  • Damsel Review of Millie Bobby Brown's Dragon Fantasy on Netflix. Normal Fairy tales are about romance and marriage with heroes saving the day. Damsel is a very different story on Netflix, with no damsel in distress messaging. While critics reviews panned the trailer and movie we find out that heroes and chivalry exist for a reason. And Damsel removes all of them. Is Damsel worth watching?

    Damsel Review of Netflix's subversive fairy tale where it's ever so proud that chivalry exists in other stories to save the damsel, but not this one! It's the most obvious movie around where you can predict all the bad guys just by looking at the actors. The sisterhood is strong and literally every man gets wiped out by the end. If you want a character that could take on Rey Skywalker in a fight, you've got one here, where the Damsel can magically do any action required to win. No experience necessary here, but for a movie meant to undermine tropes, it's one long cliche. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

      The most annoying thing about this film is that it’s not as though there isn’t potential in this story and trope subversion. Humanising the villain (the dragon) and communicating with it instead of just killing it because a female character might have a different approach than a man isn’t a terrible idea. Teaming up with it to get revenge at the end? Also, not bad. Her predilection to maps and mazes could have paid off by her charting the dungeon as she explores it. I’d say it’s a waste but this project was doomed from the start with these writers.

      The point I'm trying to make is that in almost all fantasy, dragons are immune or at the very least, very resistant to fire. It's really really dumb to kill a dragon with it's own fire unless you tell the audience in a clever way why the dragons can be hurt by their own fire (magic maybe)

      @@spongerobert So, i'm no fantasy dragon expert lol but I think it depends how the fire is created. Like there are some dragons that have gas come up their throat and then it ignites in their mouth or near it and they're usually not invulnerable to fire. In fact, it's an effective way to kill it. This dragon's fire seemed liquidy and heavy. If it's liquidy it'll stay on longer. It won't just brush off the scales which works if the fire can't penetrate the dragon scales when quickly brushing across it. Heavy liquid at that temp will probably do some damage.

In some fantasy stories it's said that if you were to force it's fire breath back down it's own throat it would explode or like in Reign of Fire they killed the dragon with explosive tipped bolts fired down it's throat.
      The long and short of it is that if it wasn't resistant to it's own breath it would literally hurt itself all the time while doing dragon stuff especially in the case where it uses sticky napalm because it's bound to splash back.

    I’m so tired of the “ rebellious princess doesn’t want to marry for political convenience” trope. In medieval times (and even later through to the 19th century), princes and princesses knew that marrying for political reasons was their primary role. They would have been taught to know and accept that duty as a given from a young age, and refusing to marry who your parents told you could cause strife, wars, and hardships for the people they were supposed to rule.

      We even get to see MBB bouncing and tumbling from rock to boulder to crag before hitting bottom hard without getting so much as a bruise. Whatever plot armor she was wearing, I want for the next comic-con.

Elodie could’ve stopped the cycle of death right then and there, protecting the lives of the kingdom (like the king intended when he went to kill the fire breathing force of destruction), and saved herself and her sister. The dragon chose to take vengeance for the death of her innocent kids by…killing innocent kids, instead of taking the life of the guy actually responsible for their deaths. _It didn’t matter that the princesses she killed weren’t the actual daughters of the king, because even if they were, they were innocent._ Elodie is a complete, sociopathic jerk. There's a fair bit of irony that once she knew the dragon was only after the royal family and was being tricked, the best solution was to try to talk to the dragon. They're essentially on the same side here; she just needs to convince the dragon of it. You know, like a woman. Great time to do that would be when her father was pinned down, because A) the dragon isn't focused on her, B) her father can back up her story, either in words or by the dragon figuring out the relation by smell, and C) it might just save his life. But apparently they think heroism is about how badass you are and not about doing the right thing even when it risks your life?
    Also, rather than burn the whole place, she has the perfect opportunity to use their massive resources to help her people. Get rid of the queen, marry the prince for legitimacy, and start sending supplies. Clearly these people don't have much of a problem with a ruling queen with a figurehead king, and you do have that dragon for anyone who does.
    So yeah, if she were actually clever and brave, she could have made the world better. Instead she just destroys everything.

    • @SwiftNimblefoot
      @SwiftNimblefoot 2 месяца назад +2

      Nah, even though she did NOT know her father betrayed her and knew she was going to be sacrificed, she just lets the Dragon kill him. Yasss, before Hollywood decided she was the next big thing they should have reflected that she became famous for showing little to no emotion.

    I realllllly want to see a movie like this being made with a well written, reasonable female character as the like .... lackey/side kick/maid/whatever who is a voice of reason but is constantly disregarded because every reasonable suggestion isn't "girlboss" enough and then near the end, the girl boss is killed off and the reasonable side character becomes the heroine.

    Heres a question i had while watch this movie.
    Why go through all this trouble finding princesses from other kingdoms and going through multiple weddings in a row when the royal family could pick/kidnap a peasant girl, put her in an fancy outfit, do the blood ritual and then toss her in. Nobodies going to notice three girls going missing every couple decades or however long the sacrifices are needed.

      I've wonder this same question, but it's simple: they won't sacrifice any of their own people. they go after other kingdoms so theirs can still trive.

    The man who threw her in the hole was the hero, so actually the only expectation subverted was the fact the villain won.
