    Thanks for posting this, a hugely helpful guide. I'm preparing to do the Tamiya 1/32 but want to do the best I can with my limited experience modeling US Navy aircraft. Luftwaffe I've got under control but a Corsair,,,,,, This video will be on the bench beside the model!

      You're welcome Jeffery, I also did this for my 1/32 Corsair builds, which is why I call them paint mules even though I put a lot of effort into them! Need to do a similar video for painting OD Mustangs and other schemes too....enjoy that Corsair build, its literally the best aircraft model kit out there in my opinion! cheers Chris

    I'm building a Malta based Spitfire Vc that flew in from a US carrier in spring '42, so I'm going for a blue overspray of the Mediterranean camo scheme that will be Sea Blue with lots of differential fading and weathering. Your video is a great help Chris.

      Glad its helped Phil - its been worthwhile studying it, one day I'll get to a 1/32 Corsair to do it justice if I can. @@beckersmodels Thanks Chris - wow, impressive! What a collection of 109s. I love his Sunderland. This will be my second build after coming back to the hobby after more than 40 years. Then it was throwing together Airfix kits with tube cement and brushed Humbrol tins. My first this time was the Revell 1/32 Spit IIa and was more of a mule really, testing out all of the techniques I've been looking at on YT. Very heavily weathered too. This build is a 1/72 diorama with the spit in a sangar. I have to say, 1/72 is 'fiddly'!

    Thanks for this. I’m building the brilliant 1/32 Corsair from Tamiya. I decided to use the lighter intermediate blue over light grey. I think your ratios will be a huge help. One question. Doesn’t it also depend on primer color underneath? I like black basing and using various marbling colors underneath the main color. The black basing will probably shift the colors. In your excellent video was your test pieces primed in black? Grey? Or just over the bare plastic?

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  2 года назад +3

      Your're welcome Paul - that Corsair is indeed brilliant. I couldn't help myself while researching for this build and bought myself another one. Absolutely primer colors will shift the temperature of your blues (if not slamming it hard and thick!) and I did use a neutral grey over the styrene sheet. I would also use black basing or even brown basing like on my Mig-31 video - especially for the lighter colours. Hope that helps, Chris

      @@beckersmodels yes big help. I have that MiG 31 in the stash and will use brown basing. I like the clear colors you used on that one. I’ll simply experiment on junk plastic before I put down paint in the Corsair. I’ll reference the video again when I’m at that stage. Again, thanks!

    Fantastic article, well put together and well presented. I have got the Tamiya F4U-1 1/32nd Birdcage which I have just acquired this is going to help all the way. One question I have in regards to the two tone scheme is there a Tamiya acrylic equivalent to the Insignia White FS 37925 MRP 135? The reason I ask is I have a problem with my chest when using lacquer based paint even with ventilation and a mask. Thank you 👍

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  Год назад +2

      Thanks Gaz. Unfortunately there isnt an out of the bottle option for an MRP 135 equivalent in Tamiya, but you could go somewhere close to it by mixing Deck Tan and White, possibly with a hint of yellow (and by hint I mean literally waving the bottle near the mix!).

    I hope you are available to respond my friend. With that, I must say that you have done a superb job with great ingenuity on a model I most hold favorite, of the WWII era. Having expressed that, I will say that I currently have this model on my build bench, and aside from the usual Navy blue I normally see this aircraft painted in, I would Love to know which color combination you used to create the cobalt blue looking blue 35109, which is at the bottom center of paper? I would like to use that color for mine. Also, what color could I mix in to get a purplish blue hue? Please be specific in whatever info you send me, thank you.

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  Год назад +1

      Hi there - I've left the color combinations in the text below the video, for FS 35109 cobalt blue, I used Tamiya paints in this ratio: XF17/8/2 2:3:4 Hope that helps! If you want to make it slightly more purple, add a very very small amount of red.

    • @MusicMinisterJP7
      @MusicMinisterJP7 Год назад

      @@beckersmodels Thank you so very much for your reply. Can I ask, can you tell me how the "2:3:4" ratio works? (I've never worked with airbrushing, my first time). Is it to mix, 2 drops of the 17, 3 of the 8 and 4 of white..? I'm sorry for sounding dull..

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  Год назад +1

      @@MusicMinisterJP7 Not a problem - glad to help.
      I use a tattoo ink cup to mix my paints, I drop in one or two drops of thinner first, then yes, drop in the correct ratios thereafter as you state. If you want a bigger batch, just multiply the drops.
      Stir it together, maybe another drop (literally a drop or two) of thinner, make sure its nice and consistent and the color you're after, then I slowly add thinner to get the right spraying consistency I want. With Tamiya I always start with 50/50, so if I put in a total say 9 drops of paint, I will put in 9 drops of thinner, but usually I got a bit more as Tamiya XF paint can be quite thick!

    • @MusicMinisterJP7
      @MusicMinisterJP7 Год назад

      @@beckersmodels Thank you very much. There is a question I've wanted to ask someone on this topic of batch size. How much paint/primer would I need to fill the airbrushs cup, in order to cover the entire 1/48 scale aircraft?
      I ask for two reasons; 1, I don't know, 2, if I run out of paint 3/4s of the way, I may need to mix up some more, and it may not match equally. Thanks again, and I apologize for asking so much.

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  Год назад +1

      @@MusicMinisterJP7 No keep asking I love helping out. If you were to paint the entire 1/48 aircraft with this blend, you're probably looking at a little less than a small jar of the Tamiya paint to mix up. You can buy these empty, or just keep your old ones to recycle (I just clean them out with lacquer thinner), or buy some glass paint jars to make a larger batch, which is what I do for bigger jobs. Dont be too concerned if it doesnt match equally if you need to mix up some more - the way around that (Ive found through trial and error) is to paint the horizontal or vertical surfaces first, then the other "face" which could be a slightly different color anyway. If you make it too uniform, it will look like a diecast toy!
