Me and my dad rode Body Wars a few days before the pavilion closed. Just as the film was beginning, the shield suddenly went back up. Most likely, the other simulators were cycling through, and we were trapped. While waiting for rescue, the ride operators began piping in "A Pirate's Life For Me" to keep us entertained. Eventually, we were rescued and put in another simulator, which worked perfectly. Little did I know I was bearing witness to entire pavilion essentially being on its deathbed...
It's a shame that the Wonders of Life closed down. It was a one of reasons that I became interested in biology from an early age. That interest became the driving force that pushed me to pursue a career in medicine. I had hoped to one day bring my children to Epcot and share with them the things that had such a large impact on me.
It's unfortunate that the entirety of EPCOT has seemingly moved away from learning, art, and culture. It has, of late, more focused on the money-making aspects. I understand why Disney has to do this, truly, but it used to be so different. I adored the entire atmosphere!
@@aliciahelton4246 The thing is that Disney /doesn't/ have to do it. They're a multi-billion dollar company, owners of the biggest franchises on the planet. They don't have to wring every single dollar out of their customers, but they do anyways.
@@echowoods7977 , I agree, wholeheartedly. However, supply and demand show different patterns from guest surveys. People who go into the parks (except those of us who fondly remember the old Epcot) want thrills. Disney must keep up with the Jones, it seems. I also pay attention to the newer generations of Disney fans in my Facebook groups who consistently say that Epcot is tired, bored, and dated. They rate it on the bottom of parks, unless they are really into the food, culture, and festival experience.
My grandma and I went on Body Wars with the motion turned off because of her health when I was a kid. I remember being the only two people on the “ride”!
my one and only trip to epcot and I remember the wonders of life attractions really well ... mostly because as a 12 yr old i wanted to go on the wonder cycles... as i queued to get my chance I was asked by my mom to to look after my then 3 yr old brother at as my other brother wanted to go on body wars ride again.. i finally got to ride the cycles and within a minute of starting my ride my brother disappeared from the side of the cycle .. we lost him for over a hour the whole of the pavilion was locked down no other park guests could come in or go out.. as security searched for him they finally found him in the Goofy about health show... he had watched it three times...
Mom should have stuck with the three year old and had the older brother go on Body Wars alone. Three year olds are hard enough for an adult to contain, let alone a 12 year old to contain.
The Wonders of Life can re-open with an Inside Out theme. Body Wars into Fear Vs The Germs, which could be about Fear and us must travel through Riley's Body to defeat some Germs. Cranium Command into Cranium Command 2.0, where the workers on Riley's Mind give you a tour to the Main Control room where the main emotion gang gives you a presentation of how they do their work. The Martin Short Ride can be the same, except they put on the queue that it's a VHS that Joy found in an old Misney Box and wants to re create the old Martin Short Movie. The Goofy Show can be replaced by a similar one, but themed after Bing Bong. They could also use some of the same games in the middle of the center, except they are themed after Inside Out.
I disagree with using an IP as a cop out to reopen a new attraction, but I do think that, should Disney want to, this would work. Journey into Imagination would also be an adequate spot to add Inside Out theming.
The only problem with Inside Out being used for a Body Wars replacement is that he whole thing is set in the mind like Cranium Command, the movies "inspiration", so Joy, Fear and the rest couldn't travel around the body, only in the mind (basically the brain and all it's functions regarding thinking, imagination, evolving, logic and so on). Inside Out would have been a great substitute for Cranium Command though as they have similar ideas, concepts and setting.
Wonderful video! I liked the knock at Ellen's Energy Adventure at the end... "Well, the only pavilion that's meant to be empty year round." Good stuff. Always look forward to these videos. Keep up the amazing work, and I appreciate the well researched details!
I think an episode about the three incarnations of Journey Into Imagination and all the changes made to the Imagination Pavilion would be really interesting! Love your videos!
These videos are so exceptionally well done, I really appreciate the research and accompanying photos as well as the excellent narration. Keep them coming! !
As a Californian I have to disagree with you when you say that he talks too fast, however I can understand why people from places with different dialects or people that aren't native English speakers could have troubles hearing him clearly.
I can understand him, that's not the problem. The problem is he speaks so fast that he flubs and mumbles words like "pavilion". He's not talking at "documentary speed." I promise you, if you look up any documentary, no narrators talk as fast as he does. It's jarring. It sounds like he's on a timer and if he doesn't get the words out, the bomb will go off. Just like you wouldn't have do your voiceover by shouting every word, you shouldn't have your voiceover sound like it's in a marathon. Again, Californian or not, go watch any documentary. No voiceover actor talks that fast.
