My Ranger 305G’s have exactly the same controls as your Vantage. I have NEVER tried the downhill/pipe setting. I’ll have to give it a try. On the welding rods as well as wire, I never buy anything but Lincoln. When I was starting out, everybody was giving me free advice on what fillers I should buy to save some money. Most of the time I would end up throwing half a box of rods or a half a roll of wire away because it either ran like crap or it wouldn’t feed. Not saying Lincoln makes the absolute best of everything but, I’ve never thrown any away. I’ve always been able to use every bit I paid for. That seems a whole lot cheaper to me!
If you were a CWI now after all the experience you have, I would say you would do great at it, meaning you would probably give great insight to the welders so they could get better. That’s if they aren’t know it alls and not willing to take professional insight. Best to you!
I like how you have everything chopped down too just what you need on your rig and nothing else in the way of what you need. You obviously know how to get the good out of something and make it pay. Thanks for sharing! Enjoying the channel 👍
Lincoln Ranger/Vantage machines are all I use! I can Tig, Mig, Stick, Carbon Arc Gouge and then get tricky and fire up the K488/487 and spool Aluminum. .. Best machines I ever used. I never know what I'll be welding..
Lots of great tips , I’ve run a 300d , 305g , 305d , and now a vantage 400 and I gotta say I do really like the vantage, she loves to stack metal and has lots of jam, but will lay down 7018s like butter. Love the videos !
@@weekendwarrior4271 what are you disagreeing with ? I didn’t say the other ones don’t stack , I’m just saying I’m surprised at how well the vantage does ….

I used a vantage 500 one time for a job it was rental because our companies little welder that could had died. And man!!! I tell you what I really wish I had one of those for myself it was so nice welding with that thing
Love your take on its what you like, so true I run the arc force at different settings and have great results and I change it and it can stack it or run LH uphill it works for me to change it my partner never takes it out of the middle
Not that your asking. But I reallly love that you are such a dynamic welder and human. Have a vantage 300. Machine has been down for over a year bc of injection pump. Got a new pump machine starts and runs good. I have power to the generator but no power to the leads. All the displays work. Leads are good. Replaced the brushes Cleaned the slip rings with 500 grit Slip rings have 30 ohms 14v coming out of the 200 wire on pc board 52 volts coming from each cap leg Any help would be greatly appreciated
I have a Miller BB400 with a Caterpillar and it has some thing like arc force, it goes from soft to stiff. 1000 hours later and still playing with it. I'm not a pipe welder.
I’ve had very little problems out of any of my Vantage machines. Contrary to what everybody else said I would have. I’ve replaced the fuel injection system on one of them. And I had to replace the board on one of them. Out of 15 years that’s not bad
So that remote is an analog "relative" amperage adjustment device. There is none of that stuff where you yell out at your helper to bump up your heat by 5 amps?
That remote is a rheostat in your hand instead of on the machine. It will turn you up or down one amp at a time if that is what you want it to do. It isn’t numbered in amps because it will work on different amp machines such as Vantage 300, Flextec 655. So... yes your helper can turn you up five, if that is what you want.
That’s right. Instead of at five it would be up a 1/4 . From 3 1/2 to 3 3/4. But I’ve got my help her trained when I say up he knows to go up 1/4 at a time
I’m not saying it won’t work… i’m just saying I wouldn’t do it. I would buy vantage or a 300 D. They’re going to hold their value longer. And you won’t look like a greenhorn
Quick question i have ranger 305g i do a lot of downhill welding with it would you run it the same as a vantage im sure its the same technology behind it only difference is the motor is bigger and more powerful on the vantage obviously. Cause i know my 305g controls look just like yours.
I have the 400, I’m trying to figure the machine out, getting tons of arc blow on structural. But can you go uphill with 6010 when in the downhill setting? Trying to figure the 6010 with my machine, running into problems, sticking lots, not hot enough even though I’m running at 130 1/8.
Man im having constant water issues with my 300 vantage. I fill up my truck and welder at the same place. Yet it seems like my vantage always has excessive water in the fuel. I cannot figure it out.
I used to have that happen all the time. I put a fuel tank in at my house all the problems went away. I don’t understand it either other than crappy fuel
Think some of the reason guys want to know about diffrent rods is because they are doing things other then pipeline. Me I'm a fence builder, mobile repair and structural welder. (Can I weld pipeline, probably.. am I going to leave a 3 million dollar feedlot job I do with myself and 6 guys in 2.5 months to go do a pipeline job. Absolutely not lol) Main rods I keep on the truck all the time, 6011, 7018, 8010 and stainless to carbon.

solid machine, only issue i seen is some of those vantage 300's cant burn 1/4" (6mm) 7018 too well. My ole pipe pro 350 rips them though. ha
I don’t know anything about 1/4” welding rods . You must have some big leads

Hey there. Really enjoyed the video. Got a question for you since ya seem extremely knowledgeable about this machine
I know how to use it, but I know very little about repair

Is there advantage to welding with a diesel machine rather then a gas? Will you still get the same quality of welds from a gas??
diesel is better on fuel, and generally last longer. Personally i find most diesels have a bit more " push/drive" than a smaller gas welder.
