When Disney Land began, my family was working in The Enchanted Forest, one Aunt in the castle, and the other in The Gingerbread House. It was a beautiful park, and on weekends I played there for hours. The man who owned it, had to let it go, he could no longer keep up with the maintenance. I in my older years fondly remember. It's wonderful to see some of these fairly tale parks are still in good condition.

This place and Santa's Village were always a must when we were up in the mountains. Dr. Geyser's raft ride is the best!

How cool that its still open and looks so good. Lots to see and do! Great train. I laughed when a little girl yelled out "Faster!", as y'all were paddling the boat past the alligators.
I have a short memory of tiny houses and story book figures, and it troubled me because I couldn't place it and I wondered if it was just a memory of a dream. Well, thanks to the internet I was about to research info about the amusement parks I'd visited when I was a kid, and I found it. The amusement park has been long gone, but various folks have kindly documented some info about the park and some have posted old pictures. I was pleased to learn its a memory from what was Storyland Park in Elk Grove (near Chicago).

Good golly, this video's really taken me back.
Here's a little story with no payoff:
A long, long while back, right next door to Storyland was this little stand-alone attraction called Heritage: New Hampshire. When I was little- like. Four or five, we went to Storyland for the day. I didn't remember a lot of it since I was little, but seeing this video really brought back a lot- like that sea serpent/dragon on the Bamboo Chutes! I was sure I remembered something like that.
But, back to Heritage. About halfway through our Storyland trip, we decided to go to Heritage next door. I have the most vivid memories of that place nowadays. At the time, though, I remembered it vaguely until about five or six years later, I was in fifth grade, and we went on a field trip- as fifth graders do. Since I was so little the first time, my memories of it were pretty fuzzy, since I was way more taken with Storyland. But when I walked in with my tour group for school, I was hit with so much familiar stuff, and the whole walkthrough, I was planning to beg my folks to let us come back to Heritage again another time.
This place was a walkthrough of New Hampshire history beginning in a mock English village and spanning from colonial times to the modern day. It was So. Cool.
But, sadly, that field trip was the last I'd ever get to see of it. Turns out, they put on one final round of tours the day or two after they closed for my 5th grade class. I don't know what exactly happened to the exhibits, but I believe the building itself was turned into Storyland storage space. I've never been able to find a full video walkthrough of the place, if there was ever one made, and it really sucks to know that's one part of my life I can never go back to in any way. That said; in a weird way, I guess, seeing that Storyland is still up and running and people still love it makes it a little easier to think about Heritage being gone. It's nice to see this place almost 20 years later, even if it is through a screen.
Thanks for the upload, sir. It really, really brought back a lot of good, old-fashioned, bittersweet memories for me.
    .
