- Here we go again! it's no secret that Sonic the Hedgehog was an icon of the 90s. The DiC shows are a big part of that success, while I personally am not a fan of the shows and more prefer other pieces of Sonic media, I wanted to take a look at the history of the DiC shows!
Thank you to Ace for the thumbnail, and @AsheBlaster for music and script assistance.

Very fitting that the company that currently owns the DiC library has released Sonic Prime for Netflix, as if Sonic returned to the very place that made him TV famous.
Makes you wonder if it was intentional.
The DiC cartoons are an important part of Sonic's history...
Dispite Sega trying to bury them outside of chili dogs...
That’s Sega of Japan for ya.
I'm pretty sure they still put the shows on streaming services so I wouldn't say "bury"
@@bordring When I say "bury" what I mean is Sega distancing themselves from anything created by Sega of America/Europe in the 90's. Compare this to Nintendo who have taken aspects of Super Show and embraced them, such as Luigi being a coward or Bowser being a dimwitted egotist becoming part of their actual character in the games. HELL! The Super Mario Bros. Movie is basically The Super Mario Bros. Super Show Movie.
@@vegetafan9922 in that regard I completely agree with you
I loved Aosth and Sonic Underground. I love the animation and the shading from the show
I miss how DiC had that hedgehog! Jaleel's voice for the blue blur fits his cocky side perfectly!
Im a huge fan of Underground with all its flaws
I comment it a lot on some videos.sonic underground is my childhood introduction to sonic
I remember watching the full thing just to see Knuckles in it. He didn't even do anything that cool, but I loved it.
@@Schnort Nice people who like sonic underground are pretty rare

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was originally planned to air on NBC's Saturday Morning lineup, but the network resigned from the Saturday Morning business that fall. After the Battletoads pilot failed, NBC finally gave up, and transitioned to "Teen NBC". Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was instead moved to syndication and had slight reworking pushing its debut back to September 6, 1993. (Development of AOSTH begin in early 1992).
The SatAM Sonic didn't start development until September 1992. Fox Kids had shown some interest in it, but they were afraid it would overshadow X-Men, so they passed on it. USA Network originally also bid for it to be exclusive to the Cartoon Express Lineup, but Sega of America was concerned that since it would be on cable, it wouldn't reach a large enough audience, so they gave it to ABC. Ironically, USA Network ordered 4 seasons. While ABC ordered 2.
The show would have lasted longer if Sega of America had simply gone with USA Network/MCA Television.
Where exactly is your source on this
The adventures of sonic the hedgehog was my child hood and satam I wasn't really a fan of sonic underground but it's still a good show
I always hated the sonic cartoons as a kid.
Especially the adventures of sonic the hedgehog, even as a kid I rolled my eyes and wanted to change the channel.
I do have fond memories of having to get up to go to my aunt's house before school and getting to watch satam before I left.
I still didn't like it that much, but it was cool to see Sonic.
The History Of DiC Entertainment
Tamers12345 is continuing the story of Sonic Underground
I'm still sad Sonic Underground didn't get a 3rd season. Good video! I see that you were playing Sonic 2 on an emulator lol
Yeah haha, I didn't notice the cursor until it was too late
@@missbattyone Despite SatAM having some cool ideas like Power Rings and SwatBots, I say AoStH had a better understanding of the concept of Sonic, as at the time, Naoto presented Sonic as a cooler version of Mickey Mouse.
It’s sad that Sonic cut DiC off 😢
Knowing Sonic Underground, the first sonic show I owned in DVD, was made from monetary reasons is both hilarious but disheartening.
Hilarious might be too harsh to be honest but something about the circumstances surrounding it is laughable. Sucks to hear that, but ultimately it did spark more interest from me to Sonic than other aspects.
It kinda shows you DiC’s apathy towards Sonic. And how they didn’t understand the appeal of SatAM (because it’s a dystopian horror underdog story) and saw Sonic more as a marketing gimmick rather than a video game mascot.
