was just a feint, the true offensive is in Kharkiv, your eastern army is about to be surrounded and destroyed"
Also Russia as of 05-05-2020: "We didn't want Kharkiv anyway, that was just a feint, the true offensive is in Kherson, your southern army is about to be surrounded and destroyed"
Poland is a great country! Greetings from Finland!
If I'm ever backed against a wall facing impossible odds. I want a Pole by my side.
Always remember
Fathers and sons at war
Always remember
A fallen soldier
Always remember
Buried in history
Message from the German Reich:
*Declare war on US (Poland)*
Message from Italy:
*Faction invite: Pact of Rome*
Italy is gathering the cattolics
Decline it
May I just say, any time I'm struggling in a video game I'll turn in this song and I'll win. It's never let me down!
Benjámin Orbán Funnily enough, in Dark Souls this song always motivates me to try again, even if it seems bleak.
m8 i completed medal of honor first try while listening 2 sabaton
then i went back without sabaton and got stuck on the second mission....

*desperatly starts searching through family history to find any polish traces*
I am African and a quarter Arab. I am from Somalia so I kinda hope I am not part Italian.
@@crylec6534 Good for you mate
Or just any central european country. Switzerland was actually so good they were pretty much the equivalent of medieval nukes. If you had them, you won instantly and fighting you is useless and you should just give up
80 years since WW2 - GLORY TO POLISH HEROES!
Love Poland from Serbia!
Greetings to poland! Serbia
Greetings to Serbia! Love,
Poland
Gosia P I'm not gonna assume what Nikola belives, but if Russia were to invade Poland, most of serbians would go "oh my gawd, we gotz to help our russian brotherz!"... so yeah.
But I do respect Polish people along with Germans. Both peoples went though so much crap throught history and still managed to get out strong and proud.
TheLordboki May I ask why all countries mentioned are Slavic,Russian ambitions has nothing to do with poland,
Serbia is in a state that has kosovo trying to become independente and no Montenegro, and also they are in fire pot that is trying to be sealed by the major powers.
guilherme77088 I'm fully aware of the situation in the balkans, because I live here. The point was that Serbians consider the Russians their brothers, which is pretty stupid.... ohh god, why am I even bothering.
Just like Poland and Croatia are brothers
These Poles deserves Hussars wings in the heaven, long life to Poland and their brave mans!
Greetings from Brazil 👏
Gutes video
ich finde es toll das du den Historischen Hintergrund der Lieder in der beschreibung zusammenfasst
salute to poland from czech republic
Polacy to są bohaterzy nikt nie ma tak kiego wojska o takich moralch
i honestly thought he said spirit astartes, death and glory
At first, I thought he said "Spin little Spartans"
Alexandros Brightraven "spin little Spartans, breath, or Cory!"
Thanks for the reupload :) Damn well love you and this song
Bloody hell, that last part though, with Joakim screaming no and combined with the Instrumentals plus the fading in of the background picture gave me Godly Chills...great editing Piscator!
I'm part Polish, and extremely proud of my Heritage.
The country fell before the guard did! Cadia- I mean POLAND STILL STANDS
-FOR THE EMPEROR-
FOR POLAND
It's the 80th anniversary of the Second World War, 70 million fell in this great conflict, remember the fallen and celebrate their lives and accomplishments
Sabaton makes me tear up at times. Not out of sadness but pure, unbridled awesome.
i wish People would stop talking trash about People that died Ages ago on every sabaton Video and instead just listen to the Music
discussing history is one Thing, discussing who of the many Million dead soldiers were the most awesome is another
Infernalicon lets just agree war is absolute hell and everyone in war suffers
It'd take more than two of the world's greatest military dictatorships to destroy Poland.
Always remember a fallen soldier. Always remember father's and sons at war.
It uh... it’s taken less before to be honest
Sweden did it in the great northern war (before peace was signed)
Russia shit on them quite a fair bit
Then later on taking Prussia austria and russia they were dismantled bit by bit, and then beaten down when they rose up every time.
I mean... they’ve been beaten.
The winged hussars must be proud of their descendants
This is *BLOODY BRILLIANT*!
JonathanToolonie Lol i get the pun.
If anyone is curious,Captain Raginis held his promise,he killed himself with grenade in bunker after capitulation

@Sunlightshadow Because Germans provoked it with germanisation. When did Poles murder Germans before WW2? Because I cannot find that
B.J. listens this tune, and cries.
Keen listens, and feels proud of his heritage.
The Slayer hears, and drops MANLY TEARS that could burn suns.
@arnold jayeola B.J. Blazkowicz, Commander Keen and the Doom Slayer, the id Software family. And all of them polish.
The song is about one certain battle, in this battle polish soldiers have been "second to none" and had the "spirit of Spartans". Most of them fought to death as they commander has sworn. Pay deference to them as they deserved. Without any questions Germany had great soldiers too (listen to Ghost Division - another of my favorite Sabaton songs). But that is another story.
Without any questions Germany had great killers
Poland may not into space. But can into hero.
What
Soldier: Captain! Their outnumbering us 5 to 1!!
Captain: so... it’s a fair fight.
I’m not sorry, this just reminded me of halo
'No army may enter the land that is protected by Polish hand'
BEAUTIFUL PART OF SONG
This song gets me so pumped up
When you're the last one standing in dodgeball
Can relate.
This song should be on Last Stand
and I'm a proud polish girl, listening to this masterpiece.
