Ferry to Morocco and First Impressions of Tangier 🇲🇦: FionnOnTheRoad Episode 15

- In my opinion it’s always best to pick a travel option that allows you to see as much of the country and landscape as possible, so naturally when leaving Europe I opted to take the ferry from Algeciras, Spain to Tangier, Morocco! If you’ve been wondering what the ferry experience across the strait of Gibraltar is like then look no further and give this video a watch because in this episode of FionnOnTheRoad I’ll teach you exactly what to do… and what not to do. As I unfortunately discovered for myself that the ferry does not actually go to Tangier, at least not the Tangier I THOUGHT it did.
This is an incredibly beautiful city with hints of European influence in the architecture, while remaining a distinctly Moroccan city with it’s many distinct charms, and friendly population. After arriving in Tangier I take an afternoon to walk around the historic Medina, get lost in it’s endless maze of alleys and shops, and try a Moroccan classic, Tagine! Sit down and buckle up folks cuz this episode is a good one you won’t want to miss!

Morocco is the first country to recognize the United States independence in 1777. The only american historical landmarc outside the USA is in Tanger (the american legation) Nowadays its a museum. Enjoy Tanger!
That’s so cool I didn’t know that! I wish I knew before leaving Tangier, I would’ve visited the American legation museum had I known. Maybe next time!

Canadian are the friendliest people in the world! So cultured and they respect the cultures of the country they’re visiting! Cheers to all Canadians 🇨🇦🇲🇦
As a guest in other countries it’s only right that I do my best to respect everyone. Cheers right back at you my friend!
Thank you, everywhere in the world there's good and bad. All the canadians came from somewhere, the real canadians are the natives called " the american indians". We are settlers.
Can confirm - Morocco was a super nice surprise for me. I did go with a group but as a female traveller was a good experience also. I'd go back there in a heartbeat. Very authentic and the people are super nice
Oh wicked. I'm going there to meet my significant other for the first time. And I've never travelled abroad before 😆.
I was there a few weeks ago. We got the ferry from Tarifa & stayed at the old Continental Hotel overlooking the port. Tangier is fabulous.
It really is fabulous, so unique in comparison to other Moroccan cities, the best Medina walls in my opinion. Overall a great introduction to the country

Great video. Enjoyed your appreciation of Moroccan hospitality. I was down there 2 weeks ago and enjoyed very much from people, food, custom and above all the views of Tangiers and all around. May! God bless Morocco and her beautiful people.
Very nice country, amazing views , and friendly people
Morocco has a fantastic rail network with high speed and sleeper services. Tangier is a great starting point for any Moroccan train adventure and a fabulous destination in its own right. Tetuan and Chefchouen (the blue village) are also close by for instagrammable excursions.
I've been to chef 6 times 👌 the riff is my fave area.
LOVE YOU MOROCCO ❤️
You're most welcome to Tangiers...The cab driver was pretty fair...He would ask the same to a Moroccan national...All cab drivers have beenn hit hard by the soaring prices of gasoline...Beside Mohammed would probably drive back to the port with no passenger...Anyway ...To me it was somewhat correct.
Yes at the end of the day the price still wasn’t THAT bad! If I was with some other people we could’ve split it and been cheaper, I’ll make sure to do that next time
@@fotr just to let you know that the rate he charged you is the correct one. It’s been 300 DH for a few years now, I’m surprised they haven’t increased it.
@@fotr Just an FYI, Taxis in Morocco are fair cuz what I find out there is Taxi Police and they check on the drives time to time. Have fun, Morocco is a beautiful country and lovely people.

Omg this vlog made me soooo happy!!! As a Tanjawia and a resident of the city for almost my whole life, it is so refreshing to experience my home city through the a new lens! Especially a person who seems very down to earth, nonjudgmental, humble… it’s so cool. Thank you and so happy that you loved it.
Cute
Be my tour guide. I am coming in 2 months 😄
18:19 You missed the main entrance, if you walked a few steps you'd find big stairs that lead straight to a big door called "Sea's Gate", you didn't have to climb the hill to get to the Medina.
When I saw that part, I was like NO WAY YOU CLIMBED THAT WAY, haha!
My beautiful city, May Allah bless my country and protect us from evils
Hey man, I wanted to tell you that the quality in your videos are so good and I was pretty shocked when I saw ur sub count, u deserve way more! You are always welcome back to Morocco.

