@@beny874 the whole point of a cover is to do your own version of an original n add your own stamp to it. Just last week that chick that did the cover for Aretha Franklin's you make me feel like a natural women it was great, the original will always be considered the prefered favourite but anyone that does a cover of something n do it really well gets my thumbs up.
Ive not heard of tash's cover yet but you gotta realise not every cover is gonna be an exact note for note replica of the song theyre covering n if it was covered exactly the same way the original was done then it's not worthy to be referred as a cover.
Take Miami Horror's cover of the logical song originally done by supertramp for e.g. it was pretty much a clone copy of the original song it was so stupid n i actually like miami horror's music for real but their cover of it wasnt even effort. Sorry long post, rant over 😂

@@nicktubara Mate. I fully get that.
I wouldn't want to hear a cover if it sounded the same, and I do have a keen ear for quirky and unique songs.
However, I really didn't like her cover of MGMT. I listen to some of her music, notably Notion, Mystic and Salvation.
That cover didn't do it for me. Had no flow and its progression sounded like it was out of the Baroque period of music.
      Just backwards.

It went from alternative radio to “youth radio” From knowledgeable DJs to really young and stupid. The music went on higher rotation and they cut out the edgy or older stuff. They also dumbed down the discussion and politics to kindergarten levels.

Uncle Fester Yes! Like ABC in general, a lot of the time the announcers are constantly trying to sound funny, but it comes off utterly contrived and embarrassing. As comedians they don't have any runs on the board. Don't they know the cardinal rule that proper humour comes spontaneously and not from some awkward set piece. The only time it is remotely amusing is when it is unforced, which is super rare with this bunch. Having adults on there instead of children might help.

Triple J started going downhill in 1993. That was when it changed from being an alternative radio station to being the "National Youth Broadcaster". • @andrewlockett4569

I largely agree. I estimate around 2007-8 things began to slide as far as musical content is concerned. The last decade has seen plenty of frilly, fairy floss music, way too much generic hip hop and lame duck little cookie cutter pop outfits. Australian bands are mostly well represented, except many of them simply don't make the grade in comparison with their forebears and should be cut.

Its hard to disagree when you listen to double J with all the older hosts, and can actually hear they care about what the hell they're playing and yknow have their own actual formed opinions and half decent interviews about music. Not some dogshit segments filled with useless boring safe progressive force fed opinions with a side of memes delivered by the same two socially awkward losers on every single duo segment or the same hype dj shit on almost every single segment. But hey no ads amirite. The current affairs segment is literally advertised as hack.
Ill never forget it for opening my mind musically coming from commercial radio but its definitely not a "good" source

Good enough justification to skip the J's forever I would have thought. Why not bring back Editors, at least they have a modicum of panache and are light years better songwriters.

All down to Richard "The Dictator" Kingsmill and 20 years of his narrow minded leadership. JJJ lost the plot somewhere between losing Helen Razor and hiring Jane Gazo, who has since been picked up by MMM and still only knows enough about music to read the idiot cards her producer writes out for her. In crayon.

Triple J used to be about a genuine love for alternative music and Australian with a slight disdain for commercial and pc culture. With some decent low brow comedy.
Now it’s entirely about force feeding SJW causes, hate of men and western religion. They’re obvious effort to force a 50/50 gender balanced playlist means the quality of music has dropped significantly.
Every time I listen to Triple J now i am reminded a how toxic my masculinity really is

I watched a documentary on JJJ where they talked about only playing Australian music specifically Rock and Hip-Hop that was controversial at the time. The very first thing I thought was umm What about Kerser? And all the underground Aussie hip-hop that needs publicity to create an Australians sound. Seriously, if you don't play these artists songs then we will be trapped into copying the US and UK. Mainstream Aussie hip-hop still hasn't progressed past the Hilltop Hoods and 360. Yeah they sound good but Hip-hop is supposed to be diverse with Artists sharing their ideas like in the 80's and 90's. Rap literally began with poetry and the point of hip-hop is to make social change. If tripple J and other stations only play whats popular then it's pretty much propaganda. Seriously, Kerser raps about how hard life in Sydney's south west is for Lebanese children from broken homes...
Yet we only play 360 talking about "money over bitches" -Money, Hilltop hoods talking about "a good man's a family man" -Clark Griswald and worse "my bitch love doing cocain oooh" -Gucci gang. Why aren't we playing "I don't need no lean I do good on my alcohol" -Gucci gang Mercules remix and "me and rates found a mangum 44, it was my dad's we was asking what was the for?" Hip hop was made to be diverse and with the industry dominated by American mumble rap and Aussie barbecue rap triple J needs to promote people doing rap differently. Otherwise, why are we funding them?

Do Roy and HG still do the football commentary, they were brilliant? I used to listen to JJJ almost religiously and the music was pretty appealing back then too. So what happened? Last time I checked the music total sucked and the general vibe is so politically correct and commercial.

Speaking critically, JJJ no longer plays any of the alt rock classics they used to, passing them over in favour of endless rap music. It utterly dominates the airwaves and music news. Sure, there are good young female musicians represented, but overall the direction is downward. Neither A Perfect Circle or Alice in Chains even got a mention for new albums, let alone any of their songs played. Be sure when Tool drop their monumental fifth LP in 2019 there will be similar triple J radio silence. Too busy playing Confidence Man's latest fluff or Ball Park Music's new bouncy castle soundtrack. Triple J need a complete reboot, maybe removing their licence for a year or two will help get things back on track.
