when i was a kid this happened to my moms car at a gas station, a nice cable installation guy helped by using cable wire, it lasted about 30 min lol, at least he tried
You can buy a metal bracket, which is essentially doing the same thing, and will last just as long for about 5-10 bucks at pepboys or autozone. To people watching this though, be careful bc this isn't legal in every state. Pennsylvania Inspection requires any kind of bracket to be bolted to the frame of the car. If it's not bolted, it won't pass unless you've got a buddy who will sign it off for you (PA doesn't use DMVs for inspection. You can get it inspected at any auto shop that is state certified).
my muffler was so rusted the exhaust pipe disconnected from it driving down the road...$300 for a new muffler install, and then $75 to redo the other piping and I have a new exhaust that's already rusting again yeeeehawwww I'll tell ya I'd be a millionaire if I didn't have to buy shit for my ride.
I've used wire coat hangers for years, and used old coffee and vegetable cans with hose clamps to fix exhaust holes. Thing is now in days hangers are getting hard to find as is coffee cans since these things are made of plastic.
I just bought a '66 Barracuda sitting in an alley. I need to get it out of there, but I don't want it ruined when it's moved. I'll have to try that method. ]
I tried to do the same thing a few weeks ago, the coat hangers I had kept breaking when I tried to twist them. Ended up using a piece of galvanized fence wire.
my rear muffler rusted off and the front muffler needs to be replaced, but until I can do that, I want to stop some sort of bad rattle taking place, but I can't figure out what is rattling; if I shake the muffler and remaining pipe by hand, it doesn't appear to be hitting anything-- so do I need to still hang it securely? I just can't figure out what is rattling-- could it be inside the remaining muffler?
no salt on the roads down here. that van is 15 years old i have a 20 year old s10 no rust and i have a 1979 dodge it has rust it spent some time up north

Same here, so many things you can use the old coat hanger for, I got given 1000 from a dry cleaners that had shut down

A mans best friends are coat hangers and duct tape.
