    I couldn't hear the dog until you pointed it out. Not surprised at the results. While they're all hitters, Glenallachie is an amazing whiskey. I have 2 Glenallachie single barrels, and they go toe to toe with anything from Campbelltown. That said, I would still say the Arran 10 is the best value scotch.

      I agree. Arran 10 is a great value scotch. Cheers!

    can't wait for the peated scotch, Laphroaig 10 Talisker 10 Ardbeg 10 would be awesome competition

      @whiskeyisajourney  11 месяцев назад

      Springbank 10, Ardbeg 10, Ledaig 10, Laphroaig 10, and Port Charlotte 10 is what I have in the lineup now. I can throw in the Talisker 10 and make it a 6 bottle flight if you want.

      @@whiskeyisajourney That would be awesome Talisker 10 has a lot to offer in this competition especially cause it has unique peatiness that comes with sea notes making some kind of new peatiness which Talisker is known for. a lot of complexity that you might not get always for a first-time with peated whiskies, I always replace Laphroing 10 and Talisker 10 ( if you find Laphroaig 10 cask strength that one is in heaven )

    I agree with just about everything you said this review.
    Campbelltowns do have a funk ... a delicious delicious funk. Shame the blend failed.

    Yes, I can hear the dog. Do you want another one to join that one? 😂🐶 I have the Glenmorangie, Arran, and Hazelburn. My GlenAllachie is the 12 and my only Glenfarclas is the 105. I'm a big Arran fan, and the Hazelburn is really nice, as well. Have you tried the Arran Quarter Cask "The Bothy"? Cask strength glory.

    • @whiskeyisajourney

      Unfortunately, I don't have the Arran Quarter Cask. I only have the Arran 10. I hope more offerings of Arran will be available in my area soon.

    Great 5 10 year old single malts rundown Peter. Your nosing and tasting notes are right on point. GA CS is a banger of a whisky, not a fair competition against the others but Arran, Hazelburn, Glenfarclas, even Glenmoangie all have place on anyone's bar. I would pit GA CS against others in the CS category. All great 10 yo's nonetheless.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks! As soon as I put the flight together I realized it would be one sided, but those are the only 10 year old single malts I have in my collection that are not peated.

    The Glenmorangie is supposedly the biggest selling single malt in the pubs in Scotland. When ever I have it, it reminds me of Juicy Fruit chewing gum and Irn-Bru Scottish soda.

    thought Arran 18 will rank 1, now I'm curious with Glen Allachie

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  11 месяцев назад

      I don't think they are comparable other then the age. Each one is good in their own way. This was probably not the fairest flight, but these were the only 10 year old scotches I had in my collection.

    Another great video Peter.
    The GlenAllachie is fantastic. Love the 10 , 12 and 15. Never had the Arran but everyone seems to like it and I really need to find a bottle.
    Glenfarclas are sherry bombs.
    Edradour 10 is fantastic as well

    Billy Walker brings the 'cask magic' to Glen Allachie. It will be interesting to see what his own distillate brings to the table at 10+ years.

  • @djbeacon6895

  • @lyacoubian

    Nice mix of ten year olds Peter. I've tried all but the Hazelburn and my choice would have been the Arran.
    Seems somewhat unfair to include a cask strength against the lower proofs. A Glencadam, Speyburn or Benriach would have leveled the field a bit.
    You might need more than one flight to pick the best peated 10 year old Scotch.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  11 месяцев назад

      @@whiskeyisajourney I think that's an excellent reason for NOT using age as a category! The differences between an 8-year-old and a 13-year-old can be far less than between a 43% and a 57% ABV, never mind ex-bourbon versus PX...

      I've heard that Hazelburn sometimes picks up peated notes off of the malting floor. I'm guessing that my batch/bottling was one that did. I'm liking Hazelburn more and more each time I have it.
