    Thank you for being more than just an aquarium fish channel, but an advocate for protecting these marvelous species from over-collecting . Also really love the in situ and habitat shots. Really hoping many more advanced aquarists watch you and make establishing these species in the hobby a goal before habitat destruction and other human activities drive even more biodiversity to extinction. Yes, that’s exactly what I wanted to add as well ! It’s still just a hobby, we should avoid by all means to threaten any species 👍☝🏻

    Goes to show you just how important the Aquarium hobby is for the preservation of all these rare fish. As their habitats get destroyed they will survive in the thousands due to breeding.

    My local fish store just brought in H. eilyos. The FR manager said they would have to retail for 60 cad each to make margin..... I watched them over the course of a few days. They are extremely territorial. The males are killing each other in the 25 gallon tank. Maybe not a great aquarium fish, and best left in the wild.

    Thanks for describing the new tetras. Makes me angry, that they are in danger, because the rainforest is being destroyed.
    I have Hyphessobrycon cf. pulchripinnis "bolivia orange", very happy, because i breed them.
    I want to support every aquarist in the world!
    Habv a nice day - greetings from germany.

    Very nice video although I would not say "New" as all ate known, some for decades, more correct I suggest to titles it "Interesting Tetra" from Mato Grosso and other parts of Brazil. And the still un-named species have been bred for many years and almost all are being exported fro over one decade.

    Sorry, I’m confused. You mentioned this was a list of new fish, and it starts with the wadai tetra which you acknowledge has been in the hobby for years. So it’s not a list of new fish?

    Could you please lead with the generic name before the scientific (if possible.) It is more common to talk with LFS and online stores using the generic common names. Great video though, many thanks.

    • @belowwater
      @belowwater  3 года назад +2

      Sorry that is not possible, fish "new" in the hobby don't have generic names. If your LFS does not know the scientific names of the fish it is a bad sign. The only fish here that have a generic name are the blueberry tetra (H.wadai) and the lapis tetra (H.cyanotaenia) besides the ones that don't have scientific names yet (blue devil and red cherry).

    Hyphessobrycon weitzmannorum and Eliyos Tetra should have a massive breeding project so we can save the species in the future

      yes, for sure, but they prefer cooler water, not ideal for most community aquariums

    Oliver, what kind of aquatic plants you were able to find in those biotopes?

    • @belowwater
      @belowwater  2 года назад

      there is quite a lot, but hard to tell what species they are, a lot of riparian plants as well as Eriocaulon and Isoetes etc in those habitats, you can not always ID them.

    Very informative video. What is the water temperature range for Hyphessobrycon eilyos?
    You mention "cooler" water, I imagine due to high altitude, very little info available. Thank you.

    • @belowwater
      @belowwater  3 года назад

      I try to keep them under 25C, but in Canada that is near impossible now in the summer month they have (daytime) temperatures of closer to 30C at times. For most of the year they are at 22-24C (room temperature in my fish house).

    Hyphessobrycon red cherry .
    let's talk about:
    Exactly which river in Brazil does it come from? Because there are various theories

    • @belowwater
      @belowwater  Год назад

      not sure, the fish in the hobby all come from Brazilian breeders - many of the new tetras come from the Rio Rio Tapajos basin, in the upper tributaries of the Juruena, Tapajos and Teles Pires.
