Been all round the world. Yet my happiest memories on holiday were in Margate with my family in the 60s. You can have your Walt Disney World and Vegas strip. Nothing comes close to that walk down the hill into Dreamland. A Magical Kingdom beyond words. Thanks for sharing this fantastic film!

That double ferris wheel is a ride I've never forgotten. You could be going up like a rocket or dropping like a stone and everything in between.

Loved watching this, and have to say the added music really gives it a real fun fair feel about it .. (I tried watching on silent, as it would have been shot, and it just wasn't the same)..
I didn't go until the 70s, when the scenic railway had much longer carriages rather than what looked like just 4 seater individual cars... thanks for the upload, liked and subscribed!!

Its a thumbs up from me, you even got a shot of some contemporary coaches to add to the flavour. Good old 8mm.

Lovely to see this. My late father rose to become Managing Director of Dreamland and the Lido, having started in the cashiers office after the war. His name was Doug Harrison. I have come home to the town of my birth, but it's not what it was in these golden days. His ashes must be spinning in their urn.

I recognised the lady who ran the ducks, a high point for me in 1960. Nice camera work!

Exactly as I remembered it. Yes that ride was called the rollercoaster and it was nearby to the Scenic Railway . Thank you . Great memories

Being born in the 90's, I think it would of been very interesting to have been able to see this in the 60's. :/

Great clip, thanks for posting. Most of this is Dreamland, Margate, but not the Scenic Railway, not sure where that is.

That first wooden rollercoaster looks like the one that used to be at Rotunda Amusement Park Folkestone, The Runner Way Rollercoaster, I think that's what it was called. I did have ago on it many years ago before they tore it down.

The Audio dub was completely the wrong era. But at least we can watch with the sound down. Great visuals!

I looked up Dreamland Margate on the Roller Coaster Database, and it turns out that they had another wooden coaster called the "Velvet Coaster" (later known simply as the Roller Coaster). It's odd that they would have a sign for the Scenic Railway near that coaster.

Hi Graham, I'm making a personal film about my Grandad and family in the 1960s and my aunty mentions Margate Dreamland - I've been looking for some archive and came across your lovely footage, what's the best way to get in touch to discuss? Thanks

I really enjoyed seeing Margate in the 60's. We've just done a new gopro walk of the whole town for our youtube page, hope you enjoy ours in exchange showing the contrast between then and now. Thank you we've subscribed.

Love these old amusement park home movies. I'm just curious about the rollercoaster at the beginning from 20 seconds onwards is this ride 100% at Margate. I cant find any information about it anywhere else online. It looks like a ride that operated at Ramsgate.

Scenic railway at Dreamland ? Still there and listed.

@@funhappydays The ride at 25 seconds is not Dreamland's scenic railway i believe its a small ride that operated at Sheerness not Margate.

There were two: the Scenic Railway and the Big Dipper (I think it was called) both at Dreamland.

Graham, the opening shot of the Scenic Railway is not from Dreamland Margate, yet you insist it is. Take a look at the History of the park.
