Hey Qofy! I am a current member of Vocal Point. Though I was not a member of the group during the music video, it has always been my favorite arrangement of the song and I’m so grateful to sing perform it currently. Thank you so much for the reaction!
My son wanted to be a member of Vocal Point years ago but his life took a different turn. They were performing in our town and they graciously let him sing bass with them for this song. I'm so glad I have the video of it.
That’s my uncle, James, on the solo!! He wrote this arrangement for BYU Vocal Point when we was their director years ago 🥰 crazy to see how many lives it’s changed since he showed us the first draft of it years ago. this was so fun to watch!! Thank you!! 💛
Oh wow..he is so gifted. He would be so proud to see his cover version sang by Stand Music a group in Africa. Please refer him to them. @Qofygang it would be interesting if you react to that one too.
Your uncle is a genius!! This is one of my favorite songs EVER!! Sometimes, I listen to it all day long. He was inspired by God when he wrote that arrangement: this is PERFECT. God bless!!
This is my favorite version. I love BYU Vocal Point and that they added the Men’s Chorus to this was an awesome choice. James, the soloist, actually wrote this arrangement and originally performed it. He’s a BYU vocal point alum. I’ve enjoyed all of their videos so far, and it’s interesting to see the change of vocalists over the years. Also, it’s Latin.
Even cooler, the sheet music for this arrangement is completely free everywhere you find it, because James says it came to him as a gift from God and therefore it belongs to everyone. Whether you believe in God or not, that's still an awesome thing to do.
So BYU Vocal Point is a men’s a capella group and one year competed against Pentatonix on The Sing Off. If you loved this song you should react to Vocal Point It Is Well with My Soul. Their rendition is absolutely breathtaking and emotional!
Great reaction! Thank you for allowing yourself to feel the emotions engendered by this incredible performance. One hundred plus men singing together in perfect harmony, lifting up a majestic prayer for nearness to God. Beautiful. Awesome. Overwhelming. Tears are an appropriate response.
This is one of my favorite acappella performances. Thanks for reacting to it! Not only is it musically fantastic, you can tell these guys are singing from the strength of their faith as well.
This version is full of mysticism, drama, and the profound ecstacy of being taken up into Heaven. It isn't just a nice old hymn anymore, but a deep emotional experience to listen to.
You can't shake this off man. For years to come, you will be coming back to top up. It feels you eavesdropped on Heaven's music. Can't unhear this. 😇 They did this again virtually with opera music and people from all over the world. Please do a reaction of that too. Thank you.
My brother, instead of shaking it off, let it take you away. If you choose to experience the whole thing, the entirety of all it has to offer. You deserve the whole experience.❤️ Idk ur work; today was the first time I’ve seen one of your videos. I’m thinking that you’re a singer, the way that you did that “third eye open” thing as the soloist started to sing. The background “In Articulo Mortis”song is being sung in Latin. “Nearer my God to Thee” will never be the same again. It was a real pleasure watching your short reactionary analysis
Music...good music...the kind that moves your soul to a higher ground...that kind of music, well, we just cannot help but have our emotions connect our minds with our hearts. I have had this happen to me numerous times and with different genres of music too (it's not because of the content of words that they are singing, but the quality of the harmonies that they sing together that makes us emotional). That "wow" out of the blue arrow just hits the target dead center. I agree with Iris, who said "your discriminating ear never fails you"... it is your ability to hear all the parts individually and simultaneously that sets this reaction apart from all of the others. You're the best QoFy! You amaze me again and again.
When you find a professional musician with high skills arranging and composing, pick up a source material song with high quality, a group of youth prepared for give glory to the lord, and all of them get inspired, you get this: an outstanding performance, remarkable and very touching.
I think it was the most beautiful interpretation of this song! Thank you for listening to it. If you get a chance please listen to David Phelps "Nessun Dorma" Live. Thank you and God bless
Hey Qofy! Theres also a girl group called BYU noteworthy who are equally as good. Would love if you could check out there cover of ‘i can only imagine’
The polyphonic layering of this song brings the power to inspire and connect to your sophisticated soul within you. To get the full emotional breadth you must seek to understand the meaning conveyed in BOTH songs witnessing to you of truth in the beauty of sound and harmony. Down In the comments of RUclips Vocal Point versions they have the Latin lyrics and the translation into English which is powerfully triumphant in meaning as well as sublime! Worth it to seek the understanding as you listen again. Check out the meaning of the two songs sung on top of each other to buoy you up with eternal optimism …come what may! You can walk through any trial if you can maintain the divine power of heaven that infuses your soul as you listen to this and contemplate its meaning!
This is one of my top favourite songs of all time thanks to this arrangement (though I first heard it done by monster tenor Tim Waurick, who did a solo version of this, I can really recommend checking out his solo work, as well as his work with his Barbershop quartet Vocal Spectrum, specifically their version of Good Vibrations. He has one of the most insane vocal ranges ever, he can go nearly as low as Matt of PTX and up beyond counter tenor, rivalling full on sopranos). The Latin counter melody is so awesome I can barely express it in words, it gives the song an absolutely amazing vibe!
@QoFyReacts - You have a new fan! 🙋🏽♀ I just found your reaction video after watching the original for the 100th time. ☺ I love your musical insights, & watching you smile & be moved by the spirit brought me joy as well! I cannot watch this song without a tissue. It expresses the desire of my heart… to be nearer to God. 🫶 Another favorite Vocal Point cover is “It Is Well With My Soul”. Make sure you read the tragic & true story behind the song, written by Horatio Spafford in 1873. 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of it being written. Bless you! Can’t wait to see your other videos!
I listen to this several times a week and it never fails to move me. I checked their site, and this was done about 8 years ago and has had 3.5 MILLION views. You said it, the best, most moving version of Nearer My God To Thy.
Have you seen the the zoom version with BYU vocal point and the alums from around the world. I’ve watched it so many, many times. Oh my goodness, you’re crying.❤️. It touches your heart and you feel the genuine love for God. The soloist is in the zoom version. It makes you cry as well.
@@QofyReacts you’re right. You loved it. It’s beautiful and touching. I said it was THEIR genuine love for God. It’s all voluntary and a very strict program to dedicate their talents during what would be classified as college party years. You have a nice channel that I came upon by accident. I hope you have a wonderful day.
You are like me every time I listen to this! I’m rearranging it for a small Christmas event and this is possibly one of my favorite songs of all times. Insane skill and soul, not considering the “chorus” part (“angels do beckon me” i.e.) is so modern and so ancestral, as you say. It’s insane. Loved your reaction, can feel you bro. Take care! Marco
Beautiful singing thankyou i could listen to many more podcasts with beautiful singing like that you should sing more and use that beautiful talent God has given you
I appreciate your kind words. Except I'm an atheist and I do not believe in any God or gods. I dont think my voice is "given" There has been years of commitment and practice that lead to it sounding somewhat good. I wasn't born with it
The language they are singing in is Latin. Specifically church latin (Catholic church had their own pronunciation of several Latin letters that differed from Roman Latin).

