  • James Akinjo is from Oakland, CA. He's committed to play for Georgetown next season in the Big East. What's interesting about him is he lead the Oakland Soldiers to a Peach Jam championship last year & received MVP of the tourney as well but, he wasn't invited to McDonald's, Jordan Brand & even the Allen Iverson(Georgetown Alumni) All American events. He did however make the Ballislife All American game. Here are some highlights and an interview we has with him.

      In today's league you actually have to be a good defender. I think that handchecking gives an advantage to the defender. But yes it is harder for the offensive player. So it's good and bad

      @Tommy Oliver lol they did extremely well?? You need to educate yourself on the definition of extremely. They lasted a season and a half before both of them transferred out. Georgetown went 15-17 this year and was on a 7 game losing streak before play stopped... That's extremely well to you?? They lasted one season where they went 19-13... Good but not great and didn't even make the NCAA tournament and got bounced in the first round of the NIT... That's extremely well to you? They didn't fit well together obviously... Get your facts straight before you start talking

    • @sg5ever
      @sg5ever 4 года назад

      @Tommy Oliver nobody said anything about winning it all. I mentioned that they didn't even make the NCAA tournament with the talent that they did have. I addressed your statement of " extremely well"... Maybe if you understood how the English language worked you would know what EXTREMELY well means. You sound dumb defending a failing season as if a sub .500 season is EXTREMELY good. Individually they're both amazing but together nah it wasn't gonna work with them both needing the ball. Go find a dictionary before you speak

    It’s called old school hard nosed defense but I know they call it fouls nowadays. These new young guards don’t know what to do if someone bodying you up cause they don’t do that any more. I respect the kid cause he is hungry. And he does not back down from no one because they got mix tapes everyone can get got in basketball even the best. Much respect to him and Oakland.

    • @mlara03celtics
      @mlara03celtics 6 лет назад +2

      the orbit I agree with you but that was because Jordan had to face triple teams all day and people trying to kill him when he went to the hole so don’t give me that s**t. These guys nowadays are shooting 30 foot 3s but can’t take a little bit of hand checking in a competitive game that’s made to make a player work to score. Come on bro be real with yourself these kids nowadays are not built for that type of D. I am not hating just stating facts. None of the players were bitchin about fouls cause it’s a drill your supposed to get physical and competitive. Anyway just my two sense for what that’s worth.

      @mlara03celtics 6 лет назад

      Daeyon James Not about skill it’s about competitiveness ask any real baller if they wouldn’t do anything to win especially with no refs involved. He’s not being dirty he’s just playing hard nosed defense if he’s fouling the other players aren’t saying anything. The beauty of this drill is that u can do the same back point blank. It’s not a skill based drill it’s a will based drill.

    Facts like everyone saying that's sub par defense at best. As a 6'1 bball player defense comes primarily from the legs. Being in the right positions and cutting or closing in on your opponents driving lanes is the right defense. & being able to keep your hands up at the right times. Also great sometimes to stretch you arms out horizontally, esp if you have long arms. But always be quick on your feet.

    • @someguyfrommemphis
      @someguyfrommemphis 6 лет назад

      Emrvld tbh good D means footwork (legs) regardless of height, and you're right ab hands up or out at the right time..

    He has great potential but in this video I see that his weakness is he plays "angrily". A good basketball player knows that the first battle on the court isnt with his opponent, its his Mindset. The first step to a successful game is to always get yourself into the zone/mindset before starting to try making shots.

    His offense is 👍.
    Defense is more like trying to make the other player travel, carry.
    I seen the comments saying it’s soft🤔. When in fact when you have to grab a player because you’re afraid they will cross you is what would appear to be more soft actually.
    His defense is made for football, his offense is made for basketball.

    Love his drive and his heart but he plays defense with his hands lol, not sure why they dont call so many obvious hand checks. That being said he has good hands too. Not a consistent shooter nor is he a consistent finisher at the rim. Lotta heart but a lot of work to do to reach his goal.

    i for one love it, and as a gtown fanatic can't wait for this backcourt to link up. Heart, grit, determination and stubbornness from both of them. Now to all the lollipops moaning bout "hand checking". Pppfffttt as if the kid doesn't have lateral foot speed anyway. Only an all finesse hs player would bitch about this. This is the fuckin BIG EAST!!! No lollipops allowed. He's got the same heart/ grit as Jonathon Wallace, more talent tho.
