Problem with Ireland is that they keep playing the same matchday squad week in and week out. How and when they will start building depth will be key to the progress. South Africa can basically put out 2 teams of very similar strength which is why they are such a good tournament team

    • @LeMerch

Not true. South Africas 2nd team would be crucified by Irelands first team. Not even close. Ireland are blooding players into key positions. 10, 15 and wings as well as some forwards. It will keep happening while keeping the winning momentum.

@@LeMerch To be fair the only reason there is new blood on the wing and FB is because of injury. If Hansen and Keenan were fit, they would have been playing every game. Good for Ireland in the long term but lets not pretend this was planned. IMO Centre and scrumhalf are bigger concerns given the age profile of starters and replacements.

France was the only real strong team who would have successfully challenged them to the 6 nations over the past few years. In a world cup you at the bare minimum have to somewhere face the Boks and the AB's and that's their achilles heel to greatness.

The only Irish going on about the "best team in the world" were some loud mouths in the media. They should be ignored, they don't represent Ireland well.
SA won the RWC so that description would represent them better right now. SA also lost to Ireland in the RWC though, so it doesn't seem that they are miles ahead of Ireland. Ireland, NZ and SA seem like the top teams at the moment based on results in the RWC, with little between them.
This Ireland team has a pretty good record lately even with RWC exit. Two Six Nations in a row, plus a test tour of NZ the year before that. SA have their RWC medals, but struggled in Rugby Championship lately.
