Yeah pretty much, the ring appears automatically when you are attacked and you have to hold down the R1 button for the ring to glow and after that, press the Square Button for a counterattack dodge. The dodge is a bit funky but it gets easier the more you use it

I still need to practice on that whole dodge ring mechanic. Do I just stand still and dodge at the last second for the ring to appear?
