After last year when Latvia literally got robbed from a grand final spot with literal ART, they deserve a place this year in the grand final because if they don't get that, I'm done with the Eurovision fans (actually, I was done with them a long time ago, and that's why I hate that it's only televotes in the semi-finals and just the thoughts of having 100% televotes in the grand final scares the sh*t out of me.)
About the song, I absolutely love it. I love the lyrics and their mystery they have in their tone, I love the instrumental and it’s dark tone, I love his voice and his timbre is so unique, the way the melody progresses is beautiful, I love the progression, the chorus is catchy and he is a really professional performer and how he connects with the camera and really makes you feel the song and get captivated by it (really THE sign of an A-class performer. I feel every word he sings and get really absorbed in the story and get captivated by the way he performs it. The staging could be better but the grey clouds in the back actually di enhance the story but it does really need to be upgraded for the big stage in May if it wants to qualify which Latvia need. But to be fair for some the song might be enough because when I first heard it in the audio alone I was captivated and this immediately screamed winner of Supernova as it really gave me that x-factor right out the gate to me so I guess I might have just proved myself wrong there. But yeah when I did watch the performance initially I was absolutely in awe and captivated after some adjustments from the semi-final performance. They need to elevate their final performance for ESC and dramatically improve camera shots but SVT will do that for sure, they always produce ESC incredibly anyway. The song is a little flat and generic though but that doesn’t matter when it is so captivating. I think it was best anyway that they sent something relatively mainstream for them after 6 years of doing something that is really not that (aside from maybe 2018) so I am not surprised they went with this at all and I am really happy with it. It won’t get them a fantasy result but it is a good stepping stone god future entries if they qualify and get on the right side with it (which id really all that Latvia want right now). It is an 8.5/10 for me and I really hope that Latvia finally qualify again even though this entry is nowhere near as good as Aijā was last year (even though I definitely understand why it didn’t make it).