PLEASE make that ken penders video, would love to see you cover that
I've really been considering it. I'm in a Discord server that keeps track of Ken and his escapades so I have an easy source of info here but it would pull me into a lot of drama and it would take awhile to make. It's a big "up in the air" kinda thing right now.
@@missbattyone ah nice, you're like a cool spy telling us all about the Ben Hurst stuff
0:21 also sonic boom
Sonic Underground was my childhood.Yeah the show had bad songs and questionable plot points. But I love the narrative sense of mystery and just how different the show was compared to most sonic cartoons.
*[As President Sammy, I pause for a moment, a sly smile curling on my lips]* "And as for my Vice President, the one and only Sonic will bring his lightning-fast abilities and unwavering loyalty to the Paramount administration. Together, we'll make history!" And have a Good Night, gentleman.
They got my boy Knux in Underground, what I wanted back in Adventures and Satam.
Hey, great vid! Really happy I could be a part of it.
Woah who made that song in the beginning
Putting it out there, Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog was always superior to SATAM.
I always like me some cartoony wacky shows than cartoon serious shows
And will be forever til' times end.
They're both equally great for different reasons.
No.
@@secoTheSonicFan I hate people like you you feel like you have to put 2 paragraphs stating your opinion just to make someone feel bad about theirs
1) Sonic SATAM
2) TAOSTH
3) Underground
nice video! I did a video about sonic in the 90s, and a huge reason for it was because of how much satAM influenced me ass a kid growing up back then- Like you said it for sure is my favorite interpretation of sonic above even the games! i can't wait to see team Season 3s take on the third season, and really hope they stick strongly to Bens notes~
Sonic Underground was on Disney XD???
Yup! Wild right?
Ironically, Sonic actually aired on that channel longer than you think.
I say around 1999 up until like 2003 when it was called Toon Disney. (Yes, I seen bumpers on RUclips).
Awesome work, can't wait for more to come!
Ayyy thanks! I actually started on a new video that isn't Sonic related just to try new things out, I don't want to end up just being a Sonictuber haha
Each of these shows have a legacy of their own
AOSTH: One of the earliest YTP sources, introducing the objective best and most memeable version of Robotnik, AND serving as the inspiration for the initial tone and story style of the Archie Comics.
SATAM: Generally considered the best show overall, and for good reason, considering it had a rare case of a gritty Sonic plot complete with one of the darkest Robotnik depictions, memorable and enjoyable new characters (Sally, Antoine, Bunnie, and even Snivley), and serving as the full on basis for the Archie comics and the fandom it spawned.
Underground: The only thing everyone can agree on is how goddamn catchy the theme song is, especially when compared to the rest of the soundtrack of the show (except for I Am Hotep, You Are Hedgehogs), and it also introduced Sonia and Manic, who remain popular characters within the Sonic fandom, alongside the aforementioned SATAM characters.
I saw another comment here about packaging them together into one show, and I have to agree. We could have gotten a show with more comedic slapstick moments, maybe even some absurdist moments, but nothing that strayed too far away from progressing the plot forward in any way. Plus it would serve as a way to bring in the whole classic Sonic cast (except for poor Amy), including the SATAM heroes and villains, Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts reimagined to fit the more serious tone, and Manic and Sonia too. At the same time, the only thing that would hold it back would be making a Robotnik that is not only as menacing as he was in SATAM, but also as hilarious as he was in AOSTH.
Only 100 views is more than criminal
Tysm, I put a lot of work into this and it means a lot that people are enjoying it but as of posting this it seems it's getting recommended to quiet a few people
Sonic? More like sodic am i right gamers
There was also Sonic Boom on C.N.
Bam bam bam bam bem.. bram DIICK... bram
Sonic followed Mario even in cartoons. Both had 3 different series. Even though Mario is somewhat connected.
