  • An idea conceived by Chandani Perera, Bamboo Crafts in Matale, is her contribution towards battling the plastic menace. She promotes products made from natural bamboo shoots like mugs, ornaments and decorative items as an alternative to similar products made from plastic. In addition, they have expanded their production to cutlery and crockery items.
As an enterprise which was already well established in the year 2019, Chandani pitched and qualified for a financial grant from the Enterprise project funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and Maldives, in order to acquire the machinery, she required for expansion.
Chandani is proud of what she is achieving through her business: supported by her husband, who also helps with the designing and marketing of the products, she has not only established a productive enterprise which contributes greatly to environmental sustainability but also provides employment to many women living in the neighbourhood, along with 2 male workers who assist with the machinery and chopping of bamboo.
