Duncan and Peachy was who taught me how to paint, Lloyd was who gave me confidence that I can paint. Thank you so much for getting him on the show. I'll enjoy this one.
Man, I needed this one and I didn’t even know it. I’ve not picked up a brush in months. Hobby started to feel different. It hasn’t been the peaceful me time away from everything. Started pressuring myself to build and paint because I’d bought stuff, even though I wasn’t feeling it. Add to that work pressures, home renovation pressures and all the usual negative hobby types on RUclips, Reddit etc…I closed up my desk in July and just left it as it was. Haven’t even been listening or watching to creators for the last two months or so either. But last night I listened to this… Not only has this given me some really great work motivation. But this morning the desk got unlocked (it’s all piled into a bureau) and I’ve painted, albeit just a little bit of one terminator and felt that quiet, peaceful feeling again. Cheers lads…
I'm so glad you've mentioned the nonuniformity of the uniforms of the military. I worked in hospitality with a fellah about a decade ago who insisted that we needed to all look identical in our bar uniforms "just like the navy" (he'd been in the navy for a short stint) I (knowing many people in the military) pointed out that you'd be lucky to see any two members looking EXACTLY the same...
Lloyd gave me the confidence to actually really try and improve my painting skills with his Lumineth turiorials and the results were better than anything I thought I was capable of. I can’t thank him enough for breaking down a complex paint scheme into something that actually felt manageable .
Lloyd, whenever someone brings up painting black power armor I always point them to your video about painting black power armor fast as a great option. I had a lot of BT to try and paint in a short amount of time, and decided to use your tutorial after a lot of consideration. I didn't meet the deadline for the painting competition, but got a lot of reps in with a technique I hadn't used before (stippling), and really started taking into account where light hits a subject. I know in my heart there have to be many other painters who have developed new techniques and more confidence through your tutorials. Thank you so much for that.
You can tell the videographer set up his own camera, that’s a lovely depth of field setting Pat. Glad you have a more spacious command station! Edit: About airbrushes, it’s probably the single best hobby investment I’ve made. It’s such a speed and quality enhancement for priming, basecoating and adding effects. Oils similarly are a big boost, having that extra level of control over your washes is great.
Where do you keep finding these great amazing guests??. Congrats on the new place, looks awesome and it’s well deserved for the fantastic content you gents keep putting out 👏
Another fantastic episode, gents! And Peachy... I am beyond jealous of the lovely Ventrillian you received, and the timing couldn't have been better either!
I owe the Painting Coach a lot for the tutorials and tips he’s provided me along my painting journey. His videos are intuitive, accessible and gave me confidence. Some of the best! Thank you Lloyd!
Another great show, thank you, gents, and the new digs are fantastic, but to have the painting coach as a guest as well just tops it all off pat must've been so happy 😁
Peer education, I see it as teaching and learner development, so far I've enjoyed this episode, I've been playing with wire and epoxy putty while working on a truck engine, working on Nycaloth and still working on termagants
If I remember correctly I think the artwork Lloyd was talking about is actually from Kev Walker. Now that I nerded out let me say I absolutely love these talk shows as they bring the exact right amount of passion and nonsense you'll find in most hobby/gaming groups, in my experience! Keep them coming. I look forward to seeing more of this new, sweet studio. Cheers from France, guys!
Another delightful episode! Getting to see more of the guests and their personal side makes for a great watch, the leadership stuff in this episode was gold. Thanks again.
With respect to paint colours, bit of a behind the scenes from when I worked at a paint manufacturer. The TL;DR production isn't perfect and paints change. The folks in the lab would initially develop a formulation, part of which was the colour, and also focusing on things like weather resistance & deformation resistance (does the paint crack if a panel is bent or dented), and they'd have all the ingredients in EXACTING quantities/ratios. This would then go to the production line, who'd keep roughly to that formula, but not very exactly, it was dealing with entire bags of ingredients and assuming the weights/volumes were accurate, which in most instances there's tolerances built in. Try this yourself, go and buy a few 1kg bars of chocolate (who says science can't be tasty!) and weigh them, see how many of them are exactly 1kg, then how many are over or under by up to about 50g. So batch to batch the specific ratios will differ slightly, so that can have an impact on the finished colour and consistency. Add to that, ingredient suppliers change over time, and you also have each suppliers inaccuracies that compound your own. And even if the supplier doesn't change, ingredients themselves can change due to regulations, difficulties in procurement etc.
Great episode as always. Lloyd is a really inspiring guy, and the whole conversation made me decide I need to give it a try with oils! I've been scared to give it a go but this show convinced it is good to try something a little scary. Thanks again and congrats on the new studio, looking forward to see more and more content!
Loved this chat. Watch both channels so the analytics are wrong 😂 - listening to how both entered the hobby makes me feel ancient…. I remember getting into games workshop with Bloodbowl when the players were cardboard stuck in a base 1st edition 1986, then came Space Hulk and Dark Future Now just happy to watch these channels and paint kill teams and marines 🤟🏼
I love the new place, congratulations Gent's. The leather sofa looks a bit like a therapists couch. I'm imagining Peachy layed out on it and Pat asking "So Peachy ven did zis fixation with pegs begin."
Nice to see the fresh space. However the first thing i noticed was the smaller framed artwork on the wall unevenly spaced at the ends compared to the larger artwork above them 😅
I love seeing people discover how useful and practical oil paints/washes are for minis. The experience Pat was describing at 1hr 05m thereabouts is great. Showing Iron Warriors players how to use masking tape is another great "oh my god its so easy" moment to observe too lol.
Another great show. I do think the wide camera angle made me think of Lloyd as the well built Imperial Guardsman who made the mistake of sitting next to an Astartes. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the studio goes and what merriment you have in store for us.
Great episode as always guys ❤. Alternativ to corax white is ak interactiv 3generation Light Gull Grey (tiny bit darker than corax), or silver grey (tiny bit lighter). Both are so much better to actully use. And kimera warm yellow smells like mango
Oh god yes! I loved that game, weirdly my favourite mission is when you get left on your own after an ambush and have to trek across the map to link up with LZ’s whilst dodging patrols…..blooming tense - Peachy
Are there any plans to get a massive Painting Phase/Chat Show/Sidetracked logo for the Studio Trapped Under Plastic Style? I'm sure it would fit in well
Dose anyone remember the second edition set I'm the Argos catalogue....the laminated book of wonders had 40k for ages and now it's not in there ....must have lost the license
I dunno guys i think the main camera angle looks too far away. I feel as though I'm secretly peering at you through a slightly ajar door, I'm nude of course.
Weird question - where did you get the box you gave Lloyd the sword brethren in? I'm painting minis for my niece and nephew for Christmas and that looks perfect.
Uniformity?!!! Who used directional dice to hand those picture frames. Great new space lads. Has Patrick set himself up with the best camera and a great angle. Looking very official.
To be fair, when we're buying the real thing we have the same arguments over what color they should be... I was in procurement for one of USAF's newer vehicles and yeah, there was significant argument over what color it should be.
The talk of conformity and paint shades reminds me of the big discussions that used to be on Horus Heresy forums and pages about colour schemes. Arguments over the exact shades for the Legions with people getting real heated because this was an "historical" setting. And now GW has just gone "yeah... with the inductii, you can have whatever colours and patterns you want, go nuts" 😂😂
Azera or Italian style ground coffee until late afternoon then a hot chocolate coffee mix until early evening , my hot beverage preference isn't cheap 😬