IsItModern completely agree, he's talking much too fast to both look at the images and absorb the content being spoken. He also does run many words together and "flub" like you said. I'm a native English speaker from the States, so that's really not the issue here.
8:31 The entrance to the Met Life upstairs lounge behind the windows there was located between those two red pillars and it was apparently mostly used for training cast members who were manning the checkouts at stores on top of food store cashiers and stand operators.
Does anyone else find stuff like this super unnerving? Things that changed drastically, or were cancelled or abandoned before I was born are particularly creepy to me. I can only describe the feeling that these stories give me as terrifying, unsettling, and strange. I've felt this way since seeing parts of my local zoo change when I was around four. Suddenly, what used to be so familiar to me, was now just... gone. Same thing with cancelled and lost media.
I get that feeling, too. I especially like taking a look at things that were lost to time before I was born or old enough to remember them at all, even though it's a little bit creepy for me.
I wish this pavilion still existed when I was growing up. My Mom worked in a hospital and knows A TON about the human body. I could see her gushing teaching me a ton of facts about the body. She also LOVES thrill rides so I could see the two of us riding Body Wars together while my Dad stayed at Goofy about Health waiting for us to get off.
Going in the convention center is a little sad. My brother and I have fond memories of the sensory play area, Cranium Command, the works. We went back during food & wine late last year and were shocked by how dated the building is. The flooring, the plants. The ruddy way the light comes in. We took a few pictures of places we recognized, and are still looking for photos of us as kids in the pavilion to compare them to.
This is such a great series. EPCOT is my favorite park, and the Wonders of Life (along with the other original buildings) bring back the best memories.
Really digging these videos and the format is very well thought out and professional. I recall there being a place at Epcot called Innovations, much like the one that is still there today, but filled with TONS of Sega Genesis and Nintendo games. This was during the mid-90's and it was an absolute blast. Now innovations is just...about paint? I dunno.
I went to Epcot one time, when I was a child in the very early 90s. seeing a lot of this really took me back. It's sad that all of that stuff inside the wonders of life dome is gone now. Thank you for the blast from the past!
My only memories of this building were: getting violently sick on Body Wars, and the moment when I volunteered during a live show featuring a host and two twins who would speak alternately for every other word. They were answering questions about the human body, and, being young, and a clown, I asked "Why did the dolphin splash the whale?" They tried to answer, in which I grabbed the mic and said "He did it on porpoise" (a joke I heard on Muppet Babies), and I returned to my family among a crowd of laughing, with my siblings cheering me on, my dad mortified that I made a spectacle of myself, and my mom, who knew exactly what I was going to do, trying so hard not to laugh. Ah, good memories.
I'm staying at Disney right now, and I just got to see the pavilion for the first time (even though I've been here like 10 times). All I have to say is, damn, it's so sad I'll never get to see it before it became a festival center.
I'm quite annoyed with the integration of Disney Characters into Epcot, but I can see "Inside Out" as a good addition for The Wonders of Life. You know, depending if it's educational.
Inside out was inspired by Cranium Command. Body wars could be remastered in to normal theaters with D box seats and normal theater chairs. Making of me could be redone with a updated voice over.
Well there’s actually a closer connection between Inside Out and The Wonders of Life pavilion than you think, because Pete Doctor the director of Inside Out was an animator for the animated segments for Cranium Command. So yeah it would be a perfect fit
Wow, I forgot how much I loved this pavilion back in the day. Seeing all this took me right back to my childhood. It's really sad how much they've let Epcot go. I really hope they're able to breathe some life back in to this park.
Me too. It reminded me of alot of endo episodes of cartoons I saw back in the day, like the Captain Planet episode where they went inside Kwame and the fifth level of the Toonami "Trapped in Hyperspace" game where you went inside TOM. I remember I had a Magic School Bus "The Giant Germ" book in which the bus goes into the body of a sick kid. I loved that book... XD
They also announced in 2019 the Play pavilion which would be an interior reconstruction of the pavilion that would be a fun interactive experience for kids and construction would start a year late in 2021 because of the pandemic. However because of budget cuts in the EPCOT redevelopment program the Play pavilion would be cancelled/postponed indefinitely in a half finished state so currently the pavilion is now a mostly abandoned construction site.
