Thanks for the breakdown just bought one for 40 bux that leaked, turned out the group gasket, and boiler check valve were bad parts on order! thanks again!!
Great detail and clear camera work. I don't think a water softener removes minerals. I usually use distilled water to avoid such deposits, although some say you shouldn't use it for coffee.
Brilliant video and has helped me fix my machine. Two things I found that may help others, IMHO and follow at your own risk etc.; (1) Remove the top cover and top bolts before the four underneath. This gave me something to turn against as the top ones were incredibly tight; (2) On my model, the boiler unit is sealed and you cannot do more than remove the locking ring. Don't try to force these apart!
Mind Your Own Business The boiler on my Gaggia Pure didn’t come apart, a shame because I only wanted to make sure it wasn’t all calcified on the inside.
Great video! Thank you for this instruction. I would suggest also removing the thing under the bottom part of the boiler (the round metal thing with lots of holes in it that is frequently in contact with the grounded coffee).
good job. I was wondering why those little plastic pieces were not on the schematics, how could Gaggia do that to us? Your right about the design quality. Thanks.
It’s hard to say. How often do you descale your system? When you disassemble it it’s pretty basic as far as water flow goes. Follow the lines from the reservoir to the head and ensure you don’t have a blocked line or something malfunctioning.
No, I never glued the plastic back on. Additionally, I would only recommend using a food grade safe adhesive to anything that is associated with human consumption of the product it produces. Otherwise you could plausibly have chemicals leach into your coffee that aren't safe for human consumption.
Scotty D i have a new machine ,wanted to repair that one ,glued it but seems like the epoxy is hot heat resistant and softened ...will have to think of thickening the gasket so the portafilter makes better seal! Thanks for advise!
I did try but sadly no FOOD SAFE adhesive would take to the parts to make a solid connection. I don't recommend putting any other type of adhesives as this is around liquid that will be consumed and if it's not FOOD SAFE it can leak toxins into your espresso shot.
Scotty D Thanks for quick reply. That's a bummer. On the side note, those who designed it obviously had some product life expectancy management on mind...
MrQzn I agree... in fact after 2 years running this machine and dealing with this locking ring issue within the first year and quickly as the second year wrapped up, more issues... I grew very tired of the poor design. I have recently swapped out for a Delonghi Dedica. Yes it's still on the entry level of Espresso Machines but it appears to be designed better. Before I start an espresso argument among the masses, I know, it's not an apples to apples comparison as the two are designed different in many respects. That said, IMHO, the Dedica delivers more accurate and flavorful espresso shots than the Gaggia Espresso Color. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KA8YC6A/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00KA8YC6A&linkCode=as2&tag=iw09-20&linkId=RFH5M33JBL435GT7
Scotty D hey man, really annoying when companies make deliberate design fails to get to your pocket. that could have been easily some metal that doesnt' wear over time, instead of the rubber or plastic things. The one thing I liked in the Color is that they used the inside with commercial parts and that handle also is like the commercial ones, the major downside was the plastic outside and these plastic rings, but what can u do
after almost 10 years your video has helped me - thanks
We’re you able to find a replacement gasket/housing?
One of the best how to videos on RUclips, great job!
Thanks!
Great video, worked for me and also very entertaining. For some reason I was constantly smiling while watching this.
Thank you so much!
Я затрахался разбирать её.
Отвёртки у тебя зачётные.
Thanks for the great teardown video. Very helpful to watch before attacking my unit to fix a broken compressor switch. Cheers!
can u share to me where to buy filter locking ring ? thank you
Thank you for a very detailed description. I'm going to do the same thing this weekend.
Thanks, this instruction was exactly what I needed.
Seems your link is dead, anyone got a link to buy the repair kit?
Thanks for the breakdown just bought one for 40 bux that leaked, turned out the group gasket, and boiler check valve were bad parts on order! thanks again!!
Also Wholelattelove.com has all the parts for these on hand fyi.

was hard to find this, and its amusing as well
Anyone know where to order the filter holder head in Canada? Or is there another way to fix it ourselves?
Very infomative DIY video, in many ways.
Thank you, I have the same machine and the same problem. Now I know what to do.
Hello Sir;
Does it have an OPV?
Regards.
hi do you think I can use silicon instead of 2 piece epoxy for those small plastic parts?
same issue wit machine here, this gasket may be hard to find
Really helpful - thanks buddy
+Damian Walsh Glad I could help!
Thank you very much for your very useful clip. A question: where can I buy online the holder ring?
You're welcome... not sure online. I got mine directly from the support company mentioned in the video.
No water going through the head. Do you know where the problem is at?

Thank you!
Did you manage to glue back the plastics onto the aluminium head?what glue did you use as i am planning to do with 2 part epoxy. Thanks

Hey, did you managed to fix/glue/repair the old locking ring that you removed? I'd like to try that before ordering a new one :)
I did try but sadly no FOOD SAFE adhesive would take to the parts to make a solid connection. I don't recommend putting any other type of adhesives as this is around liquid that will be consumed and if it's not FOOD SAFE it can leak toxins into your espresso shot.
