That Amphibia submission at the end was what actually really confused me. It's literally just a really bad fanfiction retelling the events of the season finales. It was definitely a kid, but I genuinely cannot figure out how and why they submitted that to a speedrun leaderboard instead of... idk, wattpad???

I have a theory about the submissions that are recorded using a camera. Their system might be able to run the game but can't have both the game and screen recording software running at the same time. I know my laptop lags if I try to record gameplay.
yeah, also my gpu is a gt (basically not meant for anything) but someone got me a very high def monitor so whenever i load a new game i have to wait 5 minutes to turn down the resolution (and i cant stream since my gpu would probably uninstall itself from my physical pc)
Another alternative is that their machine has parental controls on it, and their parent doesn't approve of them making videos, and they don't know about the gamebar. I feel like most of these runs the runner knew about OBS, especially cuz the runs filmed on cameras are surprisingly decent.
I am the runner who had the camera on the “tripod”. I have a lot to say about this. First of all it was actually just my iPad propped up on a bunch of books. Also my pc is so bad that I can’t record without it being 2 fps. Also I have a horrible lighting glitch so basically every run has a different colour on the green bit.
Just by glancing at the Marcy theme song takeover, they were apparently "speedrunning" Amphibia, and by "speedrunning" it I mean they just went through the events of the show as they happened. They wrote a whole novel on Marcy getting stabbed by Andrias like that's the most vital part of the run, too, but there's a whole season after that. Also shipping.

He wanted to do a speedrun and try his way and he succeeded in finishing the way he wanted and was happy. Now he has a bar set for himself that he can continually try and reach for to surpass which is what is at the heart of speedrunning. I think showing support for those who try and succeed and proud of thier accomplishments is better than feeling bad for him cause it wasn't an optimal way to go about it.

Safe to say I didn't actually play for more than a minute before my eyes hurt lol. I REALLY wanted to experience this second chapter by myself without any spoilers but oh well, I guess it couldn't be. Ended up watching 8-BitRyan play it instead

You know that box method if used right he could potentially skip right to the end of the game considering he can basically fly ANYWHERE...but it'd prob be pretty tough to pull off
That box is also insanely slow, though. So unless he could _launch_ himself, the best he could do would be to slowly creep through cutscenes or something. If he wasn't stopped by invisible walls or forced into them. Skip the Mommy dialogue, maybe?
The last submission actually made me laugh way too hard, that one person was probably mourning Marcy after the second season finale and decided the only thing that would help them would be to submit their fanfiction onto a speedrun website for poppy playtime.

I respect camera pointing at monitor guy. When I was younger I wanted to be a youtuber but I didn't know how to set up a screen recorder, so I literally took my webcam, put it on a stand, and pointed it at my monitor. I probably uploaded like 30 videos recorded like that. They were horrible quality, but they made me happy.
I love how smoothly sarcastic and saucy Spiff gets with these and how he still has a level of being serious/honest about his takes. Also how he sometimes just stops what he's saying because he's genuinely curious and interested in the weird things happening in the game as he's watching. I'm not sure what it is but whenever I hear his voice go from gently teasing to sincerely confused about the fact someone's game is unusually green I can't help but feel deeply amused. On another note; I do have to admit that it's hard not to feel bad for the moderators of games like these when submissions such as these come around. Especially ones that are clearly just jokes. It's one thing to have a run that's unintentionally bad and have a laugh when you come across it but it's another to see someone posting Spiff's twitch as a joke knowing that other people might jump in to start doing that, too, and you get cluttered lists of submissions for mods that probably already do a lot to try and ensure that sincere speedrunners are getting thorough attention.
I get the whole "record screen with an irl camera" thing. My laptop can't handle mid-sized and over games, never mind with recording programs. Thankfully, I don't do speedruns. Yet (probably). I like how you gave real advice/critiques! I didn't know a few of these points, so they helped me as well.
As someone who recorded their computer screens with a 3ds I can say some people don’t take more effort than a single google when they have other options at hand.

11:26 possible explanation. Livesplit is a very light program in terms of resource usage. Not hard to run livesplit alongside a game. OBS and other screen tecorders are not however. So while the gamr could run fine alone obs could cause it to start stuttering or obs could even just not be able to encode video fast enough and enter encoding overload while the game is running. So to get smooth video they decided to instead just record with a camera.
hardest place in the speedruns are the last place.theres a change that you will get it faster by guessing,so after around 15 guesses you have to give up,and the second thing is its at the end,which is pretty much annoying

The last submission actually made me laugh way too hard, that one person was probably mourning Marcy after the second season finale and decided the only thing that would help them would be to submit their fanfiction onto a speedrun website for poppy playtime.
It's so specific! Why poppy playtime? Why the second chapter? Why not use a version of Marcy's Theme Sing Takeover but fast? And more important, why use first person in the fanfic!? So many questions and not one answer

Imagine waking up and checking your emails and found that your run was rejected with the rejection reason being "pleb".
The best part is Spiff didn't even sign it at all, so they have no way of knowing that their "funny joke" of just submitting his twitch channel was caught by the man himself.
The marcy theme takeover made me bust out laughing. Marcy is definitely the kinda person to do poppy speedruns

I respect camera pointing at monitor guy. When I was younger I wanted to be a youtuber but I didn't know how to set up a screen recorder, so I literally took my webcam, put it on a stand, and pointed it at my monitor. I probably uploaded like 30 videos recorded like that. They were horrible quality, but they made me happy.
I love how smoothly sarcastic and saucy Spiff gets with these and how he still has a level of being serious/honest about his takes. Also how he sometimes just stops what he's saying because he's genuinely curious and interested in the weird things happening in the game as he's watching. I'm not sure what it is but whenever I hear his voice go from gently teasing to sincerely confused about the fact someone's game is unusually green I can't help but feel deeply amused.
On another note; I do have to admit that it's hard not to feel bad for the moderators of games like these when submissions such as these come around. Especially ones that are clearly just jokes. It's one thing to have a run that's unintentionally bad and have a laugh when you come across it but it's another to see someone posting Spiff's twitch as a joke knowing that other people might jump in to start doing that, too, and you get cluttered lists of submissions for mods that probably already do a lot to try and ensure that sincere speedrunners are getting thorough attention.

I get the whole "record screen with an irl camera" thing. My laptop can't handle mid-sized and over games, never mind with recording programs. Thankfully, I don't do speedruns. Yet (probably).

Spiff, make a video on how to use OBS, there's plenty out there already probably but making one yourself is a great way to get the people in your audience to learn, chances are you explain things in a specific way that makes it easier to follow along.

11:26 possible explanation. Livesplit is a very light program in terms of resource usage. Not hard to run livesplit alongside a game. OBS and other screen tecorders are not however. So while the gamr could run fine alone obs could cause it to start stuttering or obs could even just not be able to encode video fast enough and enter encoding overload while the game is running. So to get smooth video they decided to instead just record with a camera.

hardest place in the speedruns are the last place.theres a change that you will get it faster by guessing,so after around 15 guesses you have to give up,and the second thing is its at the end,which is pretty much annoying
