Culls are more about letting go of good games to make room for GREAT games. Never feel guilty about it. I agree with you on the importance of the theme for games. War of the Ring, Dune, Trickerion, Anachrony, and Nemesis are all very thematic and elevate very good games into great games for me. I don't buy games, I buy experiences. Theme speaks to me.
Culling sometimes can be a hard but important process. Allows you to make room for games you could not possibly get due to lack of space. Been into it recently; my local game store can sell your game against coupons for other games from their store.
It's funny; cull videos actually give me a little anxiety. I understand (and agree with) the idea of preferring a smaller, more refined collection of favorite games over a huge collection where many games never get played. I really do. But... I'm at the point where I need to cull some games, too, for space reasons, but I just haven't been able to make myself do it yet. It's a problem. All that being said, if you haven't sold Lands of Galzyr yet, I'd be interested in buying it from you. See? It's a problem. 😂😂😂
Ah, the cull. Perhaps unavoidable for hobby game players, collectors, and content creators. You have the make the choice, and I've done it myself a couple of times already. But I still feel that I'm amassing more than I'm passing along. Things I have a hard time with are the "lifestyle" games. You really can't play more than a couple, so you may move onto a different "lifestyle" game, but you want to hold onto as much content since you know that eventually you'll want to swing back around and play it again. Games like Marvel United, Unmatched, Arkham Horror, Marvel Champions, Zombicide... So awesome because there is so much content, but also, so much of a spatial burden because of the same reason... Haha, first world, niche hobby problems.
For me with Azul, I'm the opposite. I prefer Azul to RVGW. River valley just seemed too simple for me with way more RNG compared to Azul. But having 2 copies doesn't make any sense lol
nice excercice, i made a french vidéo around the simple question : "what if we had too much boardgames in our collection ?" And for me, if i have to think a bit about it, yes, i think many of us have way too much boardgame. like you, i much prefer having less game, varied and with the mechanics i like Also, i think many boardgames aren't played enough to feel the need of having those. I rather prefer having less, and make them easier to touch the table and also for me to keep the rules in head ! Too much game, may lead to those "ohh damn... i have to read all the rules again..." and then the game stays on the shelf for few more months/years... I recently been going from 70+ games to 30, then less than 20 now (after a brakeup) But i made a promess to myself. Never going upper than 20 boardgames (25 if ever have any kids) Basically i also offer some party game to my nieces and sister (with whom i'm playing those games so they got a better life on their shelf) (games such as detective club, Kites, Just One...) I'm still trying and buying new games from time to time, but when i do, in the end, if i keep a new game, in the end, an other one has to go.. I pointed out also the ways people could seek to have less boardgames, such as : Buying games with friens if played with them, then borrow them from time to time, going to some boardgaming towngroup and playnights events, or rent games at the library.. There are so many ways to "consume" and "purchase" boardgames better. Last but not least, i defenatly decided to turn my back to Kickstarter industries for good. I don't like what it has become and to wait for many years some games that should sometimes not even came out... Happy playing And cheers from belgium ! My actual collection : -Marvel Champions & Lords of the Rings LCGS (not the entire collections, but enough to play varied solo games as these are my solo favorites) -Cascadia -Hive Pocket -Crypt of Sedlec -Alice's Garden -Codenames duet -Jekyll & Hyde vs Scotland Yard -Flipships (best dexterity coop game in the universe !) -Isle of cats Explore and draw And i'm actually trying and hesitating keeping the followings -Street masters (my only "minis" game left) -Harmonies (close to cascadia, only one of them will survive) -Vale of Eternity -Star wars - Bounty Hunter (which i will offer as a birthday present to a friend) -Zombicide Gear Up (still in test, and between this one and isle of cats E&D only one will stand..)

AGREEEEED!! 100%!!
We need culls to result in neighborhood board game libraries, I think. But the lack of 3rd places in American suburbs really makes that hard.
I AGREE!!!!
Woooo thanks for making my heart happy!!
Of course!!❤️❤️❤️
Super excited about you giving Expeditions to Kim! I'm far more selective about games I like than you or Kim, but Expeditions was really fun for me.
YAY!! I am so glad you like it!!
i may have audibly cheered when i saw you put aquatica back on the shelf
AHH this was such a fun and interesting watch! i totally would cull for the EXACT same reasons and now there's room for...MORE 😱
Don’t fret. Aquatica is STAYING FOREVERRRR
Love that you had a helper Bee, very on brand haha
Bahahaha me too. It’s the best ❤️

That’s such a great idea!!!!!
I miss my kids being that age. 😢 Enjoy the moments.
❤️❤️❤️ We are! I love this age too ❤️❤️
Culling is therapeutic! I love getting rid of games I don't play anymore. Makes space for better games. 😎
AGREED!
