Remember. If a rider calls you through the app and they get your voicemail, your default voicemail prompt may read out your actual phone number to the caller. At that point they have your personal number and can call you or do a reverse phone number lookup online and get your physical address, etc.

I always check the back seat area myself as passengers are exiting my vehicle. When in poor lighting, whether in a garage, at night etc, I turn on all interior lights and check the back seat area as they're leaving. Turning on the lights also helps passengers as they are checking to make sure they have everything too.

Safety Should Always be the Number One Priority for Uber and for a Passenger to show up at your place is something that should not happen. Uber needs to take responsibility and deactivate that passenger permanently for showing up to the driver home.

James is spot on with cancelling a ride at the first sign of negativity - Now, I always follow my gut and cancel at anything that gives any negative vibe. I learned the hard way and many 1 star ratings and after about 2.5 years of driving (7 years 27,000 rides on both apps here in Vegas).
Here’s what happened to me: with a similar issue. Back in 2021 I had no idea a pax left their phone in my car. I also drive overnight. Around noon, I was startled out of bed to loud banging on my door at my apt complex. I answered and they informed as to why they were there. I said, “I don’t have your phone. Sorry” They pushed the issue by saying they did “find my phone” and it lead them to my apt complex and my car. I said, “well you guys were my last ride. Maybe it’s in a crevice between the car door and seats or it fell under one of the seats.” Sure enough, it was under the pax front seat.
Unlike James, my neighbors were familiar with me (I lived in the same unit for 5 years and I had driven many of them during the shutdown when they couldn’t get a ride on the apps.) So I’m sure the pax asked a neighbor “where does the driver of this car live. He has my phone.”
It was a bit unnerving. And no, I don’t check under the seats and in door crevices for phones or other items left after each ride. That’s unrealistic! Stopping after every ride, getting out of the car and thoroughly checking the back area for left items is also not realistic (as infrequent as these situations occur). This suggestion sounds great in a perfect world / slow market, but not doable in a high volume market like Vegas or LA, SFO, NYC, etc) Sorry to contradict your suggestion. I do do a cursory glance towards my back seat to look for an errant item and/or a possible mess, but that’s it.
I pay for a burner number on TextNow. It costs $2.99. I give this number to the pax in situations like this (or if I’m asked to contact a rider with special requests like a Dr. appt pick up at the office. Nowadays tho, the apps seem to connect to the rider instead of the Dr.’s office’s front desk. And burner numbers can be free too. They just require using it 1x per month. I just text my real number. And using TextNow, I use my same fon. No need for another fon.

One of the crackheads forgot their phone, which was connected to my charger, so I tossed it into some bushes.
The other time a couple got in my car. The guy made a comment that made me reply that my car was not a cheap hotel. During the ride, he got pretty handsy with his girl and I told him to cut it out. He didn't. So, when he got out and forgot his phone, I gently tossed it onto some grass down the street. I have never driven anyone as drunk as her. She was a hot mess trying to leave my vehicle and kept bumping into the back of my car as she was trying to cross the street to her house. I felt like 911 should have been involved. I didn't know what to do. I felt like I needed to return her to her pickup spot or someone needed to be available to get her. II think they give the driver's address out. In my case, it was Lyft. Cops showed up at my door saying the ping was coming from my house. However, the phone was in my car out in the street, several feet away from the front door. The cop wanted to come in and was pushy. I yelled at them and said no until they left. After returning the phone, I was harassed by the rider for two days. They showed up walking in front of my house a couple of more times after I had already returned the phone. This phone fee needs to be $100+ or this device flies out of the window next time.

You don’t know each person’s reasons. For me, I’m 61. Ageism is real and few companies will not go past the fact that I graduated from college in 1985! I had a great career in retail with my last job being Director of Store Ops w/ a co. that had over 1200 store locations and kiosks at all the major malls in the US. 2009 the company downsized by eliminating my level of mgmt. B/C of the @Great Recession” no one was hiring on executives / Directors at the level of pay I was last paid. I knew my worth and offered to come down $10,000. Nope! I was told I’d most likely take a better paying offer at the first chance I got… I reinvented myself in 2010 and had a great career in the interpretation arena. However, in 2017, I moved to Vegas to help my family take care of our 82 y/o father. I started driving with U and L b/c it gave me the flexibility to work around appts, filling in when my brother and his wife couldn’t be there to watch him, etc. It was great money back in 2018 - 2022. (Except for the 6 weeks of the shutdown). Then these companies switched to UFP and took away the incentives that made up the difference for the fares only paying base fare rates.
Fast forward to today. My father is almost 90 now. He’s healthier than a horse. I still need to be available on a dime’s notice and I can’t commit to a job that requires me to work an official shift. I tried it and it didn’t work out. So, someone like me (I’m sure there are lots of others) who have to work within the parameters given. My AR is 40%. My CR is 11%. I make 30% less than my avg weeks before UFP was introduced.
Now, give me / us your thoughts on what someone in my situation should do?
