- Drag racing Model Y's for science. We raced before and after I purchased the $2,000 Acceleration Boost for my Model Y. In just 20 minutes, the car updated over the air and dropped ~0.6 seconds off its 0-60 time. I can't believe this worked, and how fast it was. This is a preview of the future as Tesla will continue to roll out more software updates.

Got the booooost in my ‘21 Model Y. Luv it
DRAGY recorded my 0 to 60 at 4.14 and 3.94 w/rollout. That's pretty dam impressive for $2K and no warranty or emissions issues. I couldn't shave that much time off ANY of my vette's under the same conditions. Talk about driving a SLEEPER.

Since they started offering the ACC Boost for my dual motor model 3, my car has gotten faster by 2/5th of the Boost offer. Was 4.4 now 4.2. I think I will save my $ and just wait for Tesla to trickle the performance in over time. LOL

Does this mean Tesla are releasing the their cars artificially slower than they actually are, then providing these software updates to simple switch a flag on the computer? I can't see how else you speed up this with software, it's all hardware that provides the acceleration? Genuine question
Yup, but I think in this case they originally were just too conservative to avoid damaging hardware, this update just pushes the car to the edge a little more, which might result in more service center visits for Tesla for those customers. That's the only way I can see it costing money for them, if the car is under warranty.
If you think about cars that are super or turbo charges they come from the factory with a tune, but with an after market tuner can be much faster. In this case it just happens to be sold my tesla haha

Tesla should do a software update for LED interior lighting like they do for rear heated seats. I also think they should have it for an AR heads up display and a frunk light
I have a question, i currently have the sr and want to sell it and get the Lr in a few months. Will the acceleration boost still be around in around 5 months from now? Or should i get it now?
Teslas real profits come from selling software like EAP, FSD or the acceleration boost. There is absolutely no reason for them to get rid of these.

if you're worried about range, just drive in chill mode when going on long trips
There is no range anxiety with ab….. I get the claimed 540km range
I had for 6 months, it doesn't affect the range, efficiency stay the same
At some point the drain on the battery would make the non accelerationboost faster.(prob explains the second run)
If MIE Model Y will costs less than 50k €, I'll get a 6k € statal incentive AND 10k € regional incentive (Lombardia I love you). So Performance + FSD all in once is out of the question... but you can get these features (almost) after you bought it!! Awesome!! 🤯

What's interesting is Tesla uses a 1ft rollout for their 0-60 on the Performance models, but not the LR. The LR 0-60 is closer to 3.9-4.0s with the boost, and 4.5-4.6 without it.
I just can’t talk myself into dropping the $2k + tax. I want it, but can’t make myself pull the trigger. I guess it’s because the car is pretty damn fast already.

They need to do this to the model 3 Performance to make it 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. Don’t think about it competing with Model S, it needs to be thought of with just making extra $$. I would pay $2k-$4k for that. Pure profit and would help offset people that aren’t buying FSD!
