Haha, how long has it been since you've seen the first Toy Story? (Granted, it's been a while for me too lol.) Woody literally was ready to stay silent and let Buzz rot away in the elements when he accidentally got knocked outside via the window. The original plot had him toss Buzz out outside on purpose! Would've been a murder plot if they weren't actually toys. Woody's ALWAYS been savage. It's cool to almost be rediscovering the characters again though... I get that Pixar and many other people find it more interesting to pair up toys that have major differences and I can see WHY they would do it, but... It just doesn't resonate with me. I just wish we’d seen Bo and Jessie interact more (and/or interact with Princess Mira Nova, but Pixar pretends the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command cartoon never happened.)

Hello, my name is Ron and I should tell you that I was the first WDW Cast Member allowed to operate "Buzz Light Year Space Ranger Spin" when it opened in 1999. Prior to that I operated Space Mountain for just shy of a year and then the smaller attractions in Tomorrow-Land before being chosen to open Buzz Light Year. it was a very fun attraction and guests loved it, many riding over & over. this is a great video, I miss Delta Dream-flight very much but Buzz Light Year was definitely a suitable replacement! Cheers To You! 😇👍🇺🇸
I love this freaking ride. Because you can interact directly with it. Like a carnival game meeting a dark ride. I went there for my tenth birthday and this was one of the best things ever
God, every time I hear about how Alien almost had a big presence at Disney, the more I wish they would've followed through. This and the OG Nostromo Alien Encounter attraction sounds rad as hell.
I loooved Astro Blaster in Disney Quest. It was so fun. If you shot your ball at the star on the side of someone else's car, it would spin them around for a few seconds. Disney Quest was the closest to Disney I could get as a kid, so I didn't even know the other versions existed!
I was SO impressed with this ride, and the animatronic Buzz Lightyear in the queue the first time I went on in waaaaay back in 2003. I still always do it once when at Magic Kingdom.
Screamed when this came onto my feed. I've been waiting for this day!! This ride, and Space Mountain, are the only things I remember going on my one trip to Disney as a wee child. One I got to shoot things, the other I was too short and almost fell out...
I went on this, Space Mountain, Alien Encounter, and most of the other Tomorrowland rides in 2001. I remember only liking roller coasters and "space rides." I didn't do Haunted Mansion because we don't care about that ride. (I respect your opinion.) I liked the princesses, but oto-san and okaa-san were hyping up Tomorrowland like there was no tomorrow. (Haha pun)

My parents remember seeing a special that aired in Japan in the '70s about the park. That ride was in it, and even though they couldn't understand it, they found it quite catchy.
As I dearly loved Dream Flight, I wasn't happy with it's closure although at that point I'd stopped being able to go to the park. But as a lover of shooting galleries, I can say I probably would have enjoyed this ride too.
I remember going to that attraction twice in Orlando with my family. The second time I got the 999.999 score, and the crew members gave me a prize of absolutely nothing.
This brings back fond memories. My parents and I would sign up for a FastPass slot, then get in line to pass the time. I swear we went through it 4 or 5 times in a row. Another note about the ride/game interactivity mentioned at 13:31. There was another ride that used a similar concept. The exit area for Mission Space in WDW had a game where two teams would complete tasks and race rockets. This tied into an online game that could be played on Disney's website. It looks like Space Race is still in the post show area, but I can't find a trace of the online game.
What an awesome channel! I was working at the Toontown Fair when this first opened and it was INCREDIBLY popular. Everyone RAVED about it. It's such a great ride and felt interactive and new at the time.
As a British lad I’m lucky enough to have enjoyed space ranger spin as a four-year-old boy capturing my imagination, then moody 17-year-old, and a now cynical 23-year-old man. Always loved it
Around that same time that this attraction came out I remember Disney/Pixar did a spin-off tv show and Direct to home release about Buzz Lightyear being back at his Space Academy. So it was sorta a more in depth back-story for Buzz. I remember the show/movie super well since I was a big fan of it.
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins. I had that VHS. I didn't care much for Disney as a kid so I didn't care for the actual Toy Story, but I adored anything to do with Star Command. I even had the PS1 game.
Great video! Now... Space Ranger Spin in WDW is in definite need of an update. Not even a full overhaul, but I think just updating the guns/targets would go a long way. Those guns are the absolute worst; half the time they barely work. The tiny red laser dots are almost impossible to see where they're aimed. Was probably great back in 1998. Really just a button masher now.
I’ve always loved attractions like these because they’re the closest thing to interacting with the ride itself. If only we could go one step further and have a ride based off choices the audience makes (EX: multiple paths that only happen if the rider say shoots a secret target or enters a password via a keypad on the ride vehicle).
I remember riding this as a kid my dad was in the zone going in my mom was scoffing at him. On the ride we spin around and there's dad in his own cart dual wielding and valiantly blasting away at Zurgs minions it was hilarious
I fondly remember riding that ride during one trip to Disney World. There was literally no line so we went on it a few times. It was both fun and air conditioned. I think that was the trip where my mom had to help convince one parent that their small child probably doesn’t want to ride Alien Encounter. The other parent was quite grateful.
My family moved to Florida when I was 4 in 1983, so I've been going to Disney since I was pretty young. Some of my most vivid memories of those earliest trips are from If You Had Wings. For some reason I just loved it. I was so sad when they replaced it with this.
I liked seeing the concept art in this video...don’t think I’ve ever really seen it before now. Also learned a few things that I didn’t know too. I have great memories of this ride especially the first time I went on it. I was obsessed with Buzz Lightyear and watched the tv series all the time and had the toys and I even had a Buzz play tent that looked like a spaceship. Obviously this ride was on the top of my to do list and when I went on this ride my 7 year old self was in pure heaven.
Just a long time fan thing, I like your older intro more. The Back to the future car is more iconic, and I miss how the last intro ended more. It was more detailed. Love your videos though, you’ve been uploading a lot more recently and it’s fantastic. Keep the videos going!
Fun fact: Every star cruizer on BLSRS In orlando has a pair of Crystolic Fusion batteries mounted on the back. Every battery pair is screwed in differently as if each vehicle is its own toy (ex: sometimes you can see the logo, sometimes its partially covered, sometimes it shows the back). Thats good attention to detail.

