@@Dyerhea it's why he insists Ryan is lying about what he does unless he brings up pee and poo consumption with the unsuspecting other family. He's always Big Brothering, so why would Ryan not be always Northernlioning, lmao
That's what I kind of like about Dan, he knows how to ask NL questions that gets him to talk about interesting and sometimes personal stuff. It's a different dynamic from the rest of the gang
Tours can also get you places you can't normally go. Went to Norway a few years ago as part of a tour and got to see some stuff I never would have seen if I had just gone there alone, like visiting a small private orchard run by a family that makes some of the best cider I've ever had. There was also a viking cairn nearby that we got to see as well.
He really seems to think it's the most sus profession to be in 😂 And why would he expect NL to have the same kinda conversations IRL that he has on Twitch, otherwise he's apparently lying? I don't have the same kinda convos with IRL acquaintances as I do with coworkers or clients, and I work in boring ass marketing (ACTUALLY, not the Dan variety of marketing) where I don't even get to talk about bodily fluid and excrement consumption.
It's also wild he can't seem to grasp the idea of not acting the same in every situation? I'll have fucked up conversations with my friends but I'm never going to bring that shit up at work.
NL: I don't tell people I'm going on vacation anymore because they shit on my choices of where and what I'm doing Dan: *Immediately* shits on NL for doing touristy things Love these guys
I'm going to need an audit on NL to see whether he actually does take pee and poop comments from chat as a starter for those types of conversations. I feel like he has far too many aberrant thoughts/takes on the subject to not instigate the topic occasionally.
Hawaii is a known tourist destination. Locals help locals thrive with the recommendations (I know this because our taxi recommended the same place Ryan went to)
@ yeah that’s all well and good but I lived there and if you stick your nose around some local areas (and you are a haole) you run risk of poor interactions. Otherwise it’s a wonderful place with wonderful people
i love dan but god he is delusional sometimes. every tourist who thinks they can blend in with the locals and see all the hole in the wall spots is so annoying. you’re not anthony bordain lil bro.
I don't think he was saying he blends in, he was just saying he enjoys going off the beaten path instead of doing the touristy things. That's totally reasonable; I feel the same way. I'd rather stay home than go on a guided tour with a bunch of other loud annoying people asking annoying questions
I personally agree with Dan that my best vacations are the ones where I try to live like a local while on vacation. I spent a couple weeks in Hawaii on vacation with my uncle who works there as a wine distributor. During the day we'd go to explore the island where he had all the insider knowledge. We hiked the Diamondhead and ate poke at the top of the trail. We went surf fishing on a secluded beach and caught a humuhumunukunukuapua'a (which is apparently bad luck lol). We pulled off the side of a random road and he grabbed some snorkeling gear out of the trunk and showed me this reef that you never would have known was even there. We pulled up to the North Shore beach and the Volcom Pipe Pro competition just happened to be going on (also he pointed out Jack Johnson's house and was like "yea I've been to a few parties there." Then at night, we'd either go out to local spots that bought wine from him and get super cheap drinks, have cookouts with his neighbors, or we'd stay in and drink $50+ bottles of wine, smoke a little grass, and watch movies. It was by far the best, most relaxing couple weeks of my life and it kind of permanently changed the way I approach vacations. I know this is kind of a longwinded comment for a Librarian vid but the topic kinda dug up some memories and I needed to take a moment to journal it / reflect on it.
Your uncle is local, so you were able to do “local” stuff. It’s fine to be a tourist, I think it’s more annoying to be the one tourist trying to pretend they’re not a tourist. Yeah, sure, go to restaurants a couple streets away from the main drag, or find some stuff to do that doesn’t pander exclusively to tourists. But don’t pester the locals and act like you’re better than every other tourist - they aren’t actually telling you the real local spots anyway.
It's well known that some Hawaiians on twitter don't want people vacationing, it's also well known that Twitter does not represent hawaii and that the economy of hawaii is very dependent on tourism
@@nahguacmyeah man I'm sure hawaiians love waiting tables for americans for minimum wage (12 dollars an hour) in exchange for their home island being occupied and made less livable by the tourists that outnumber them ten to one
