Congratulation. The Stabi R 4Point is a fabulous combination. Having set up dozens of 4Points, let me point out one thing to watch carefully. You’ll find that the tracking force reading you get with a scale is very sensitive to the height of the measuring surface of the scale, so make sure it’s sitting at precisely the same level as the record surface. When the measuring surface is raised higher, the tracking force reading will decrease significantly, resulting in you adding too much downforce. Just a heads up.

Congratulations on your purchase. Two years ago I bought Kuzma Stabi 2 1987(second hand) which is also a unique vintage peice of equipment. Frank Kuzma creates unique peices genarally speaking, be sure that this turntable will last forever. Over the last dacades there are not turntable manifactures they have achieved to create a high value for money turtables like Frank does. In my opinion Frank's turntables are underestimated by the hifi communitty and I really don't know why is that happening. Kuzma cartridge is also an excellent choice

This is absolutely my next TT upgrade. I currently am using a Stabi S with the 4Point9 (which is awesome) and would move the 4Point9 over to the Stabi R.

@@sergiokwitko2418 No, mostly just beautiful...The only thing Feickert designed well is his alignment protractor. So because I never got around to buying the aluminum (ah-loo-min-ummm. NOT: ah-lieu-minyum. Funny how British people can't speak English! 😂) Denneson protractor, made due with the plastic version until I got the Feickert about 5 years ago. I set up turntables for a High-End audio store, amongst other things. So I thought about buying his Adjust+ Pro setup software. But $525USD for a 7" 45rpm record & a digital brownload didn't seem to be fair value to me... 🙄 I bought a digital microscope & a couple of HFNRR test LP's instead, far more relevant & therefore useful as well. All these new mostly German turntables are the epitome of ordinary. You pay more money, they sell you more mass. Except Rega, who don't even do that, so sound the worst of all of them! REAL turntables have finely tuneable suspension systems in them, like Linn Sondek, Michell Gyrodec & Orbe, & Oracle Delphi & the old Alexandria, & the SOTA Sapphire. Or the Mega-priced Continuum, Döemann, & higher end Acoustic Signature models. Meanwhile, back in the real world where money doesn't grow on trees, there's all the wonderful & mostly better & WAAAAAY cheaper vintage tables from Thorens, CJ Walker, STD, B & O, & especially Dual turntables with their superb 4-point suspensions (where it belongs, not in a $6000USD tonearm that costs $1000 an inch to get to the 12" or 14"(?) version... 🙄). There's no engineering in these new ripoff TURDtables. There's spiffy Carriage Clock styling in most of them, unlike the Kuzmas which are ugly slavic blocks that look like painted cement pottery wheels. And mass. Lots of mass. A patio stone costs $5. The Stabi R weights, what? About as much as 4 patio stones? That's $20, & throw in another $10 for a can of Tremclad rust paint that you buy to rejuvenate your old BBQ after a harsh winter! 🙄 If you really want to hear a $100 yard sale Thorens or Dual trounce $15k of big black NOTHING, spend another $20 & get 4 small hand-truck inner tubes & put one under each corner of the patio stone(s). Then inflate them just enough to get them to float the patio stone. A Townsend "Seismic Sink" for 1/50th the price, & just as good if not better! Then get your hands on several pounds of roofing putty (it doesn't dry up over time) & fill in as much of the turntable base as possible, as well as loading the platter up with as much as possible. Now your cheap old $100 loser is just as well or better damped & isolates a zillion times better than some slab-ic TURDtable. And is better engineered, and sounds better! To guild the lily, replace all the old dreadful el-cheapo tonearm lead-out cables with some $3/ft. MIL-SPEC low capacitance (so that you can hear $250 MM cartridges trounce $5000 MC's, AND save another $5000 trying to amplify another 20db that MM's don't need!) silver teflon coaxial cable (RG316B/U is my current fave. All the Audiophoole mindless macrame CRAP sounds like a walk through a carnival house of mirrors while you're high on acid by comparison... 😬).
The Kuzma 4-point is far lousier than the ULM tonearm on a Dual 505 (≈$1000, including a 4-point suspended turntable with the 100x the engineering put into it by FAR smarter & more gifted people than Franc Kuzma. And not to single him out either. Roy Gandy at Rega is a total idiot who doesn't even know how a turntable is supposed to work, Heinz Lichtenneger at Pro-Ject hasn't any clue either, & then there's Transrotor, Feickert, TW Acoustic, every Clearaudio save the ridiculous Statement, & the only reason the $30k+ Acoustic Signature tables are any good is because Michael Fremer pointed out that they sounded lifeless until they sent him a MkII with a floating magnetic-repulsion suspension!). The ULM are is extremely inert, has state of the art bearings, & a 5g effective mass. Not only will it EFFORTLESSLY track the most ridiculously warped records that would send your Kuzma/Shilabe combo airborne even when tracking at 3 grammes (which I'll guess it does already!😆), it produces NO AUDIBLE WOW OR FLUTTER, even when doing it @ 1.5g with a high-compliance MM cartridge!🏌️
There's an awful lot of Hind-End Fraudio frou-frou out there, Guido. Your Stabi is almost nice & very heavy; it's no better nor worse than any other $10k pottery wheels out there today. The reason you found it only sounded very slightly better than your EMT noise-fossil is not that the EMT is particularly great, but that stock, a Kuzma & others like it underperform so badly. Tiny soundstage with no real dimensional presence, especially in terms of depth because low-level details get muddled & lost. "Slow", ponderous presentation with compressed dynamics by comparison to a good suspended design. "Flat" pitch portrayal with gray timbres & an excessive, possibly slightly bloated midbass.
That's the sound I hear from today's Hind-End pottery wheels. I haven't heard your particular model yet, but the Stabi below it & "The Pipe Bomb" in particular sound like 💩 to me. I also noticed that in describing the sound of the Kuzma, your vocabulary was extremely vague & you come across as rather uninformed as a result. You made no attempt to break down & dissect any sonic particulars that would give a viewer even the slightest idea of what your Stabi sounds like. All I heard was "I like it!", & that you feel that turntables with very heavy platters have a special "something" about them. It's called "better damped", btw. 😘