I actually went there at one point. 2000 maybe. We were there to see mamas side of the family. I remember being like "this is the same thing as the orlando one but still AWESOME"
"If you had wings" must've inspired that Simpsons episode where they go to a airline theme park and one of the rides sounds exactly like it(minus the airplane mech overlords! XD)
This ride is always so much fun, and I always try to hop on at least once whenever I visit WDW. Also, god, I remember the Disney Quest ride. It broke down at least 5 times per round because the balls would jam the car movement.
To think, for all the success Pixar made during their inception, and for how much people enjoyed Toy Story and A Bug’s Life when it all started, it’s hard to believe they at the same time weren’t as welcoming to attractions based on them at the Disney Parks, initially.
so when i was 7 my mother took me to disney world. i've always been sensitive o overstimulation so the whole experience was (and still is) a vivid nightmare to me. this ride is the single shining good memory from that whole experience.
I had similar problems when I was like 5. Whenever i got too hyper i puked. I remember playing Sonic 3 for the first time and i fell in love with knuckles so much i puked on my neighbor
fun fact: the reason Zurg's voice sounds different on Space Ranger Spin is because that was his original voice - you can also hear it in a deleted scene from Toy Story 2 (an unused version of the Buzz vs Zurg fight scene, timestamped February-April 1998), which suggests they changed Zurg's voice for the movie after they'd already recorded his lines for the ride
I can see why they changed it. That voice sounds like fucking Bane from Batman & Robin. TS2 was going to be DTV at first. I'd hate to see the universe where that was reality.
when i was 5 i went to disneyland, , i remebember when i saw astro blasters, i couldnt read yet, but i saw buzz lightyears face, i begged my parents to let me ride, i loved it so much that i rode astro blasters like 20 times in a row that day, and everytime i go to walt disney world, i ride spaceranger spin atleast 2 or 3 times, its always been one of my favorite disney rides.
i hope this ride never shuts down, i remember that day so well when i first rode astro blasters as a kid like 20 times in a row, infact i still have my minnie mouse light up toy, that my dad got me during the fireworks from that day, everytime i look at it i think of astroblasters.
10:30 Don’t know about that one. A pin is way cooler than a sticker. But, the achievement of getting that max score and letting others know throughout the park with whatever you get is pretty stellar. I recently did so last year, it’s not to difficult if you know where to shoot.
7:12 Yeah I was one of those kids scarred for life by Alien Encounter. I think it’s partially responsible for my continued aversion to horror movies/games.

