GROWLS 💕 Adorable BEAKING & AFFECTION Between Red-tailed Hawklet Malala & Bald Eaglet Junior! 7.6.22

- Malala is on the left branch and moves closer to Junior and they share some adorable beaking and affection! Amazing to see this interaction between a red-tailed hawklet and a bald eaglet! Junior even looks like he is preening Malala!
Malala flies off and tries to land on the nest while Junior is wingercising but overshoots and ends flying off instead at 2:52 :)
Later in the afternoon, Malala flies back in and is screaming as a parent is heard vocalizing - most likely expecting a delivery. Malala will come down and perch next to Junior and they share some more beaking and affection at 5:30 - incredible to watch them together! ♥ Thank you for watching!

GROWLS is a registered non-profit society whose mandate is the rescue of ill, injured or otherwise disabled wildlife and the preservation of natural wildlife habitat on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. In the Fall of 2021 a webcam was erected a safe distance away from a local Gabriola Island eagle nest for purposes of preserving eagle nest/perching trees and for educational purposes to study the habitat of the bald eagle. The cam is available for live viewing at www.growls.ca/about-growls/ and at the Gabriola museum. Special thanks to GROWLS and Gabriola Parks and Recreation for funding this project. We are hoping in the future to improve the quality of the camera lens for better close up viewing. This is silly. He is going to go hang out with other eagles and they are going to eat him. They should rescue him and put him with hawks.

That is the sweetest bonding ever! We know that the beaking & allopreening behavior is typically a
form of bonding between mated pairs as well as eaglet siblings, but to see this between these two

Lady Hawk, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for your dedication to capturing the most unique moments from the happenings at these various nests around the globe and posting the videos for all of us to be able to view. I try to catch some of these special moments on the live cams, but invariably, I usually miss more of them then I catch. It's been a delight to watch this special relationship develop, but I pray that the hawklet quickly learns to avoid eagles once it leaves this nest.

I don't think that Junior would hurt Malala at this point, unless there was an extreme food shortage, etc. But, I also am concerned about the imprinting, both ways.
Sometimes, it appears that Junior is taken with Malala. Behavior that I haven't ever observed in eaglets.
The eaglet siblings do cuddle, perhaps for warmth, while sleeping or resting and they do copy each other to an extent. But, Junior is so non-competitive when food arrives, for the most part. He has just remained sitting, at times, and lets Malala be fed. Unbelievable❣️
These two defy all the odds of nature this is nurture at its finest.

Yeah, Junior loves Malala and vice-versa and it has been obvious for some time. I think Malala keeps telling Junior "come on, fly! You can do it" so that they can go explore together. 💕

Oh my friend, but we are witnessing the wonderful saga of a hawklet (Malala) who was adopted as a sibling by an eaglet (Júnior) and his parents. This is really amazing isn't it?! They are teaching us precious lessons of peaceful coexistence, love, tenderness and that miracles exist. These magnificent sentient beings are better than us humans. Have a blessed day. 🌷❤️

Two different species, we don't know their sexes, they are at maturity level differences, they have size differences, they have appearance differences, and, Malala, by species, isn't that crazy about fish! Lol! 🐟🐠
But, they are bonded together, for purposes unknown to all, except to God! ❤

Happy moments between Equals--Who like each other and are also Affectionate with one another. At last few moments, i've seen Shadow do that 'Pretend Beak Thrust towards Jackie's Head a number of times--a sure sign of Affection among Adult Eagles--Or here as (Adoptive)Y Eaglet and Y Eaglet. Heartwarming to see--Reminds me of times i had with my Pet Crow --He adopted me as his 'Best Friend" as these two Raptors have --One to the other. Thanks L H.