Jensen I appreciate you for watching and I would love to see you all live some day!
It's a powerfully written arrangement. It's just so crisp and clear and simple sounding yet full of melodic complexity. Tingles down the spine.
My son wanted to be a member of Vocal Point years ago but his life took a different turn. They were performing in our town and they graciously let him sing bass with them for this song. I'm so glad I have the video of it.
Do you guys do weddings?

I was able to meet him once as I used to be a student there. I was in the BYU womens choir and he was so kind. And so good at singing too
Your uncle is a genius!! This is one of my favorite songs EVER!! Sometimes, I listen to it all day long. He was inspired by God when he wrote that arrangement: this is PERFECT. God bless!!
I try to start my days with this piece. It warms my soul.. Tell your uncle I am eternally grateful 🙏
If we as humans can sound like this , imagine heavens choir 💫. I appreciate the reaction 🙏🏽🤍🔥
Watching someone else be emotionally moved by this song is just as powerful and enjoyable as the song itself.

loved the reaction! I don't know why other people aren't reacting to this! there's only a few people on RUclips that have done it.
This version is full of mysticism, drama, and the profound ecstacy of being taken up into Heaven. It isn't just a nice old hymn anymore, but a deep emotional experience to listen to.
I love it when some one listens something this beautiful and he/she also feels in his/her gut that feeling.. like "wow, what was that?".
My goodness! Your precious tears...and awe......I loved your reaction so much. Angels are singing....💕
🤗

I’m not even a Christian anymore, but this arrangement makes me cry every. damn. TIME. 🙌🏻

Simply magical
I'm so happy they had the BYU Men's Chorus sing with them! I have two nephews in that chorus!

the key change was crazy
The inevitable lone tear at the end is the only appropriate response to this.
Great reaction 🤩
Fun to watch him react
WOW! I really like the 7/8 swing in this. Thank you QoFy for introducing me to this group!
Subscribed. What a genuine reaction to something so stunningly beautiful.
There's a Kenyan(Swahili) version by Upper Hill High school ft Red fourth chorus...a very magical arrangement I say.
Perfect.
great reaction bro ... Its very moving ...
I just LOVE your reactions to this!!! 😍😅😀
Brilliant reaction! Thank you 🙏
Truth tears. The context of the song as Jacob’s dream, the harmonies, the Latin. It’s the most incredible and pure testimony of Jesus Christ. ❤
WOW SO BEAUTIFUL 😍