@@MrDohers True, I just want to experience it at least once, though. I live in southern California, and Astro Blasters doesn't have a smell. And once I've smelled it at least once, I'd give the candle to some weirdo; you *know* there's somebody out there who can't get enough of it.
Do The History of Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris next.
Oh this would be good! Best version of that ride, and even better with the restored Vincent Price narration!
@@StrikerObi nope
Yeah!
You know i've heard many good things about phantom manor but as someone whos only been on HM once (bc neighbor wanted to show me the effects) and likes 80s horror better (read: TOT) i just don't give an f
Interestingly, the email you get when you request your ride picture looks to have not been updated since the early 2000s. It's actually kind of a cool time capsule. I remember going to WDW in 2006, pre-smartphone, and having to wait until I got home to open up the email and see my ride photos. Good times.
It's Y2K at its finest. Y2K + raygun gothic = cybervillain.
That ending slate was perfect
Buzz light year Astro blasters was one of the first attractions I went on when I first went to Disney land
Such a classic
I love this freaking ride. Because you can interact directly with it. Like a carnival game meeting a dark ride. I went there for my tenth birthday and this was one of the best things ever
God, every time I hear about how Alien almost had a big presence at Disney, the more I wish they would've followed through. This and the OG Nostromo Alien Encounter attraction sounds rad as hell.
Me: I can’t wait to go on Astro blaster
Mom: don’t you mean Astro blasters
Me: no I mean Astro blaster that’s what it’s called here
Mom: ok
I love Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters! It was my favorite ride when I was a kid and it still is!
I remember being just the right age for those Astro Blaster bumper cars that shot balls at each other, they were rad.
How do you beat flying over the world?
Flying through *SPACE!!!!*
WITH CYBERVILLAIN ALL OVER THE PLACE!!
I loooved Astro Blaster in Disney Quest. It was so fun. If you shot your ball at the star on the side of someone else's car, it would spin them around for a few seconds. Disney Quest was the closest to Disney I could get as a kid, so I didn't even know the other versions existed!
You were in Chicago? I went to DisneyQuest in 2006 and did the AstroBlaster ride. I also remembered Alien Encounter existed via the Invasion ride...
@@YuukiTakemoto1996 I actually went to the one in Florida, when it was in Downtown Disney.
(Haha pun)
@@YuukiTakemoto1996i only did HM once because i'm more of an 80s horror person. That's why i like TOT. I only did HM that one time because my neighbor wanted to show me the effects.... it was a good place to fall asleep in.
I actually truly enjoyed If You Had Wings:) That song still gets stuck in my head from time to time.
Trashy Disney my parents loved that ride too, and they also had the song stuck in their heads too
My parents remember seeing a special that aired in Japan in the '70s about the park. That ride was in it, and even though they couldn't understand it, they found it quite catchy.
Astro Blasters at Disneyland will always be my favorite, and I'm so excited to ride it again when I go to Disneyland in a week!

They owe you a sticker just ask them
This brings back fond memories.
Buzz: What would Toy Story 2 be without Buzz Lightyear?
Woody: A good movie
As a British lad I’m lucky enough to have enjoyed space ranger spin as a four-year-old boy capturing my imagination, then moody 17-year-old, and a now cynical 23-year-old man. Always loved it
With Toy Story 4 being out, now is the perfect time to get to Buzz Lightyear
yup
What?
I _liked_ "If you had wings" 😃
Around that same time that this attraction came out I remember Disney/Pixar did a spin-off tv show and Direct to home release about Buzz Lightyear being back at his Space Academy. So it was sorta a more in depth back-story for Buzz. I remember the show/movie super well since I was a big fan of it.
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins. I had that VHS. I didn't care much for Disney as a kid so I didn't care for the actual Toy Story, but I adored anything to do with Star Command. I even had the PS1 game.
If You Had Wings was the first WDW ride I'd ever been on. It blew my mind. I was 11.
The dry puns get me EVERY TIME. Excellent as always.
OH MY GOD I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THE ONLINE GAME I PLAYED IT SO MUCH
Thank you for that, I’m actually gonna cry
I’ve always loved attractions like these because they’re the closest thing to interacting with the ride itself. If only we could go one step further and have a ride based off choices the audience makes (EX: multiple paths that only happen if the rider say shoots a secret target or enters a password via a keypad on the ride vehicle).
The original Alien Encounter is still my all time favorite.
Same. S.I.R. was hot...
I loved that ride. I looked up to SIR like no tomorrow
Definitely one of my favorite rides even to this day and that bumper car version was hilarious when people freaked out as their car spinned!
It was both
fun and air conditioned.
I think that was the
trip where my mom had to help convince one parent that their small
child probably doesn’t want to ride Alien Encounter. The other
parent was quite grateful.
I went in 2001 when I was 5. I loved both this and Alien Encounter.
Great vid! Would love vids on New Fantasyland '83 and New Tomorrowland '67 (the two-best land refurbishments Disneyland has ever had.)
My family moved to Florida when I was 4 in 1983, so I've been going to Disney since I was pretty young. Some of my most vivid memories of those earliest trips are from If You Had Wings. For some reason I just loved it. I was so sad when they replaced it with this.
I have always thought about the buzz light-year ride I went on when I was extremely young and hardly remembered. 10/10 work thanks.
I watched the TV series and had the toys too. This ride is what made me obsessed with it.
Just a long time fan thing, I like your older intro more. The Back to the future car is more iconic, and I miss how the last intro ended more. It was more detailed. Love your videos though, you’ve been uploading a lot more recently and it’s fantastic. Keep the videos going!
I think this one is just a one time thing as I haven't seen that intro (the flying to Hogwarts one) in later Yesterworld episodes.
Notice how Buzz Lightyear does not act like a complete idiot in this era at all
It ain't a trip to disney without at least 12 rounds on space ranger spin.
I was a cast member here in 2012! Been a Galactic Hero on almost every trip I've taken since. Miss it every day!
Thats good attention to detail.
i never noticed that
I'm going to Hong Kong in October. I'm excited to check out the ant man ride. I didn't realize it replaced buzz lightyear
Haven't watched you in ages. I probably would have loved these rides as a kid. Loved Buzz Lightyear