I just discovered your videos, and I always appreciate these; fantastic job! More on topic, I must have been one of the few who truly loved that pavilion; it was my favorite, sans Horizons. In fact, I was furious to find that I had just missed out on it's closing, as I had picked up my first annual pass to WDW just after. I didn't actually realize that it had closed, until I attended an event located in its corporate offices above, and was confused as to why it was so empty. In hindsight, I wish I'd taken more photos of the now defunct location as we left. Oh well...
I did enjoy going to the Wonders of Life back in the day. I would go on Body Wars, but felt it was a slightly better than average ride (worth a ride if I could get on relatively quickly). I did enjoy the stationary bicycles (I'd set it to either Disneyland or Microworld) and the Sensory exhibits. However, my favorite thing there was easily Cranium Command! I absolutely LOVED that show and was really sad when it went away. One thing I've seen mentioned elsewhere (Abandoned I think?) was that the design was very much a product of the 90's. I can definitely see it. Of course, I'd heard that Horizons was very much a product of the 80's, and I'm not sure what an "80's look" really is (maybe I was just too much into that era). Still, I did feel the look of the place became pretty dated rather quickly (not that I minded, but I did notice).
I watched the video without checking anything else, and the quality of the video made me think this channel had at least 100k subs. HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE MORE THAN THAT!?!? Your facts seem well researched and are told very well in the video, and the editing is freaking AMAZING. Come back plox xD
Thank you for doing this video!! I grew up loving Body Wars, and had not heard anyone talk about it since its closing. Any chance you would do a video on Great Movie Ride? I used to work there. Myself, along with many other people, would love to see GMR get some recognition. Keep up the great work!! Love these videos!
Absolutely LOVE your content! So happy I found your channel. Body Wars was such an important part of introducing me to thrill rides... So cool to see all of that again. Great job!
I've really enjoyed these vids. You've put a lot of effort into them and it shows. The visual and audio are great. Most importantly, it's been fun learning about the history of these attractions, the reasons for various changes, and the current fate. Hope to see more in the future. :D
these videos are so well done!! Really enjoying thsi channel and glad i stumbled across it. Just a few thinsg that could help with mt viewing experience-maybe speak slightly slower, i end up missing things and have scroll back, and it would be great if the volunme was louder (I have my speakers all the way up and the video volume all the way up and still just barely hear you). I love how much work you put into these-the excellent well researched history is great, and it is clear to me that you have interest in this topic and care about it! Cant wait to see where you go next!
I was in the pavillion a few weeks ago for the Flower and Garden Festival and the entire roof had major water damage and looked like it coild collapse. During the upcoming Epoct renovation, they'll probably have to tear it down and will create a whole new pavillion. Hoping it will have something to do with technology since that's become very prevelant in society over the past decade!
The entry sign for the pavilion was replaced in 1992 and at around the same time they also redid the entrance to Cranium Command to make it look more cartoonish while also changing Buzzy’s animatronic outfit as the animatronic originally had a different outfit.
My wife and I were at the grand opening of that pavilion and loved both attractions inside of the dome. Everything else in it was very educational. We were there during our honeymoon and we still celebrate the opening every year as part of our wedding anniversary activities. We both really miss both attractions and are sad the dome still sits unused.
I love this video so much. I really appreciate how much care and thoughtful research you put into each video. My biggest request is to keep doing Disney attractions! They have such a rich history that I can't get enough of.
Love your videos dude, I always look forward to them! Keep it up! It would also be AMAZING if you could do WESTCOT! I know it's a long one, but it would be great!
Wow! this was amazing! :D I love how much you researched on this! I miss this pavilion so much! If they dare to do an Inside Out pavilion. I couldn't mind it and love to see what imagineers could do in the interior space for that pavilion. I do think that when Inside out was in concert some Pixar animation must have researched Cranium Command for ideas! I use to not like that attraction, but years later. I have grown to it. Its such a fun and cute attraction. It needs to make a nostalgic comeback! Now do a History of Journey of Imagination at Epcot!
An Inside Out attraction, preferably a dark ride, would be a fantastic replacement for this. Heck, I even remember not knowing this pavilion had closed and thought "Hey, you know what would be great? If the Wonders of Life Pavilion got an Inside Out attraction."
