This is a beautiful cover. Rufus has a voice that is very full and rounded. Of course he comes from great genes. Hard to beat The Beatles in a contest. Nice reaction. Thanks Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I'm a long-time Rufus fan, he's an amazing songwriter as well. The thing about his voice is that it has a very similar tone and vibrato as a cello. And it's been getting better and richer as he's aged. He's fantastic, hope you get a chance to check out more of his stuff👍❤️
Wainwright is the son of musicians Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, and the older brother of singer Martha Wainwright. His version of hallelujah was on the sound track of Shrek (John Cale's in the movie)
I saw Rufus live a few years ago. He sat at the front of the stage on a stool in a robe, then began to make up his face. He stood up, removed the robe to reveal fish net tights and high heels. He went on to perform a Liza Minelli song (forget which one). Wonderful!
Jai Guru Deva is a phrase often uttered by the Maharishi Yogi whom the Beatles retreated with in 1967. It means in that context “All glory to Guru Deva.” Guru Deva was the Maharishi’s spiritual mentor.
Rufus is the son of Louden Wainwright III, a great and fun unknown musician with about 30 albums to his credit (between 1970-2005) and not a billboard hit among them (also to his credit). Among my Louden faves are "The Man Who Couldn't Cry", "Tip That Waitress" and "I.W.I.W.A.L (I Wish I Was A Lesbian)". Dig around into this families' stuff for a good time!
As others have noted, Rufus is Kate McGarrigle's son. The McGarrigle Sisters (Kate & Anna) are much beloved as musicians from Montreal, Quebec who celebrated their bilingual culture through their own compositions as well as their versions of traditional Quebecois music. @@lisannebaumholz5028 Louden also sang a song (he didn’t write it though) on the Knocked Up soundtrack called That’s My Daughter that is well worth checking out, especially if you have a daughter.
This cover was really good. I think you would like the version that Fiona Apple put out as well. Oh, and Jim Sturgess did a nice cover on the Across The Universe Soundtrack, which is from the movie and both are well worth checking out!
Watch Wainwright's amazing tribute to Billy Joel at the Kennedy Center Honors while Joel himself watches. Does an amazing cover of "New York State Of Mind" and "Piano Man".
This was on the soundtrack of a movie called "I Am Sam." The entire soundtrack consisted of Beatles covers. You should check out Nick Cave's version of "Let It Be."
Interesting tidbit, Leonard Cohen is grandfather to Rufus Wainwright's daughter. He sang Hallelujah (written by Cohen) on the first Shreck video. He is the son of Canadian folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle.
I’m generally not fond of covers of Beatles songs, especially John Lennon’s. With that said, this isn’t bad and he does have a beautiful voice. I’m sure I’ve heard it before, I just don’t know where. I’m about to find out through the magic of Google 😂🌺✌️

I really like Rufus Wainwrights voice. I have heard other cover versions by Mr. Wainwright, very nice voice!👍🎶🎶🎶
Damn, his voice is dope, great rendition of this classic song, thanks for sharing, Harri I was also daydreaming
I always loved the way John Lennon sang this song, but I love this cover.
Canada.. I think..Rufus and wainwright family.. Will Give thought provoking..mind enrichmentl
I think..well known and respected in Canada!
Kate McGarrigle and her sister Anna wrote (and first recorded) the Linda Randstad (I know you like her) hit "Heart Like a Wheel"
They are so talented
This is an excellent cover Charlene I love Rufus Wainwright as well and good reaction Harri.

His cover of 'Hallelujah' is my favorite.
Love his version! In NYC, the ssy after 9/11 all I played is Rufus's version of " Hallelujah ". Beautiful honest
Lennon magisterial of course, but a great effort and Wainwright has done a lot of exceptional cover versions plus his own work.
My favorite original Rufus Wainwright song is Poses.
His song Alone Time from his most recent album is my current favorite❤️

His mom Martha is a wonderful songwriter singer as well. Yay, Canada!
i like his voice and his spirit🌺
Harri..you will appreciate the Wainwright Family and Legacy! I esp like Rufus and his therapist.. On their Road Trip😈💕💪
It is good, he's true to the feel of the song yet puts his mark on it.
You should keep doing this. I have watched this several times.

Fantastic cover of a great Beatles song!
I've always felt this is the best Lennon song along with imagine. Great voice
Father Loudon probably had the biggest hit in the family with Dead Skunk which went to number 16 on the Billboard pop chart.
Who can forget the Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road?

This surprised me. I quite enjoyed it.
Check out his live performance with Sting: Wrapped Around Your Finger: Soooo good!

please try the cover of Leonard Choen's song
Everybody Knows by Rufus Wainwright
Hint: He says "LeDDer Box", American. British would be "leTTer box". He was born in NYC, then moved to Canada. holds American and Canadian Citizenship
I love it when people aren't talented enough to write their own song so they massacre a Beatles classic.