Video suggestion: The Disney store! The history of it and present day!
Interesting idea!
Rob Plays has a video about that if you're curious.
It's worth mentioning that the Chicago disneyquest also had the bumber car version. And was the first to close when whole place did.
I actually went there at one point. 2000 maybe. We were there to see mamas side of the family. I remember being like "this is the same thing as the orlando one but still AWESOME"
11:17 "We blast this shit a lot!"
"If you had wings" must've inspired that Simpsons episode where they go to a airline theme park and one of the rides sounds exactly like it(minus the airplane mech overlords! XD)
I REMEMBER THAT OML
HOLY SHIT THAT JUST BROUGHT BACK SOME MEMORIES
This ride is always so much fun, and I always try to hop on at least once whenever I visit WDW. Also, god, I remember the Disney Quest ride. It broke down at least 5 times per round because the balls would jam the car movement.
To think, for all the success Pixar made during their inception, and for how much people enjoyed Toy Story and A Bug’s Life when it all started, it’s hard to believe they at the same time weren’t as welcoming to attractions based on them at the Disney Parks, initially.
11:17 is no one gonna question the fact that it sounded like the kid said a naughty word lol
so when i was 7 my mother took me to disney world. i've always been sensitive o overstimulation so the whole experience was (and still is) a vivid nightmare to me. this ride is the single shining good memory from that whole experience.
I had similar problems when I was like 5. Whenever i got too hyper i puked. I remember playing Sonic 3 for the first time and i fell in love with knuckles so much i puked on my neighbor
Based off a classic film, interactive, incentives for winning, colorful as anything....great ride.
Space Ranger Spin was the first ride I ever rode at Disney World. Doesn't feel like that was exactly 12 years ago today. Funny this video was today.
“excuse me pull string boy, what would Toy Story 2 be without Buzz Lightyear?”
“a good movie”
Buzz got roasted
This was the only ride that I remember from going to Disney World as a kid with my grandparents.
fun fact: the reason Zurg's voice sounds different on Space Ranger Spin is because that was his original voice - you can also hear it in a deleted scene from Toy Story 2 (an unused version of the Buzz vs Zurg fight scene, timestamped February-April 1998), which suggests they changed Zurg's voice for the movie after they'd already recorded his lines for the ride
I know it's 2 years late, but Frank Welker voiced Zurg in Space Ranger Spin. It's pretty cool hearing a character sound like Soundwave.
I can see why they changed it. That voice sounds like fucking Bane from Batman & Robin. TS2 was going to be DTV at first. I'd hate to see the universe where that was reality.
It's his character designer Ken Mitchroney who has also worked on TMNT
The DisneyQuest bumper cars shooting balls looks rad tbh
I felt old when you mentioned the time frame of Delta Dreamflight. I may have been a kid, but I still remember it.
when i was 5 i went to disneyland, , i remebember when i saw astro blasters, i couldnt read yet, but i saw buzz lightyears face, i begged my parents to let me ride, i loved it so much that i rode astro blasters like 20 times in a row that day, and everytime i go to walt disney world, i ride spaceranger spin atleast 2 or 3 times, its always been one of my favorite disney rides.
i hope this ride never shuts down, i remember that day so well when i first rode astro blasters as a kid like 20 times in a row, infact i still have my minnie mouse light up toy, that my dad got me during the fireworks from that day, everytime i look at it i think of astroblasters.
That teaser trailer to Toy Story 2 is one of the best trailers ever!

10:30 Don’t know about that one. A pin is way cooler than a sticker. But, the achievement of getting that max score and letting others know throughout the park with whatever you get is pretty stellar. I recently did so last year, it’s not to difficult if you know where to shoot.

Still my favorite Disney ride. I remember going into the ride 5 straight times as there was no queue. XD
7:12 Yeah I was one of those kids scarred for life by Alien Encounter. I think it’s partially responsible for my continued aversion to horror movies/games.
I loved it. I found it funny; granted, I had no idea what was going on.