But the next time you end up in an argument with someone who is insisting that there's only one correct way to do anything, consider that this might be how that person's brain works, and rather than straight up arguing with them try to take a page from improv and work with a "yes, and" approach. "Yes, you're right, a lot of the time that *is* the colour of the inside of the Tiger tank. And sometimes, *this* is the colour." Gently introduce nuance and subtlety, and remain aware that for a lot of people, the idea that things don't fit into neat little checkboxes is incredibly distressing.

these couches look cozy! I do kind of miss how cozy the old shot with the table felt. It felt really personal.
I was thinking the same. The views of sitting on the couch seem to distance the intimacy than sitting at the desk.
Man, I needed this one and I didn’t even know it. I’ve not picked up a brush in months. Hobby started to feel different.

Pat saved the most dramatic lighting for himself!
He deserves it. He works hard bless him.
@@thepaintingphaseis this pat replying hahha
I miss the old set. I liked the intimacy.
Lovely ep, Lloyd is great and the new studio is looking really nice!
Love his shorts on how to paint leather. Still use those recipe to this day. Love the way he says Rhinox hide.
Nice to hear my old shop Cribbs Causeway get a shout out. Think I’d have working at Bristol Central at that time though.
Lloyd gave me the confidence to actually really try and improve my painting skills with his Lumineth turiorials and the results were better than anything I thought I was capable of. I can’t thank him enough for breaking down a complex paint scheme into something that actually felt manageable .
Excellent entertainment as always, and I second the Rosemary & co series 33 brush choice. Love the new digs.

Much love for Lloyd. We started around the same time. He plugged on and I drifted off. Watching his stuff really motivated me to start again.
I recently made my own kitbash of the Kev Walker Black Templars artwork Lloyd talked about!
Where do you keep finding these great amazing guests??. Congrats on the new place, looks awesome and it’s well deserved for the fantastic content you gents keep putting out 👏
when i started again last year this guy got me to my skill point now love his videos
Another fantastic episode, gents!
And Peachy... I am beyond jealous of the lovely Ventrillian you received, and the timing couldn't have been better either!
Yes! It’s amazing…..I’ve been so preoccupied with stuff, my commitments to Noblevember have somewhat slipped through my oily fingers 🤦♂️😂
It was great to see the Painting Coach on! I use his tutorials often and I find his style very helpful. Thanks for all the great content!
Loving the studio space! I'm, really happy for you guys. Here's to continued growth!
I owe the Painting Coach a lot for the tutorials and tips he’s provided me along my painting journey. His videos are intuitive, accessible and gave me confidence. Some of the best! Thank you Lloyd!
Lloyd's a great bloke, and incredible painter, and coach! Looking forward to this one
Safe to say you do a fantastic job of coaching people to paint. Title 100% deserved!
I'm getting into oil paints now. Love washes and now I'm trying out blending its great
Another great show, thank you, gents, and the new digs are fantastic, but to have the painting coach as a guest as well just tops it all off pat must've been so happy 😁

Looking forward to the continuation of the Necromunda campaign in the new set-up!
Thanks for a great show, take care.
Excellent stuff chaps - congrats on the new digs, look forward to seeing the space evolve!

Congratulations on the new studio guys, it’s a start of a new chapter for you all and I can’t wait to see what it brings!

Why is the second picture from the left on the top row in a different frame from the rest?! Pinging my sign makers ocd... Sorry for being that guy 😊
Not to mention the bottom row not being centred to the top row, and none of them looking quite straight... It is honestly painful to look at 😄