Welcome to your country Bro.
The taxi is a bit expensive but you have paid for all the seats: normally, the driver waits for the taxi to be full to return to Tangier. Enjoy Morocco bro
welcome to tangierrrrr, im living here for 24years 😍😍😍😍
Such a beautiful country 💕💕💖
a little correction: Morocco is actually very touristy and is thr number one visited country in Africa.
just probably thr period you were and thr area. tangier is a crossing town for many...thr hottest spots are ( Marrakesh, Fes, Chefchaouen, sahara.....) in my opinion is too touristy.
Agree
Welcome to Tangier I'm Ayman from the dry fruits and dates store I hope you enjoy your time in the old city of Tangiers Nice to meet you brother 😄

Welcome to Morocco anytime!!! 🥰
Feels like you're living in a vintage movie ❤️
Love your positive energy! We are ferrying to tangier today and this was helpful - thanks
the taxi doesn’t usually cost that much even if you travel from the north to the center of Morocco but you paid that much because you came alone so you had to pay for the rest 5 places who wasn’t there, its the only that can work for the taxi driver, anyway im happy that you’re enjoying your trip in our beloved country, have a good* vacation 🇲🇦❤️
Paying more for a taxi was really not a big deal, and still a good price for me compared to Europe! Next time I’ll try and find other people to split the cost with me for sure. And thank you! Morocco continues to be one of my favourite stops so far
Yeah he's right, in Morocco it works like that with the grand taxi's. So make sure to ask it if you're still in Morocco.
Nice country i love it

Welcome to Morocco
Thank you! Loving it here
In Morocco, you find two civilizations, ancient and modern. We keep the ancient from extinction. When you walk around in and out of the old, you feel like you've been in a time machine.
I am glad that you had a good time in my city. You are most welcomed to visit again. This time make sure you go to the mountain of tangiers, called Rimelat .. Really fantastic place. Also there are few touristic areas spread out in the city. Your best choice is to get the Red tourist bus. They have 2 round trip routs, one of them takes you to Rimelat.
Welcome to Morocco 🇲🇦 ❤️

