Rebecca not being able to sing is one of my favorite recurring jokes on the show
And the flashback to her singing this song as a kid was when we first found out (the girl they got to play little Rebecca knocked it out of the park at hitting every note wrong), followed by having it confirmed when adult Rebecca sings the same song to a bird and scares it away. This song and it's execution really sums up the popping of Rebecca's fantasy bubble
sammmmeeee. At first I assumed that since she was a kid her voice got better...but no...no...it did not xD
I've just found out about that in this episode!
Also the « shut up » when she sings evil in my own story
Josh Chan also sucks except in his head, if you recall him singing karaoke on his bedroom when he was moving out.

Rebecca not being able to sing properly in the shows universe makes the musical numbers in her head make more sense. If you're actually musical irl i don't think you'd need to imagine yourself singing.
Some of us are good at singing irl and still do have fun imagining musical numbers for ourselves a lot. Honestly, whether you're good at singing irl or not, you typically don't get the chance irl to do full song-and-dance performances relating to stuff going on in your life, with sets and choreography and backup singers and whatever else materializing itself and BOY is it fun to fantasize about.

So rare to find a show that is not only entertaining and insightful but that shows recovery well! So many stories see recovery, growth as "the boring bit" and ramp up the drama. It changes the whole goal and premise of the show from 'who will she end up with' to 'what will rebecca do when she is well?' All the writing in this show is brilliant.
Not to mention the season 4 episode titles all start with "I..." and not have "Josh" or "Nathaniel" in them. Yey team mental health!
Or maybe Rachel is tired of stealing the spotlight and gived a chance to other people of the cast :’)
It is so hard to sound like you can’t sing when you are a good singer, so big props to you Rachel! 💖

You think that’s hard? Try attempting to sound like you can sing when you’re actually a terrible singer. It’s impossible. Trust me.
It actually makes me really sad that Rebecca can't actually sing. Like, there's the whole theory of Rebecca will finally find her true purpose in life as a star in musicals, but she has no talent for it, yet she enjoys it so much (as was evidenced by her activities at camp and her dialogue with her mother). I'm curious as to know what she'll end up doing, as I doubt she'll stay at the pretzel stand forever.

True, but it's also realistic. There are a lot of things a lot of people love that they'll never be able to do at a professional level because they're just not good enough at it.
The thing is she hasn't consistently trained her voice up to this point. I can sing really well when given vocal training but if I don't sing for a while or train my voice it will deteriorate back into bad habits that make you a bad singer.
Being a creative is 5% talent and 95% practice and dedication. I really think the idea that being a good artist, singer or dancer is innate traits that you either have or don't is really damaging and caused me to constantly stress about when I will hit my talent limit and was really hard on myself when I didn't improve noticeably constantly, and I fell out of love with a lot of my creative hobbies because of the pessimism.
If you don't start amazing you can get there through practice and dedication.
Now I want to watch Slumbered now. Please make it happen.

And this is such a perfectly placed reprise, where Rebecca is getting swept up in admiration and love for her brother. She never would have been able to have that moment earlier in the series. ❤️ She's growing so much.
I don't get how Slumbered is both popular enough to be sung at weddings and randomly by Jim, but yet Rebecca has never met anyone that likes it.
Do you know that Andrea Bocelli/Celine Dion song, The Prayer? It's pretty famous in its own right. It's also from an animated movie (I happen to have been obsessed with as a kid), the Quest for Camelot. I've never met anyone who knew that movie (except people who grew up with me). It can totally happen!

Vania Angelus Episode 11: Paco’s Got Talent.
Paco auditions for the Official Bookstore Talent Show, and Joe realizes that there’s more to him then just a struggling bookworm and that he also sings to make the hard moments go away. I love how 1 they flip the Disneyesc song so it is about long lost familial love, 2 one of the few diagetic songs in the whole show is ALSO diagetic in the reprise.

Valid. Look at it this way - things are always contextual. A song about how love is a moment of perfect epiphany might be harmful to a person who's been conditioned to think that love must ALWAYS be a moment of perfect epiphany and that when it is then everything is perfect. But that doesn't mean love *never* involves moments of perfect epiphany. And it makes perfect sense to write songs about those moments. And I think such a song - this song - would be perfectly appropriate to play at your wedding if it speaks to you and you happen to be a person different from Rebecca Norah Bunch during the time period CXG covers.
