Modern BM'ers (anything after the E46 Generation) are absolute German tanks. Even the Mini Cooper (F60- Same underpinnings as 1+2Series/X1/X2) looks like it weighs as much as a stale loaf of bread but drives like it's 9000lbs dry. Say what you will about BMW's but they sure do know how build a proper vehicle.

I just went through something similar with my single turbo G82(spun in to a wall). During the spin, I’ve never prayed so hard. You’re still here, cars are temporary. You’re surrounded by people that care. That moment you realized how thankful you are to be alive, hold on to that.
The feeling of helplessness knowing that wall is coming, haunts me every day. I was passenger in a bad one ( convertible mini Cooper) just turned 18, almost ruined my life. The pain reminds me, daily that I am alive. But feeling of joy walking out of that accident knowing I survived was a different feeling.. my boy was knocked out, but Alive and injury free. that frame straightener is no joke. my homies in Houston easily rebuilt salvage cars and trucks you wouldn't even think could ever be driven again. but this g42 is fairly new. those parts gonna be very expensive from BMW unless he can get lucky finding parts. might not make sense to rebuild.

if its straight from the firewall back, thats where id cut it, tube the front and integrate that into a 7.50 cert cage. use the factory sub frame and suspension bolted to the tube front. all oem lights, and everything just tubed out. youd never know unless the hood was popped. my e92 is done this way, same type of power same 8hp gearbox .
Sounded like a line was rubbing, you can hear it rubbing on the driveshaft or something and as soon as it stops making noise is when he goes sideways. I’m assuming that’s when a line popped/cut in half and sprayed down the rear wheels causing them to spin and go sideways. You can even hear the car spin heavy(rpms going to redline) right before it goes sideways. If that was me I would’ve let off hearing my driveshaft rub on something. Unless he already knew what was causing that rubbing/sound.
After watching the video six times I think I got it. At the top end when letting off the rear got loose, BIG TIME. Whether it was ice, wheel spin or wind. That thing wanted to dance and there was no stopping it. The rear end was sliding before you even started fighting the steering wheel. That was fucking gnarly. Glad to see you’re alrighty brother. Always walk the track at a track rental because they are less on top of their game at a track rental because there are less employees on duty. A lot of crashes happen at track rentals because of this

THIS IS THE ONE THING TO FOCUS ON - Why did the engine rpm spike right after he passed the 1/4 mile marker? I’ve watched the track footage at least 10 times and you can clearly hear the rpm spike right after he passed the 1/4 mile marker. And when the rpm spiked, it was clearly due to loss of traction because you can see the car starting to slide immediately when the rpm spikes. So then our focus needs to shift to what caused the loss of traction - Was it the change in the type of pavement?? Or, was the track wet after the 1/4 marker?? Or, did a fluid line (oil or coolant) break on the car which got on the rear tires and caused the loss of traction??
As someone who doesn’t hit high speeds like you do, honest question: is it normal to shift with your right hand using the stick, instead of the paddles? I would think you’d want both hands on the wheel but maybe I’m tripping.
Honestly that track prep looked sketch since the beginning. It was like you lost all traction right after the 1/4 on the shut down All that matters is that you good 🙏🏽
So what happened is you stayed on the gas after the traps where the track is not prepped there for the rear tyres broke traction putting you sideways and loosing control. You can cleary hear the engine rev up after the traps which indicates you where on the gas and it broke traction. Dangerous track as they had not prepped surface past the finish line.
The most hood thing in this video is not lack of safety measure for an 8 second car but the amount of shit you have scattered throughout a striped interior in an 8 second car.
Dang. That's crazy. On May 3, my mother was hit by a car. She was driving the honda pilot. My sister was in the passenger seat and my other sister's son was in the rear seat. It was late at night and it was pitch black. I actually passed through the scene and I didn't know it was them because the truck was on the other side of the road. My mother called me while I was already miles down the road back to the house. She has a fractured ankle right now and I'm driving her and my dad to doctor's appointments and grocery stores. I'm the only one with a car right now and I'm job searching, dealing stress and high blood pressure. It's crazy.

If you slow down enough, it sounds like wheelspin, it spun before he reacted to lift. I'm guessing he lifted the head and got fluid under the right rear tire. Would be great if he was able to get the log on that pass to confirm what happened up there

THIS IS THE ONE THING TO FOCUS ON - Why did the engine rpm spike right after he passed the 1/4 mile marker? I’ve watched the track footage at least 10 times and you can clearly hear the rpm spike right after he passed the 1/4 mile marker.
And when the rpm spiked, it was clearly due to loss of traction because you can see the car starting to slide immediately when the rpm spikes. So then our focus needs to shift to what caused the loss of traction - Was it the change in the type of pavement?? Or, was the track wet after the 1/4 marker?? Or, did a fluid line (oil or coolant) break on the car which got on the rear tires and caused the loss of traction??

I would also look at the read end. One powered wheel can cause that kind of yaw (rotation).

I doubt there's large bumps in a drag strip. I think it's easy to say driver error but it's also just extremely likely a tire went flat.

Honestly that track prep looked sketch since the beginning. It was like you lost all traction right after the 1/4 on the shut down

That’s what it sounded like after a certain point toward the end of the track…
So what happened is you stayed on the gas after the traps where the track is not prepped there for the rear tyres broke traction putting you sideways and loosing control. You can cleary hear the engine rev up after the traps which indicates you where on the gas and it broke traction.
Dangerous track as they had not prepped surface past the finish line.
The most hood thing in this video is not lack of safety measure for an 8 second car but the amount of shit you have scattered throughout a striped interior in an 8 second car.

Dang. That's crazy. On May 3, my mother was hit by a car. She was driving the honda pilot. My sister was in the passenger seat and my other sister's son was in the rear seat. It was late at night and it was pitch black. I actually passed through the scene and I didn't know it was them because the truck was on the other side of the road. My mother called me while I was already miles down the road back to the house. She has a fractured ankle right now and I'm driving her and my dad to doctor's appointments and grocery stores. I'm the only one with a car right now and I'm job searching, dealing stress and high blood pressure. It's crazy.

If you’re gonna be going that fast track or no track keep both hands on the steering wheel! Especially if ur in an automatic there’s no need to have one me hand on the wheel and the other shifting in an automatic. You miss vital steering inputs at that speed if you don’t have both hands on the wheel.

If you slow down enough, it sounds like wheelspin, it spun before he reacted to lift. I'm guessing he lifted the head and got fluid under the right rear tire. Would be great if he was able to get the log on that pass to confirm what happened up there