I'll always be sad about Wonders of Life since I feel like I essentially grew up in that pavilion (perks of having family work for Metlife. Woo sponsor lounge). I'm at least a bit happy that at least the building itself is still there and I can go in from time to time and remember all those times when I was younger. I'm most curious as to what the sponsor lounge looks like now. I know last I heard they used it for the Chase cardholder lounge during food and wine a few years back.
The only time I was ever at Wonders of Life was in 2003. By then the whole exhibit area was pretty sparse compared to how this video describes it in its heyday (exhibits always staying on the cutting edge). Still, the overall pavilion was enjoyable.
@@FreedomforHaiti I went in 2006 and I thought it was cool, and it satisfied my endo kink (but now because I'm convinced we're inside a woman in that ride, it doesn't.)
Thanks for the video! I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one to get sick on Body Wars. I was afraid to ride Star Tours until I discovered the ride programming was different and didn't make me sick!
Love that hit at Ellen's Energy Adventure. We can all breathe a big sigh of relief that UoE is going to be taken down eventually. Its still sad to see some of the recent footage of WoL, and see it so abandoned, so derelict. They should take the space taken up by both of these pavilions and put in something great, something awesome. I say keep the Autopia at MK, give them new cars, and put the Tron Light Cycle ride in the place of these two pavilions.
Love these videos. I feel bad that I always skipped the Wonders of Life, thinking "I'll see it next time". Then it closes, and I never get a chance. The Ray Lynch seems to set the mood.
Such a lost treasure, by far in my opinion the pavilion with the most potential and most interesting concept. If i had to bring back one Disney attraction it would for sure be this one! Hopefully they do something with it someday, maybe even a revamped version i'm sure would do well!
So glad I found this channel! Would love to hear the history of AK and why they did away with the Fantasy/dragon section of the park. Not sure if there is enough for an entire video though.
I remember the Wonder Cycles. Loads of fun to ride. And I remember Body Wars(made me nauseous(same as Star Tours). Simulation Rides that shake me around is not my idea of fun.
I'd enjoy seeing you do a video on (what is now) the Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor. There are quite a few interesting things you could say about that attraction and the ones before it.
man I miss that pavilion. for some reason I always wanted granola and yogurt every time I'd go to that pavilion I just wanted healthy foods when I would enter it lol
God, they need to use more of Yanni's music in Epcot. His work is so beautiful!!! Only 3 of his songs have been used, 2 in Wonders of Life and one in Fountain View (unless I'm missing some).
Oh it's so painful to see what they changed to that Pavilion. I remember first going in '97 so a lot of that stuff probably wasn't there still but a good amount of it still was and I miss it so much espically Body Wars. I liked that better than star tours even though it gave me a headache lol. Maybe it was because I liked the story better and wasn't big of a star wars fan.
These are great videos! Could you cover the old Lion King show that was replaced by Mickey's Philharmagic? I can't remember the name, but it was my favorite as a kid. Thank you!
Goofy About Health is a little bit more than you give credit for. Sure, it mostly showed clips from various Goofy cartoons during the 40's and 50's, especially from the Everyman Goofy/George Geef cartoons and How to/The Art of Cartoons but the show had a narrative to it: Goofy lived an unhealthy life, staying up late for too long for several nights, smoked a lot, had excess of eating and drinking alchohol etc. caused him to be stressed at work and home and eventually becomes sick and when the Doctor (an original character voiced by Kal David who also voiced Sonny Eclipse, another Disney World character) he was diagnosed with several health problem such reduced lung and liver capacity, to name a few. With some struggeling Goofy managed to quit smoking, eat and drink moderatly and starts excerizing, he ends up living a healthier and happier life.
I love these videos, what music did you use for this particular video? I also think for your next video doing Universe of Energy would be a good choice, since it's closing soon.

Perfect choice for David Lanz for it's background music!
Keep up the great content!!!
First timer. Loved it. Going to watch all of them now. Keep 'em coming. Great work.
Yes! I'm so happy you're posting again! Huge fan.
Thank you for doing this video!! I grew up loving Body Wars, and had not heard anyone talk about it since its closing.
Any chance you would do a video on Great Movie Ride? I used to work there. Myself, along with many other people, would love to see GMR get some recognition. Keep up the great work!! Love these videos!
iv'e been waiting for this video since forever, and I'm satisfied, thanks for this one :)
Absolutely LOVE your content! So happy I found your channel. Body Wars was such an important part of introducing me to thrill rides... So cool to see all of that again. Great job!
