Meredith, thanks for what you are doing. Your videos have really helped my wife and I as new realtors get started on iMac, youtube, and instagram. Keep up the great work, and thank you so much!
I like that you explained what us beginners are seeing, unlike other videos that immediately start doing stuff without explaining. They seem to think we can see what they are doing with their mouse pointer.
Meredith, I started following you about 4 years ago, but stopped using my GoPro black 3. Now, I have a GoPro black 12, so I am back to learn/revise. This video is an excellent start. Thank you. :)
*iMovie is simply the best tool for those using Macs because if you're using ANY apple device you can sync it with your Mac. It was my VERY FIRST Editing tool before i discovered Adobe*
Thank you for this video! This really helped me throughout my homework with my brand new M1 MacBook Air. Really recommend this video for most people who are new to video editing on MacOS
I like the way you guide newbies. I just subscribed. I was drawn to how calm and slow your process is .. excellent. I was surfing the net as to how to make youtube thumbnails for food and people's pic on top of each other and i came across your channel. Hoping you can help me. Thank you,
Thank you. Love the simple way you explain! For beginners like me. I have a new imac and clueless. Will definitely be giving my editing a go. Up till now it scared the life out of me!! Have subscribed x
You did an amazing job of explaining everything for someone like me whose brand new to the editing world, super easy to digest all of what you said! thank you for making this video!
Thank you, Meredith. I'm just getting into video editing for my job and you have saved me so much time. I'm using Quicktime and iMovie to document/demo software bugs that have been fixed by our devs, great for communication to the product owners. I'll watch you other videos and subscribe.
I looked at a number of imovie tutorial and this one gave me the basic knowledge (and courage) to try. Thank you so much Meredith! It is amazing that you can impart this knowledge to an attention deficit, techno-challenged and senior citizen :)
This video is amazing! Thank you, I was looking at both Premiere Pro and iMovies and thought I would try the latter first to get used to video editing. I hope to start my youtube channel this year and this video is exactly what I needed! thank you and I shall watch more from you :)
Great video is it possible to add a logo and have a split screen video at the same time when editing a video ?,When your doing the logo as Picture in Picture .
OMG this was so helpful , i recorded my first video last night and downloaded imovie but i have no clie on what im doing and no one in my family is computer savvy🤦🏾♀️ i ran across tyour page and this is so helpful u must of been a teacher or something lol🥰 do unhave videos on making a intro for your youtube channel? thanks so much new subbie❤️
Thank you! Your videos are why I learned to edit and I think I did a pretty good job, Idk how to explain this but can you do a video on how to create a short clip of everything that’s happening in a video, like the bloggers do or how to add Gifs or memes
Thank you for this I have this on my iPhone and getting the MacBook and was wondering if I should pay the extra 200 for Final Cut Pro or keep it with the I movie that comes with the laptop for RUclips videos editing ?
Hi. Well, when I hit the photos button nothing happens. My photos do not appear anywhere. So I cannot import them. Do you know why is this happening? Thank you!!!!
Great job, Meredith. I have a question for you. I am trying to design a video for my church...BUT...I am wanting to use a song to which I add video clips. (rather than adding audio clips to a video) I cant seem to add the clips to where I want them to go during the some. Instead of being able to insert the video clip at the 2:53 mark of the song, it goes RIGHT to the beginning of the song instead. HELP!!!
I very much enjoyed your calm demeanor and your concise descriptions without being overwhelmed with information. I love I-movie but don't use it often enough to remember all of the buttons and shortcuts. Your tutorial is a great refresher. Thanks.
Awesome Meredith, Thank you soooo much. Very clear concise. A couple questions, I noticed you have "Photos" as a library ? I can't seem to find my Photos library to add here but it would be awesome to pick some of my albums videos to work with? where is it ? Also it takes for ever to up load to FB and recommendations on size time ? Thank you so much. Mike
This was a great starting video for beginners. I just recorded an old VHS tape on my computer from the 1980s and now I have to edit it. I'm sure there are a lot of trial and error steps to follow, but your video gave me the basics. I will watch your others, too. Thanks a lot for recording this.
thank you. can i change my video quality in Imovie. i mean there is a 360/480p video, and i want to change this to 720/1080p video. can i do this in Imovie?
Meredith, thank you so much. You are the most articulate teacher/communicator I have ever seen on RUclips, particularly in this subject. I can't wait to view and learn from your other videos. ( Best wishes, Bijan, U.K.)
thank you for teaching a 62 year old newby to video editing yours is the best i have been able to find very slow and methodical for every move you need to know to carry on and not give up again
hi i have a question i can’t drag my video into the thing where i can split and and stuff it’s very confusing and i can’t drag it’s just a big video in the corner i can drag it i am on mac
Hi, I'm watching you video but some of the things your are doing aren't working on my movie - ie right clicking and getting the menu to split the video. I see that I can use the menu instead
Hi Meredith, your videos are so helpful! Thank you very much! I was wondering, is it possible to remove the original voice from a video in iMovie, and replace it by another. In the original video I speak French and I would like to use the same video to do voice overs in English and in Italian. Thanks so much in advance!
