The category 'glitchless' needs to be renamed to something clearer. Yes, I know that 'glitchless' is basically the easiest way to describe runs without large skips. However, a 'glitchless' run that involves glitches can be confusing to anyone not already familiar with ME running.
If asking the speedrunning community to rename the widely accepted category is ridiculous, then so should expressing frustration towards said minority once they inevitably get confused over it, as evident by the hostility from both sides of the conversation has been going so far. It is impossible to entirely define what and what doesn't count as a glitch, yes. That hasn't stopped the community from defining it and naming a category 'glitchless.' There is a general consensus around what constitutes as one and what doesn't. It is not the equivalent of going to a sports match and changing the rules. Renaming the category to more transparently reflect the rules of the run would not impact the run itself, as changing the rules of a match arbitrarily would. The removal of these smaller scale exploits in a glitchless run however, would be the equivalent.

They need to rename “glitchless” because many people are confused by what it means. It means that no major glitches are allowed but smaller glitches are, I think it should be called “no skipping”. But if you have a better name just reply it

I plan on creating an entire category called Majors only where you are required to use every out of bounds glitch in the game, but have to use intended mechanics to open doors and use vaults.

Actually the reason for this bit was that the mirrors edge glitchless rules were and somewhat still are pretty disputed(rightfully so) and while it is fun to run it’s not really glitchless.
The couch guy and the runner planned this and it’s super obvious. I’ve also heard in the comments they planned it to expose how easy it is to glitch this game. Couch guy’s “savage” jokes seem too forced to me. Almost like it was planned.
So i have been running this game for about 6 years since the days of Ovendonkey. All I have to say is that difficulty doesn't change much in the game except the rng of guards in maybe 5-6 occasions other than that, you dont really come into conflict with guards. The focus of the game is the parkour not the rng guards. The glitched mechanics of the game are insanely hard. most def this is a top 10 game in terms of difficulty to run. Dont believe me? go watchPhillotrax, REQ or TheWalrusMovement's runs. Althought my skill level is nowhere near to BlackBeltGInganinja I can still hold my own with an unofficial 39:24. This game takes weeks to get a sub 50 and months to get a sub 40.This glitchless category is just misnamed. As Chops said, it should be called Glitch LESS and not glitchless. The official name (if youre reading this req please consider it) should be No KG/Checkpoint skips. I personally think these categories should be either ANY%, 100%, Intended ANY%, Console ANY%. Having a half baked version like No kickglitch but platform spawning is ok category is kinda lame. The reason BBGN probably chose to do this is because it takes over 500 trys to get a live RTA sub 35 minute run live on stream for ANY% He wanted to guarantee a good run and set a RTA record for this crazy category. Yea he died a bunch and messed up easy strats but the pressure of being on stage while running this game is huge. The game is insanely punishing. Satsuketheanimator's sub 40 live was absolutely insane. In my PB I died 4 times. I really want to build a better PC to post something officially but I live in Japan and it is difficult.
The run was legitimately "glitchless" and DrTChops was joking. They were both poking fun at the exact types of people going "but he used so many glitches" in the comments right now. The problem is not the run, it's that speedrun lingo is sometimes lazy/incorrect and easily misunderstood. Almost no glitchless run is ever actually glitchless, but it always avoids a certain set of glitches that would skip massive amounts of the game. e.g. if someone goes for a "glitched any% run" and there are tons of glitches and exploits in the game then he might just hjave found a way to skip right from the intro straight into the ending cutscene, glitching and finishing the game in seconds. Meanwhile other runners will then dub their "glitchless run" (which simply does not use that one big insta-finish glitch) but still use minor glitches to skip animations or use minor shortcuts that save them seconds or miliseconds, meaning they did use some glitches and calling it a "glitchless run" is horrible naming convention, but there is actually a set list of glitches that are still allowed in glitchless for most games. The few games where glitchless is truly without any glitch whatsoever tend to have almost no actual mechanics or are so extremely short that there's barely any glitches to begin with. I'd understand if people were like "why can't we go back to calling it 'no major glitches' instead of 'glitchless'?" but that naming convention is not decided by one specific speedrunner but by the entire community and runners like this oner simply adapt to it. e.g. for people that know Dark Souls 2: If you call your run of it glitchless you are definitely not allowed to use the shrine glitch to get to drangleic castle without having collected the 4 boss souls or 1.000.000 souls since that would be you using a glitch to avoid what is a good 50% of the game, meanwhile using a weapon that deals a busted amount of damage if you buff it eventhough it is supposed to be unbuffable could still be considered fair game in a glitchless run. It is obviously still an unintended mechanic but if the people setting up the rules for glitchless go "tbh. anything is fine as long as you are not sequencebreaking" that can easily be considered a fair glitch in a "glitchless" run.

Every glitch he highlighted as being no-go for Glitchless was done by him at one point or another, not to mention, a person could use his exact same logic and strategies and nail a better time.

The amount of arguments here in the comment section and the controversy over DrTChops vs the runner is a symbol of an underlying problem with this game and it's categorization of speedruns. The line between what is and isn't a glitch is blurred because in this game, a lot of glitches occur as a byproduct of playing the game normally. Someone could kick off a wall and spawn the invisible floor that is present for one frame and their run would be invalidated because it wasn't 'glitchless'. I think the categories really need updating or evaluating to be a bit more specific with what is and isn't allowed.
For all people that says it's not glitchless should do some research first. And one thing more. Complaining about EASY difficulty? Seriously? All PC games that need you to run fast are run on easy. Because you show your tricks skill and not how lucky you are when that guard shoot you 3 times and not 4.

