In regards to the small boat at the beginning, in old expeditions in south America they would carry their boats with them across land to the points where they expected to need them again later on. Not sure how well that area was mapped out, but there are a ton of rivers and such in South America.

Jingles, the hair colour change must be on your end. I haven't had such issue. Granted, I had other things, like a noise over white shiny surfaces, due to interference between DLSS and HDR, or weird eye textures in the tutorial. But there was nothing wrong with anyone's hair.

That pretty much sums-up MY knowledge on PC's and Graphics. ;-) As an 'Elder' who has been dabbling in these modern games for around a decade, I am forever astonished at how far graphics have come since the first Atari console arrived. I've spent countless hours in 'Open world' games, just exploring! Doubt I'll ever have the $$$ to invest in a modern, powerful PC. That's just not on my own radar of things I absolutely have to have to live. I sure's heck enjoy watching you and your videos Jingles!

Path tracing and ray tracing are different. Path tracing is calculating light bouncing of surfaces for more physically accurate lighting. You can see how the shadows aren't so harsh when you turn on path tracing, instead of black and white shadows you get a certain amount of illumination from the light bouncing off surfaces giving you nice falloff and softer shadows.

My understanding of the raytracing requirement is that one of the original main selling points about raytracing is that it makes coding the lighting of the game easier for the developer, so they can spend more time working on other aspects of the game. They don't have to come up with a bunch of work-around solutions to "mimic" realistic light movement and reflections; they just plop a light source and give surfaces a "reflectivity" coefficient and the hardware handles the rest.
This is just the first game to take full advantage of that capability by not having the devs spend time working on the traditional lighting workaround stuff for systems that can't do hardware RT.
This next bit is pure speculation: maybe the different RT quality settings here only change a few things, like the number of polygons per reflective surface, or the total number of reflections that are computed (which would be most noticeable in small rooms with lots of reflective surfaces), which is why you didn't see much of a difference testing it in the forest?

Troy Baker the man that was the voice of Kai Leng in Mass Effect 3 and Pagan Min in FarCry 4 and 6.

The difference in high/low levels of day tracing looks to be visible in the shadows, not the lit areas. So Indy's face on reveal would be more properly illuminated.

Great stuff. They have absolutely nailed it. One of the most pleasant surprises of 2024 gaming. Yes, we have reached the point of incremental graphical fidelity as a lopsided tradeoff to major performance hits, even on Jingles strength rigs. I wouldn't be able to play this game as Ray Tracing isn't worth the tradeoff to 30fps with my set up. Shame, but a Jingles playthough comes a close second. Ps: I hope there's an opportunity to return to those University environments. There's always something so damn appealing with them as a game setting, especially with this lighting and detail.

Indy doesn't just look 60 when the light is off, he looks like a different character.

Jingles, i think the lighting issue is your settings/computer.
In my gameplay I did not have such issue.

8:45 - I never understood the obsession with textures. I get it, it breaks you out of the game. But (smacks gums) back in my day when we were talking about terrible textures we didn't have to walk up to the object, stick our nose against it and go "Ah-HA! This looks bad with my nose pressed against it!" No, it was at distances you would normally see them at during *normal game play*. And these textures you're waffling on about, they are more than fine for distances outside of when you walk up and press your nose against it.

Jingles the lighting thing is something with your settings or setup there, I’ve played through this myself on both my PC and Xbox and not had any graphical issues at all like this. I have had a few other minor bugs one of which annoyingly is stopping me progress any further a good 26 hours in but am hopeful it will be fixed soon and still absolutely LOvED the game thusfar!

Wow those are awesome Graphics, but yeah the Hair thing was Crazy looking. I was cought up looking at the Hair color and textures instead of the game as a whole. The voice Actors are amazing thou, well and the game overall is Great looking. disclaimer(I haven't played the game yet) so I 'm only talking about what shown here. thanks Jingles, your good ppl. take care.

No its easy to believe. Play it and you will see how lazy the game design is. I had to stop half way, it just isn't fun and somehow I took out 500+ German solders. The story is ok, but nothing amazing.
