the easier way to do this is through set dec and wardrobe. you have a bluish/grey couch with pale walls - throw an orange or yellow t-shirt on, and a warm lamp in the back corner. that way the look is all done in cam. won't even have to noodle with WB. principles are here tho but it also demonstrates how even just light/color grading can't do it. need those colors in your frame.
I actually love that you brought this up. Most people equate high budget looks to simply camera, lenses, and money, but you hit the nail on the head. Attention to detail and conversation with the DP, wardrobe, and set design really builds the look that everyone talks about.