Hi Meredith, I love your presentation., nic and slow enough. I have been very familiar with I-movie for 10 years or more and now a friend gave me his newer IMack catalina which has new features which I knew I would love. So there I went pretty sure of myself but I’m finding out that I really have to learn quite a few new ways to do some of the things I could easily do before !! Two questions : I have a mouse and a pad and I cannot do a right click with either one. Next question..I can’t get to see my whole project complete on the whole screen (like I would on my old one one). There must be a way but I cannot find it … I’m also trying to find how to delete events not needed or put in by error. Thank you. I subscribed by the way !
My MacBook is very new, and trying to make a special movie for dad for his final goodbye. This is so helpful to me . Thanks so much. This is one of the best tutorials I’ve watched so far.👍🏻💜🙏
Brilliant starter information! I just edited a video, using your steps. Thanks for sharing. Now for me to figure out how to have an image (preview of sorts) for my video, versus when sharing it shows a black screen...
thanks so much for breaking it down and making it simple for me to understanding! I struggle with tech and this was an awesome beginner explanation. So appreciative!
Many thanks for this video. Excellent guide to start. Simple and clear explanation. I hope this summer I can make nice videos on Mac with Iphone, GoPRO, DJI OM4 and DJI Mavic Air. You did a perfect presentation at the beginning before starting the edition.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You are the first person I found on here that understands people who have NEVER attempted this! Perfect for the TRUE beginners - the fact that you speak about every little thing that happens during editing a video and every single function and go slowly is so amazing! I feel like I can finally edit the videos! You will be my go to when I get stuck.
Thanks for an awesome video, very helpful but I am having a major problem. I can't drag and drop the two clips that I want to use. They are both over 4 minutes each. When I tried a very small, short clip to practice with, it worked. I tried other short clips and they also won't drag and drop. I tried to update imovie and it shows that it's updating but never finishes. This is probably a software/memory issue but I have no idea how to troubleshoot it. I am on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6 Thanks for any help you can give me!
Thanks for all the videos. I have a question about the import function. I have an external hard drive with all my video clips, when I go to create a video and I browse to the folder where the video clips are and select the videos to import, does imovie make copies of the high resolution clips paste them into the folder where the new video is being created. I would think that running imovie and editing clips would be faster on my internal ssd than an external standard harddrive. Plus my internal ssd drive isn't as big as the external drive, so I just want to make sure I don't have two high resolution copies of every clip taking up space. Also how does imovie handle different frame rates, i know i have gopro videos shot at 24, 30, and 60 fps, along with cellphone videos shot at whatever fps they may have been set at. Thanks for any info you can provide.
Great questions! So I believe there is a setting to check/uncheck for whether iMovie is to create copies of your files or not. I know that for me, iMovie projects take up a TON of space and I don’t know if there is a way around that. For the resolution and frame rate, whatever resolution and frame rate you want the video to be when you export, make sure to put that on your timeline first when you’re editing. That’s how you set those specs (weird, but that’s how it works).
Thank you for reaching out. I've already done my first movie & I am looking forward for more editing in the coming days. Greetings from Vanuatu 😁😃👍🔥🔥🇻🇺🇻🇺🇻🇺
Great video! Quick question, once I have finished editing my video but do not want to upload to RUclips, save as a file...how can friends/family view the video?
Importing Media is ALWAYS where I get stuck & want to quit. I don’t get the option to see my movies in “Photos” App. Where should my Macbook Pro movies be? What file? Or, should I just copy the clips I want to edit, directly to my Desktop so I’ll know where they are & have the option to get them. This is so frustrating. Looking closely she’s importing from a a G-Drive. I don’t have any drive option. All I see is: My Movie / Photos/All Events/then Movie Library with just 1 option Below it with 1 date! There’s no other options. Maybe this has to do c with actually ORGANIZING the Library contents first? Geez 🙄 I need help.
I just lost hours of editing work because iMovie suddenly shutdown when I tried to "reduce noise". You said it automatically saved, but when it immediately opened by itself after crashed, I didn't see my edited video. Seriously, is there no way to save the video manually? I'd like to do it every 5 minutes.
Lady, you're saving my life :)
☺️

Thanks! I use ScreenFlow for my screen captures most of the time.

If this chick can edit a video, literally ANYONE can.
"Well we all shine on ,like the moon the stars and the sun", said "John Lennon"
Is there an “undo” button on the screen? To use the mouse rather than the keyboard?
Thanks 😊 for showing us how to edit

Thank you, thank you, thank you Meredith!!! Very clearly presented. You are awesome!
☺️ glad to hear it Christine, thank you!
Very clear and helpful, thanks. But I'm having problems navigating back to the beginning of my video.
Having problems also. My iMac, iPhone, & iPad never displays anything like she shows here. So far NOTHING WORKS.
thanks so much for breaking it down and making it simple for me to understanding! I struggle with tech and this was an awesome beginner explanation. So appreciative!

Oh strange! I’m not sure what would cause that 🤔
Meredith Marsh I figured it out.
I’m using an older version OS, so I opened a version of iMovie that is compatible with the OS, problem solved!
Thanks for all the videos. I have a question about the import function. Do you have a tutorial how to export a video for RUclips in 1080/60??
wasted 5 mins in fast forward!
Great video! Quick question, once I have finished editing my video but do not want to upload to RUclips, save as a file...how can friends/family view the video?