Amazing video! You definitely deserve more subscribers. Can't wait to see the next one!
Your videos are so well done. I'm so glad to have found this channel, and I hope that it grows tremendously as it deserves to.
Keep them coming, can't wait for the next. Please do the backlot tour.
Man, your videos are so good!
Great video! I think an episode on Superstar Limo or any other early DCA failure would be a lot of fun.
Thank you so much for this, I relived my childhood once more.
Really loved the video and can't wait to see more
GREAT videos. I would love to see one of "If You Had Wings". One of my all-time favorite attractions.
I love this video so much. I really appreciate how much care and thoughtful research you put into each video. My biggest request is to keep doing Disney attractions! They have such a rich history that I can't get enough of.
Good work with the video, very nostalgic!
I just discovered your channel and I'm so glad I did! You deserve at least 10x the subs you have, keep it up!
If the Wonders of Life Pavilion got an Inside Out attraction."
love these videos, great stuff man. would love to see more of future world, journey into imagination or world of motion next yo!
I love these videos! Keep up the great work
I'll always be sad about Wonders of Life since I feel like I essentially grew up in that pavilion (perks of having family work for Metlife.
I had all kinds of thoughts on why that part of Future World never caught on.....Excellent presentation sir. Thank you very much.
Great video! Wish I could've experienced the pavilion.
Could you do history on the Tower of Terror? I just found this channel and I immediatly love it.
Awesome video series!
Please do a video on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!
Such a lost treasure, by far in my opinion the pavilion with the most potential and most interesting concept. If i had to bring back one Disney attraction it would for sure be this one! Hopefully they do something with it someday, maybe even a revamped version i'm sure would do well!
i just started watching you keep doing what you do
Arcade Warrior - Erik Kane sent me here!! He recently went there this year after they changed it!! So had to watch this! :D
These videos are solid gold😍 would you consider doing El Rio del Tiempo or one centered more directly around body wars?
So glad I found this channel! Would love to hear the history of AK and why they did away with the Fantasy/dragon section of the park. Not sure if there is enough for an entire video though.
If they open it again with health still in mind the the personality thing could become inside out themed
Dude these are ace, i need more!
At the time Disney's Hollywood Studios was called Disney-MGM Studios when Body Wars opened.
These videos are amazing! I love your narration :)
Have you ever thought about doing videos on concepts never built? Such as EPCOT's Project Gemini?
You are a marvelous gem of entertainment! Please do more Disney World! Everybody loves Disney World, how about the new snow white ride!
It had a small conference area too. Some Met employees from around the US had annual meetings there, it was a great perk!
I love your videos! Could you do the Tiki Room?
Emily Nessing It's still there and operating
and thank god it is
yes it has an interesting history!
I remember the Wonder Cycles.
Loads of fun to ride.
And
I remember Body Wars(made me nauseous(same as Star Tours).
Simulation Rides that shake me around is not my idea of fun.
I was so blessed to see Disney in the 80’s and 90’s.
Never realized how mission space used the original space pavilion design
I always loved "Body Wars"! It reminded me of "Fantastic Voyage" (1966)
Shepperd November same
It reminded me of the Captain Planet episode "An Inside Job."
I'm big of a Star Wars fan, but I still liked Body Wars.
I’m sorry but the idea of a dark ride showing giant moving organs- that would have terrified the living SHIT out of me
These are great videos! Could you cover the old Lion King show that was replaced by Mickey's Philharmagic? I can't remember the name, but it was my favorite as a kid. Thank you!
I'd like to see a video on that, too. In my case it's because I never even got to see it.
love these videos!! :)
i love your videos! id love to see a history of the ghostbuster attractions at universal. as depressing as it may get. lol.
You could cover old Knott's Berry Farm attractions including: The Haunted Shack, Kingdom of the Dinosaurs, Knott's Beary Tales, Wacky Soap Box Racers.
I second this. I miss the old Knotts.
I went there in 2008, a time that everyone claims the park was at its worst. Would love to see some history videos of the park in its prime.
I love these videos, what music did you use for this particular video? I also think for your next video doing Universe of Energy would be a good choice, since it's closing soon.
Now that the Tower of Terror is closing, why not make a video on that? BTW your videos are great! You've earned my subscription!
WOW, wonderful history! Kind of makes me think of what Innovations is going through right now...
