- We see candidate logos all election season. Some are embraced while others are ruthlessly mocked (we all remember Jeb!). But what do these iconic designs mean? And what makes them good-or cringey?

Any memorable logos we didn't cover? Let us know your favorite... or least favorite. ALSO, we had the pleasure of collaborating on this with Mr. Beat. Be sure to go check out his latest video that breaks down why people don't vote.
Cheddar's logo
@Ford Favorite? Or least favorite? 😅
Bernie. It's rare someone has a familial first name as their logo (I feel like Jeb! doesn't really count somehow). But I think he was able to pitch himself as being more of a "regular guy" by making the logo what a friend would call him in real life
In 1964, Barry Goldwater had a bumper sticker reading AUH2O...AU, the chemical symbol for gold, and H2O...the symbol for water. Gold (AU) water (H2O).
First and foremost, maybe balance the audio throughout this video. Lots of peaks, not a lot of valleys. Second, I think if you look at political advertisements in the 19 century, you will find them to be more varied and more visually interesting than you portray in the video. This seemed like a thesis that wasn’t proven, only looking at logos since 2008. It’s an important topic but it seems as though there’s a ton of presentism on display here. What about Carter/Mondale and the green motif? Or the cult of personality around Teddy Roosevelt?
We like to think that logos don't influence us, but there have been numerous studies that proves this isn't true at all. It's amazing that political campaigns were slow to catch the importance of logos as a shortcut to a brand. Glad we could coordinate these releases! Now, everyone...please vote. (Jeb! reference there)
It probably influences the gullible and weak willed.

Hi Mr. Beat
@@commanderosis435 It creates an identity within the parties identity. It allows for a candidate to distinguish themselves in primariesZ. I don’t think it matters quite as much in general elections tho
I’m excited to see Mr Beat on someone’s else’s Beat!!
Perfect Dig on "Jeb!" I glanced at the screen to see what the Jeb sign looked like, and thought I was supposed to be looking at the church sign in the background. It wasn't until the return to the joke at the very end that I realized that "Jeb!" WAS the sign. .....well executed!
Hillary's H looked like a hospital sign with directions to the emergency room. 😂
it would of been clever if she had made supporting a universal healthcare system a big part of her campaign
@@lemonynora honestly yeah. Dems won back the house in 2018 campaigning hard on the healthcare vote the GOP botched under trump. Had she leaned into Obama's one big success story by making her campaign all about making Obama care better that election could have gone way different across the board.
It was quite perfect foreshadowing for where America's economy would've gone had she won.
Thank you for doing a collaboration with Mr. Beat. I’ve enjoyed watching yours and his for years.
Such an entertaining topic I have always been fascinated with. Please do a video on yard signs aswell
Great video! Glad Mr.Beat told me to come and check this out!
Fun fact - in many slavic languages the word "Jeb!" translates to "F*ck!".
Oh, really!?
Haha that’s funny because his candidacy was fucked from the start. He was politically uninspiring and running in a Republican Party that’s base was fed up with its establishment. Like he couldn’t have picked a worse time to run. If he runs in say 08’ or 12’ his candidacy would’ve done better.
@@dylanf3108 Dude, when I watched that "Pl clap" moment, I thought to my self how the F- this guy is even here. 😂😂
“Please clap”
These kinds of "fun trivia fact post but a video" videos were so big in around 2016, but somehow gone now, and honestly for the better
I remember being in middle school while Hillary was running and seeing kids draw the H and arrow on their arm. Talk about simple! Kids could advertise for her!
and boy was she cheap
But they can't vote.
Which time? 2016 or 2008? I’m assuming you mean 2016
@@dylanf3108 2016 I'm still in high school
@@ryanrowell8860 Ah fair enough.
I like how Cheddar can tackle politically-affiliated without directly taking a side, in contrast to a certain few _other_ channels...
That said, political advertising has the unique luxury of being able to cover far more than the recent "simple = good" trend of other forms of advertising
Very good job at being objective and apolitical. I like to think I'm pretty good on picking up the most subtle, nuanced inclinations towards political biases. I could find none at all in this video. Kudos to this channel, subscriber earned.
I love that this video was under 5 minutes. Short and precise. If this was a Vox video, it would’ve been 15 minutes. Ain’t no one got time for that!
These days I watch RUclips on 1.25x speed.
15 min if good. Not nonsense
"Despite the importance of campaign logos, many people still choose not to vote." Bit of an akward segue
Hillarys logo could be a "Hospital this way" sign
LOL
This video still my fav
Hillary's red arrow pointing to the right always rubbed me the wrong way. It's like saying "dont worry guys I'm not like the last guy, I'm way more conservative"
i dont think that was the intention...
It was meant to signal forward progress. And because we read left to right we associate rightward arrows with forward. You're way overthinking that one lol.
It’s about being PROGRESSive since she was so woke and ran on being a woman
@@AquaDogYT There is nothing to overthink. If he feels that way, it is the right way. A logo is not about the message the sender wants to send but the message the reader associates with it.
My God. First I watched the Mr Beat video, and that video told me to watch this one, and when I finished this one it told me watch Mr. beats video, so I did, and that one said to come back to this one, and then back to the other one, and then back to this one.... I'm stuck! Help!
How can you talk about the FedEx arrow logo, as used in the 2016 campaign, without mentioning that it's the FedEx arrow?
A video on how good logos are, when their RUclips logo is just a big C 😂😂
Wait?! Did I just see a plug for MR BEAT!? Wow #CrossoversWeNeverExpectButWanted
You guys should get a decent condenser mic and studio monitors. The audio quality is okay, but not exactly stellar.
Mr. Beat sent me.
When I was growing up in New York in the 70's, I noticed all the political signs posted about were a dark blue and a bright orange. I never knew why such a garish color scheme. Perhaps it was seen as attention getting, or was designed to show better in black & white photos and TV?
The New York City flag is dark blue, white, and orange.
@@davidstravels8019 You are right! I never knew that before, even having grown up on Long Island! Thanks.
I imagine politics back in the 70s the idea was to still use localized branding. Media consumption was a lot different television had way less programing and the big brands were often more local to regional in nature. A politician running for say mayor in a city like Boston would probably use green colors instead. Cincinnati you'd probably use a lot of white and red to be associated with their baseball team that was famous in the 70s.
Why is it that US elections don't utilise party logos - elephant and donkey - nearly as much as UK election material does? Recognition of the Red Rose (Labour), the black phoenix on an orange background (Lib Dems), and the Blue & Red Olympic-style flame (Conservative) are each universally recognised and in various forms have been used for decades.
Shoutout to Jeb! XD
...who we hope, did his best. :)
I hate to admit it because she's a liar and a vote panderer, but Kari Lake's simple vintage copper AZ license plate signs were brilliant.

