The Isopropyl alcohol helps to incorporate additives into the soap base and burst any bubbles for a better final result. It is not absolutely necessary, but it is beneficial to the final outcome of the soap.
I am beginning my soap making journey and really appreciated this video. Are you based in Canada? I noticed the links brought me to Cdn sites...a pleasant surprise.
If you use a high percentage alcohol (e.g. 99% Isopropryl Alcohol) and only a tiny amount to dissolve the mica, the alcohol should evaporate and not leave any scent in the soap. If you find a better way to do it that works for you, I'd love for you to share it. Thanks for watching!

The Alcohol in the mica makes the soap smell awful in my opinion .