It is impossible to entirely define what and what doesn't count as a glitch, yes. That hasn't stopped the community from defining it and naming a category 'glitchless.' There is a general consensus around what constitutes as one and what doesn't.
It is not the equivalent of going to a sports match and changing the rules. Renaming the category to more transparently reflect the rules of the run would not impact the run itself, as changing the rules of a match arbitrarily would. The removal of these smaller scale exploits in a glitchless run however, would be the equivalent.
Yeah, clearly the person doesn't give a shit about speedrunning since they're watching it and making an actual effort to understand the rules within it. This support, effort and interest is entirely meaningless. By all means, continue to insult them for daring to give a shit.

The problem with mirror’s edge is that it starts glitching the faster you go. So optimal movement means glitching. So I would call it “Minimal Glitches”

I plan on creating an entire category called Majors only where you are required to use every out of bounds glitch in the game, but have to use intended mechanics to open doors and use vaults.

The couch guy and the runner planned this and it’s super obvious. I’ve also heard in the comments they planned it to expose how easy it is to glitch this game. Couch guy’s “savage” jokes seem too forced to me. Almost like it was planned.
So i have been running this game for about 6 years since the days of Ovendonkey. All I have to say is that difficulty doesn't change much in the game except the rng of guards in maybe 5-6 occasions other than that, you dont really come into conflict with guards. The focus of the game is the parkour not the rng guards. The glitched mechanics of the game are insanely hard. most def this is a top 10 game in terms of difficulty to run. Dont believe me? go watchPhillotrax, REQ or TheWalrusMovement's runs. Althought my skill level is nowhere near to BlackBeltGInganinja I can still hold my own with an unofficial 39:24. This game takes weeks to get a sub 50 and months to get a sub 40.This glitchless category is just misnamed. As Chops said, it should be called Glitch LESS and not glitchless. The official name (if youre reading this req please consider it) should be No KG/Checkpoint skips. I personally think these categories should be either ANY%, 100%, Intended ANY%, Console ANY%. Having a half baked version like No kickglitch but platform spawning is ok category is kinda lame. The reason BBGN probably chose to do this is because it takes over 500 trys to get a live RTA sub 35 minute run live on stream for ANY% He wanted to guarantee a good run and set a RTA record for this crazy category. Yea he died a bunch and messed up easy strats but the pressure of being on stage while running this game is huge. The game is insanely punishing. Satsuketheanimator's sub 40 live was absolutely insane. In my PB I died 4 times.

The run was legitimately "glitchless" and DrTChops was joking.
They were both poking fun at the exact types of people going "but he used so many glitches" in the comments right now.
The problem is not the run, it's that speedrun lingo is sometimes lazy/incorrect and easily misunderstood. Almost no glitchless run is ever actually glitchless, but it always avoids a certain set of glitches that would skip massive amounts of the game.
e.g. if someone goes for a "glitched any% run" and there are tons of glitches and exploits in the game then he might just hjave found a way to skip right from the intro straight into the ending cutscene, glitching and finishing the game in seconds. Meanwhile other runners will then dub their "glitchless run" (which simply does not use that one big insta-finish glitch) but still use minor glitches to skip animations or use minor shortcuts that save them seconds or miliseconds, meaning they did use some glitches and calling it a "glitchless run" is horrible naming convention, but there is actually a set list of glitches that are still allowed in glitchless for most games.
The few games where glitchless is truly without any glitch whatsoever tend to have almost no actual mechanics or are so extremely short that there's barely any glitches to begin with.
I'd understand if people were like "why can't we go back to calling it 'no major glitches' instead of 'glitchless'?" but that naming convention is not decided by one specific speedrunner but by the entire community and runners like this oner simply adapt to it.
e.g. for people that know Dark Souls 2: If you call your run of it glitchless you are definitely not allowed to use the shrine glitch to get to drangleic castle without having collected the 4 boss souls or 1.000.000 souls since that would be you using a glitch to avoid what is a good 50% of the game, meanwhile using a weapon that deals a busted amount of damage if you buff it eventhough it is supposed to be unbuffable could still be considered fair game in a glitchless run. It is obviously still an unintended mechanic but if the people setting up the rules for glitchless go "tbh. anything is fine as long as you are not sequencebreaking" that can easily be considered a fair glitch in a "glitchless" run.
The problem isn't "glitch or no glitch" it's that it's goddamn annoying when done repeatedly for 50 minutes and it was never funny once.

The amount of arguments here in the comment section and the controversy over DrTChops vs the runner is a symbol of an underlying problem with this game and it's categorization of speedruns. The line between what is and isn't a glitch is blurred because in this game, a lot of glitches occur as a byproduct of playing the game normally. Someone could kick off a wall and spawn the invisible floor that is present for one frame and their run would be invalidated because it wasn't 'glitchless'. I think the categories really need updating or evaluating to be a bit more specific with what is and isn't allowed.

As you can see when he kicks off of the wall he does bounce a little bit, which, of you were not aware otherwise, could easily be confused for a kickglitch however, it is not a kickglitch.
A kickglitch would be if he were to jump just before the bounce allowing him to do an extra full jump