The RWB color scheme is so boring. I think one day one of the candidates should do something else, like pink and yellow.
I’ve always kinda hated criticisms of logos for being “too simple,” like idk I really like simple logos
Exactly. People don't understand what simple is.
Here from Mr Beat!
Hillary's logo looked exactly like the Belgian transport company 'Hendriks vervoer'

How does Europe do their campaign logos? I’m sure it’s better and makes more sense. Because America always has to be compared to Europe because I guess they do things better.
3:07 Bill Clinton used this campaign slogan as well
Say what you will about the Hillary H, it didn't look like it belonged on a manual-transmission gearshift knob like Hubert Humphrey's double-H pattern.
2:09 always thought her logo looks too much alike the hospital logo…
Beat!

Jeb❗️
Poor Jeb lol.
Good thing in most of Europe, political advertising is banned in regular slots only allowed in designated slots where it is clear what party the advert is for and you definitely can't baselessly slander your opponent like in America.
Too bad you can't drive a 4x4 dodge cummins in europe
@@userseveneleven At least we have a functional rail system.
@@userseveneleven that's literally a terrible trade off. You don't even like driving that thing you bitch about it Everytime you fill up the tank.
Got to dump America like always
George W was memorable
If I see a candidate with a logo similar to Trump, I instantly know not to vote for them.
Same. Dude ran for mayor of my city. It is supposed to be a nonpartisan race, but his campaign signs looked very similar to Trump's. I ran for city council at the same time (lost), so I told every voter of mine not to vote for him because he seemed to be a secret Trumper. He lost, too.
Stunning and brave. Your judgment’s reliance on your bigotry is heroic.

The Hillary arrow paired with the "I'm with her" motto might as well be "I'm with stupid". Also the arrow signifies a phallus which likely didn't sit well with men who felt Hillary intended to confiscate their masculinity.
what
So much care into logos instead of policies people want smh
Dump, is a no logo not policies smh
Hey, everything is going downhill right now in the US. Are you guys still rooting for Trump to lose in 2024? Political illiteracy will be the downfall for your society.
I feel like you're setting us up to make the comment that his logo isn't the only "simple and bold" thing about Trump
Jeb❗️
I don’t think Hillary’s logo was the turd.
Please clap
America was great until we hit the Trump era. Smh.
Yeeeess Trump 2024!!!
Notice how Hilary had the red arrow pointing to the right? She was an 80's Reagan Republican. That's why she lost. People on the actual left were like, "F that".
Balenciaga bit the Bernie sanders campaign logo and put it on hoodies and tees. Most people don’t even know it
Making a video about campaign logos and not mentioning the insanely influential 2018 AOC logo is criminal. Do your homework lmao.
