- Los Angeles boasts the most donut shops in the country. It started when a man named Ted Ngoy came to California in 1975 as a refugee from Cambodia. Within three years he became a millionaire, creating his own chain of donut shops across the city. A new documentary, “The Donut King” tells the story of how he achieved his American Dream and then lost it all. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more. #InsideEdition
Imagine being called the “Donut King” what an accomplishment
This man was already successful in Cambodia and came to this country very rich. Don’t be fooled by the war torn country he was one of the elites. Do some research Before being so gullible to whatever the news says
UniversalChat Chat they didn't say anything wrong there saying that even if he was rich being called donut king is an honor. Plus the man came with thousands of dollars only
@@cookie_lover8694 He didn’t he came with more it just made the story look better for him to say he came with that. And with inflation couple of thousands mean a lot more
Yes its an American dream
@@unvcht5046 shut up and let the man enjoy his donut crown
Imagine moving to the USA, having nothing to start with, and becoming a millionaire as well as employing fellow immigrants let alone house them!
This man is legend doing great work that our own government cant help with lil things like this to help people
And dodging taxes and whatnot..Probably never even bothered to become a legal citizen.
You realize what he did was illegal right? Had he had to go about things differently the outcome would probably also change.
@Steven Seth Nah
I have always lived in the USA

It wasn’t gambling, it was greed. Gambling was just the outward expression.

I'm very proud of Ted Ngoy and I'm also a Cambodian, but I was born in America

It’s sad to see people lose everything
I love donuts and their pink boxes
Free labor for the win once again.
At least they got to come to America and learned to set up their own businesses. That’s more than you’ll get in some places. Hopefully he paid them some kind of wage though.
Hard work and food always help the one ready to build a home and business and help his fellow beings.
almost exact story to my great grandfather in malaysia. minus the donuts, he lost everything and my great grandmother never slept in the same room with him until death.
I moved to mexico and I miss LA donuts. It's a dream to visit for the donuts.
He's enjoying life with young wife now in Cambodia 😁

I’ve never heard about him before, I’ll definitely be watching. I live in a small country town 5hrs west of Sydney. Our closest Donut King is a 1hr drive, I have to got to that town every month for medical appointments and I always get Donut King donuts to take home for my kids.