This part of your comment already clearly shows how you like to babble about things and critizing people without even knowing the topic.
For the rest I can only say what I said in the video turntables are not that important. To me there is no sense to speak of the sonics in detail of a TT, ever. I can sense more accuracy and resolution but that is about it. The rest of the chain does the magic. Obviously a 10$ TT would be a problem. So the approach of speaking about REAL turntables seems presumptuous and snobby IMO. I have found that the power supply is the most essential part of a High-end turntable like my Klimax level LP12. Because perfect speed playback mimes the pitch of the music is right on the mark. And I bet your table has that also.

If I have to honest, price was surely the main reason, plus I read several articles and reviews that praised the 9 inch so I made the leap!

That’s quite a bit of money 💰 for a slight difference. For that price I personally would demand a significant difference between what already own & the upgrade. At $8,000.00 to $9,500,00 price was that with the tonearm or without? If not, how much was the tonearm?
I agree! I always try to get used gear or a great price...in any case the tonearm is apart, I wrote the price in the second part of the video, it depends from the cable, the tonearm is 5/6K

What are your thoughts on to what extent the belt-drive alters the sonic signature over the direct-drive EMT and SL1200G?
Good question! (which I should have paused on). At this level, absolutely nothing. And if obviously I can hear a few differences between each model, the tonearm is always different so it is hard to attribute any sonic differences based on traction type. That is also why in my opinion you do need a good turntable but not a fantastic turntable.
I subscribed today after watching this and a few other of your vids because you didn’t bs me with “high end (priced) audio” babble. Price:performance ratio is critical. Is there a real case to be made for a $250,000 turntable? I can’t see it. But there are manufacturers and “reviewers” who will tell you with a straight face that it’s a bargain at that price!

Very nice TT and tonearm! I have two Kuzma 313 tonearms in my TR, and I love them! I’ve compared to several other tonearms (Ikeda, Jelco, Ortofon, Osyris, Grovemaster, Calista), and Kuzma was for me the best one!! Which cartridge are you using?

Great stuff. Have you also considered the Sikora standard? Can also be used with Kuzma tonearms. I am not sure if I should use a standard tonearm or aim for tangential tracking...
I did consider Sicora, they are Polish I think. Great company but a little to big and flashy fpr my taste. I wasn't able to test performance...

