Even though so few of us are around or particularly interested in livestock or any kind of farming, I think a big part of why so many people love your Steve Irwin vibe. You respect and care about the well being of these animals, want people to know what they are really like and how they exist in our world, and want to keep them as pain free as possible- teaching others to take care of the herds around them as well as you take care of the ones around you.

It's good that you allow your son to see what the hoof looks like when it's that graphic, It makes him stronger when he decides if he want's to follow in your foot steps. I grew up with my father in the Fire Dept Rescue Squad, When he was on 24 hour call and my mother was working I had to go with him and his team while I was your son's age, I saw decapitated bodies pulled out from under semi-trucks & purple drowning victims. So when the 24 yr old who bought the house across the street from me put a gun in his mouth I sat with the body with 911 on the phone until emergency services arrived, I see it as 60 yrs of training.

So in tune with the cow. As she went to move you just held your position. Let her do her thing and not do any harm. Knowing when to stop is key, you can always come back.
