Every once in a while a song comes along that perfectly encapsulates both the band and the time of the band's existence.
This is that song for blink-182.
Everything about Carousel, from its initial conception, to the track laid down on Flyswatter, to its popularity at live shows, is just legendary.
This song can be stripped down or built-up in so many different energies and styles that you almost want to classify it as primal in nature. Yet to classify it as anything other than blink-182 would be missing the point.
Tom's impression of a lonely wolf's howl is at once haunting and inspiring, especially if you look at the context of his life at the time and how he has grown along with the other members (past and present) of blink.

This was always my brother's favorite song growing up, and I just thought it was another Blink 182 song he dumped on me. I loved when he introduced me to new music! But now coming back at 16 to listen to this very familiar song from the age of 8, I know realize why this was his favorite song. The lyrics very clearly reflect how he was living his life at the time, when he was my age now. I came across this song, and immediately thought of my brother. I listened the whole way through (yes, even the intro) and I almost started crying. He moved out of state when I was 12, and so did I. I haven't seen him in over a year because of the distance. We've visited at least 4 times within the span of 4 years, and I miss him so much..

Me and my old band covered this song in 8th grade... The best year and the last good year of my life. Those days were when i could just let loose and have fun. Listening to any blink, mcr, offspring, red jumpsuit, just pop punk in general brings back so much. Thats why i love it to pieces.

I mean there men in their mid 30's and early 40's so its not like there going to be singing about teenage stuff for the rest of their lives. the bass part at.. 0:30-0:55 is just insane. I can do it but god, it took me at least 50 to 60 tries to finally get it down. I love Blink 182.

I'm 29 and saw blink when I was 16 live back in 1999. They closed the concert with this song....AND they performed the whole show butt naked with just their guitars/drums/ instruments covering their ....... (well u know)... Got my ass kicked in the mosh pit and had bruises all up and down my back. Couldn't move all the next day in school, but it was so worth it!!

Most punks will not care about the vocal capability, the beautifullness or the magnificence of the singer's voice. So if you're trying to say "awwww the singers doesn't sing the right notes"
I'm telling you: fuck you we don't give a fuck about the voice.

    • @dustybuiscits7424
      @dustybuiscits7424 8 лет назад +2

      First of all
Once again, "we" is actually just you because you can't hold yourself accountable for the population's opinion (which I hope not, because not everyone's a stubborn asshat like you ;) )
Second of all, I don't like the tone. He sings like the mic is a yard away from him and he's trying to shout to it. There's been Blink-182 songs with much better vocals. So he obviously has the potential to do better, but it's the fact that he doesn't that ames feel the need to point it out generally. I wasn't asking for you to come up and shove a pole up my ass just because what I say is different
Be a little open to opinions, buddy.
p.s. If you're gonna use quotes, be sure to cite verbatim

+Gavin Cothern I personnaly and this again is MY oppinion, my only one and I am the only person on this earth capable of saying the fact that I am the only person feeling this way, me and my personnal self think that: You're a little bitch.
Yes he sings off tone, yes he sings far from the mic or wathever, yes the quality isn't great, yes in the commercialised, mainstreamed blink-182 albums he sings way better because of the fabulous reccording studios they had.
I (personnaly and in my own personnal beleif so that I don't generalize my idea, bitch) think that blink used to be a great pop-punk band but as soon as they signed a contract with MCA they sucked ass. Just like Green Day, Bad Religion, Rancid or whatever, those bands qho signed up for money.
Go listen to green day. They sing perfectly well! And the pussiests listen to that bullshit.

@sk8erbob86 quote from Mark Hoppus about this song "we wrote it the very first time i met tom. i showed him a bassline i'd been working on, and it fit perfectly with a guitar part he'd been working on. we'd only known each other for less than an hour and the song was fairly formed even then. it was weird."

The guitar sounds heavier and more distorted because the recording isn't as clean. They couldn't afford higher quality recording until Enema of the State, when they started trying to get a cleaner sound in the studio.