Welcome, my brother, to Morocco, your second country, and welcome to the city of Fez, it is wonderful
300 Dirham is the standard price from Tanger med to tanger. They have fix prices
@@simo1722 30 euro is the normal price, it’s along road
No it’s not it’s 5 $ at best you can go from tangier to marakech with 30$
@@soundsforyou4612 Do not compare by miles/km, its a supply/demand rule, tangier med to tangier is requested and not all taxis provide the service, thus price is higher. Same thing for Marrakesh center to Marrakesh airport, you pay at least $10
+ he might have payed for three places, which is a standard *3 rule if he rides alone.
@@soundsforyou4612 The price is written in big at the exit of the boat , it’s actually 350dh in 2023, I saw the sign 48h ago
Welcome to MOROCCO 🦁🦁🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦
You are welcome🇲🇦💫❤
Morocco is a wonderful country! More people have to come here
You are super joyful like a kid discovering new toys, i hope you will never lose this spirit.
You can go to Tanger city port, from Tarifa ciy in Spain! the breakfast only 2 dollars you have to pay not 4 dollars, but eh it’s s better then Tim Hortons.
I love Tanger thé most beautiful city in morocco and North Africa and next Time go to dakhla waoooo Amazing city
First, welcome to your second country Morocco and its people are very generous.
I have some notes
1- about breakfast, Yes I feel it was a little high and I think you would have found a better place than that with a lower price.
2 Dates are types and their price varies from type to another. There are some dates that reach 16 euros, but they are among the best dates.
3 And finally it is the tagine. Haha, I know that you only taste 70%, but next time try to eat the tagine in the Moroccan way (that is, using bread), inshallah it will be a great experience
So really it was an awesome video, keep up your work and good luck broooo
Thank you so much for the comment man. I’ve learned so much already in the last couple of weeks, eaten many tagines (with bread now), and had a few types of dates. I think the Madjhool dates are my favourite, but also most expensive
I took a random trip without a program or a friend from the social networking programs that belongs to the city to have a visit to the most amazing and beautiful places in Tangier, in general, you and everyone are welcome
i enjoyed your video as a moroccan i lived in tanger for a while and i miss it now. welcome to morocco
You have to eat the food with the bread. Like scoop it with the bread, or use a fork to load the food onto bread. EVERYTHING goes with bread (except drinks)
Haha yes so I’ve heard. I’m doing my best to learn how to do things properly as I travel, and I’ve been eating with bread since I found out don’t worry 😉
i'm moroccan, and 300dh is too much for a ride near the city i'd say that it a scam, 300dh can take you from tangier to the south of morocco, which is hundreds of kilometres away.
Tourists must be careful when taking a taxi ride, try to ask a local about the transportation price range, or take a taxi who uses Taximeter, that way you're sure that he is not overcharging you.
it’s the price , it’s actually 350 as in September 2023 and it’s written in a huge sign will all the rates from all the destination in the region.
They are cheaper way to go to Tangier , bus , shared taxi but the price he paid is for individual taxi and this was the official price back then
welcome to Morocco . I live in Nador Morocco this summer I'm gonna visit tanger too
Thanks for the video. From Montreal.
A fellow Canadian! Thanks man
Tangier Med is Tangier’s new port. The old port doesn’t really “receive” fairies with passengers any longer because city’s getting too crowded and there’s already enough traffic everywhere you go so it became pretty much impossible.. Plus, they’ve created plenty of new job opportunities for residents of the city and surrounding areas so that’s awesome
The FRS Ferries from Tarifa go to the old port 'Tangier Ville'
Welcome... I m from tangier..
You need more support bro. Like fr, theses videos gotta be so exhausting and entertaining at the same time.
A tip, from Tarifa you can take a boat direct to Tangier city
welcome
It's amazing city😍
E muito bonito adoro os vídeos que vocês posta e lindo 👏👏👏🇧🇷
Merci...pour cette belle video..
Awesome video man, surprised I didn’t bump into you hahaha. I was literally just in Morocco taking the ferry from Tangier to Tarifa, now I’m back in Morocco.
If you paid 300 Dirham from the airport to Tangier and it's a white taxi, then I do not think you overpaid. That is exactly what I paid as a Moroccan and I know the prices. When a hotel calls those taxis for you to go to the airport, the price is the same. If you bring the blue taxis (meant for the city, not outside) to the airport which is not how it's supposed to be, but you can do that, then you pay less like 200 or 150 Dirham.
Edit: The breakfast that you had for 35 Dirham is good, High class cafes in Tangier cost only a small cup of coffee for that price.
And yes there is no rat problem in Morocco like in Europe. I think the cats have dealt with that because sure the Moroccan gov. did not.
And the Moroccan dates are good, but nothing tops the Saudi dates, especially those from Madina.
I can genuinely approve ehat you said about the taxi price ,yes that the normal price as i live nearby there
the guy was not overcharged at all. 300 dh is a fixed tarif. he should have gone to tarifa and got a ferry to tanger ville port which is right in the city centre.
300 dh, that's too much. With that amount of money you can travel to another city and still have some change. I think he was scammed.
@@giovanni6311 tanger med to city centre is about 44 km. to get a taxi on your own for that distance and for 300 dh. i think it s a fair price. I pay it myself and i am moroccan born. he could have gone outside on the road and wave a taxi shared with other 5 ppl for 20dh.
@@giovanni6311 The way you travel makes the difference. 300dh is exactly the right price. Do you think if he got scammed I would not say it?!!

Hi Fionn, I have just stumbled on your channel and, of course, subscribed & liked! I am from Tangier, now live in Montreal, Canada, your homeland, and am very happy to rediscover the city where we live since 2013...For the taxi it's fair, because instead of riding with 5 more people, he took you there by yourself, which is awesome...Even me (as a born Moroccan), when I am in rush, or am just not in the mood to ride with anyone else, I just pay the fare of the other 5 passengers and get on my way...For the meal, the price is spot on, I would even say "it was cheap" for what you got....4$ CAD would barely get you a chewing gum here in Canada! Enjoy you trip and drink as much tea as you can, especially in the morning, along with " Baysara" (Payssar in local dialect) or beans' soup: very healthy and would keep you full until 2-4 pm, then you can get some fish (preferably sardines) at the port....I can't wait to go back to Morocco and Tangier, because my last saty there goes back to May, 2017! Best of luck from Montreal!
My guide's daughter lives in Montreal. He gave me an amazing first day tour of the Medina and Casbah in Tangier.

#FionnOnTheRoad first of all the cats are very loved in Morocco and yes also stray cats so that's why they're everywhere. Whole my life I drove form The Netherlands to Algeciras and took the ferry to Tangier. It's possible, you only unfortunately chose the wrong one to the Tangier Med (Industrial Port) 😁.