Ths was excelent.The question for me is the comparison to the 1200G-is the Technics in that class where it is held back only by the arm?This leaves aside whether the one should go belt drive or not?I'd love a Kuzma E or SME 15 (hell I'd like a Brinkman( but wondering how that KUzma 4 point or a SME IV/V would be on the 1200G?I am thinking that now the 1200G might be not only the most bang for the buck combo (at a Rega 8 rice point) but als an attainable base to put a $5000 arm and $5000 cartridge .But really what you have is one of the nicest decks made.Congratulations
The base will always have its sound character and should not be treated as a "transparent" thing. A 4-point on 1200g will sound like a 4-point on a 1200g, not like a 4-point on a perfect base. Personally, I'd never go in that direction.

Very nice turntable. Guido, can you tell us how the decision came to Stabi R? Did you consider Stabi reference 2 or Stabi M? If I was ever to replace my Michell Gyro, I'd certainly go for some of the higher-end Kuzma tables as well.

The Technics was excellent for being a Direct Drive but the tonearm wasn't very good plus most platters are not done precisely, they wobble. Mine just a little bit. The EMT is better and and Kuzma even more better.

My initial impression was the thing sounded like master tape. Now, nearing break-in, the thing continues to impress with the same impression, just less tight as when it was new. This component has become my reference cartridge. Ciao.
WOW! What a beauty! Did you risk getting a hernia when you lifted it out of the carton? 36 kg is no joke!! Is the arm carbon fibre? It looks like it. What cartridge is fitted. A really high quality moving coil I hope. You didn't mention the price, but I don't want you to divulge it.
Yes, it's very heavy!! Insanely heavy. The arm is aluminium. The cart is soon to be reviewed, it's a truly magical cart! I wrote the price in the video...you missed that part!

It is, especially now that I got things right and added a decoupling board. In all ways. Turntables in all their aspects have all the final goal to make that cartridge get as much out from those grooves as possible and in the correct way. A quality table and arm do amazing things!

A roksan K2 integrated amp, and the marantz 6006Uk,Ed. I have lots of cassettes mostly recorded from the radio back in the 90s, but have struggled to find a decent second hand deck, since regrettably selling a 3 head technics deck about 4 yrs back, forget the model now,, I do love the hifi scene, music and gear, what music you into.

I made example in the video. If my other turntable, the EMT is for example 8, the Kuzma is 9. Just one step above, meaning not much.

Not good having mains connected to turntable can you upgrade it to a 24V AC motor I'm assuming that motor is mains?
I haven't tested them in my system but generally speaking Kuzma is up there, especially with the higher models.
The PSU separation is a little of a mystery to me because more and more high end brands are putting it back inside...strange. The kuzma has a DC motor that should be heavily isolated inside the aluminum block...
@@anadialog sounds strange if it's a DC motor why would you have the mains connected to the unit ?? don't see the logic or the sense in that, does it have a ferrite bead for EMI RF cancellation on the mains cable? that's the thing you got to put a lot of shielding inside the unit and even then and magnetic fields and other interferences can permeate, it means it has to have a transformer what produces noise through vibration don't see the logic. I think this could be upgraded to ideally low torque 24 volt AC motor. The best control system is the Phoenix engineering and The Roadrunner what is a tacho metre what Sota employe. Can be bought separately, made up from a kit
I don't know, but I know that a lot of manufacturers put their DC moter inside. Including Technics...but maybe I am missing the point 🤔
@@anadialog you mean put there transformers in not DC Motors? Genuinely DC Motors are quieter but have more cogging issues.
There's some good DC Motors out there depends which side of the fence you want to sit on. Ideally don't have the motor connected to the table at all is best

Have you ever considered a DS Audio cartridge?
I have. Optical cartrdiges are based on an old technology and now retrieved but the downsides are more than the benefits. There is a lot of hype on these but they have limitations. Maybe I will do a video in the future.
@@anadialog That would be very interesting since the 'old technology' developed in the last few years. Michael Fremer likes it a lot. And Holger Barske uses the smallest one in his reference system. Interested in your opinion.

I just made an example, in any case following that example the Technics would be a notch below the EMT, so a nice 7.
