Bellringing at Oakham, Rutland

- There are 2 rings of 8 bells in the small county of Rutland: Oakham and Uppingham. It has been said that Oakham make up for what Uppingham are! Oakham are - in my opinion- one of Gillett and Johnson's best ring of bells. The front 6 are from 1910, the back 2 are from 1924.
When I went there in August 2011 the group I was with decided to ring some Rutland and Water spliced - 3 guesses why! (N.B. Water is London with 8ths instead of 2nds at the lead end.) So this is the result.
This video was Horizontal when I first put it up here, hence some of the comments. I hope you enjoy the 'right way up' version! And I'm ringing the third, if you're interested.
Magnificent bells and superb ringing- a treat for the people of Oakham that day!
I am working near Oakham for 8 months next year. Will have to try these bells.
What a fantastic sound. An interesting and curious decision not to get Taylor bells when they are so local!
@simonbellringer We did go to Uppingham as well, and I didn't think they were that bad. Certainly nothing on these though. Glad you enjoyed the vid!
Don't think I've seen Christchurch Swindon, will try and find it now. There are quite a lot of ringing videos on RUclips now!
I think I'm right in saying that Rutland is the smallest county in Britain for half the year, and the Isle of Wight is for the other half, due to the tides going in and out! And the Isle of Wight has 3 rings of 8 as well
@irkibby Yes, he's from your neck of the woods, isn't he?
Did I spot a young Chris Woodcock on the 2nd?
Absolutely fabulous!! Super sound, great striking!! And I know all about great sound, but a picture the wrong way up - my vids of Stedman Caters at Christ Church Swindon :)
Btw - what do Uppingham lack that these make up for? Are they just a rubbish 8?
Uppingham sound beautiful you should ring there sometime
@irkibby Just done that, it says it may take a while...
I recognise the conductor's voice..
Go to "video oeditor and you can turn the video 90 degrees.
