van der beek may have had a couple beers. the single venus has sold 7.5 million copies. great interview, of course robbie should get the lion's share of the musician royalties, but the original musicians should get a small percentage as well, they obviously had a hand in the success of robbie's tune.
Interesting. Mariska wore WIGS!! And to think that was her trademark. She sang in excellent English, but could she speak, as well? I'm not surprised that she was a home body, though. When you watch her performances, they are flat and not emotionally outgoing at all, the sure sign of an introvert. I really loved "Venus," one of my all-time favorites from that era. RIP.

Despite being a Shocking Blue fan for decades, I'm astonished to see that clip of 'Veres' at the end! Never knew she did anything like that. Are there any recordings available?
Okay, well, I've found nothing. Presumably, that band had a very brief existence, so brief that it left no trace anywhere, no record, no demo, no TV appearance, just a few concerts. This means that the footage we've seen here is basically unique. As consolation, Chastain sounds basically identical: ruclips.net/video/NhroYvviV8o/видео.html
According to the Dutch Wikipedia page on Mariska Veres, the band Veres recorded five songs for a promo tape: "Strange Ways", "Your Dirty Lies", "Ready To Leave", "Hear About It Later" and "End Of The Road". It looks like those songs were never published and are not available on RUclips either. It would be very interesting to hear them. Maybe her former partner (and guitar player in the band Veres) André van Geldorp still has a copy...
Cor was completely wrong. The music was copied from The Big 3. The song was called The Banjo Song and is almost identical to Venus. Robbie added the opening chord (which he copied from Pinball Wizard by The Who), and also added the lead solo. The rest he copied. But, he still made it what it is. It would never been a big hit without his re-writing of the song. Robbie is a musical genius in my opinion.
I don’t know of a Japanese version of Venus, but there are two Khmer versions. One is called Komloss Srey Jowm, or you might find it called Venus. The singer is Ros Serey Sothea. The other one is called Neary Chnam 72 by Chea Savoeun. I prefer Ros Serey Sothea’s version. She’s my favorite singer.
+Ada No....although 'Venus' sounded at the time somewhat similar to 'Get Back'....Cor was then just like the most of us, not aware of '"Suzanna (The Banjo Song)" by "The Big Three".....,which had a big resemblance to 'Venus'..... It's most likely they didn't sue because 'Suzanna' itself sounded like a bunch of other tunes.....
It seems that Mariska was annoyed and bored with this interviewer. I don't blame her. Some of the questions were so downright naive and were more about knowing gossip rather than about knowing other interesting things. Btw, Cor van der Beek was hilarious. He really must have been drunk. xD
