The Merlin was actually not as heavy as one could expect (around 650 kg / ~1400 lbs). For its size it's kind of a lightweighter. But sure - it is a big engine I agree with that.
This version is the Meteor. It’s a tank engine, but uses many of the same parts as the Merlin. But originally it was NA in the tank application. For this application the owner has taken two blowers from US 2-stroke diesel truck motors and fitted them to the meteor. The Meteor has kind of low compression ratio so it definitely can use some manifold pressure to unlock some power
@@mikeskidmore6754 - And? So what's your point? Are you saying that isn't fast? Try standing next to that motor with it's propeller spinning at 3500RPM (58 RPS).
@@KM-ug6il Yup when they started using Big Block Chevies like 5 of them with Blowers on them .. the Allison V-12's and Rolls Royce Engines could not compete for Horspoer for weight they turned the BB Chevies 7,000 RPM..

No one really knows. The Meteor is 550 to 650 hp and about 2000 Nm. I don't know how much boost Olle is running. The Merlin, which is about the "same" engine but super charged was about 900-1700 (and even more) hp. A rough guess is about 1000 hp.
As many, many, many should have pointed out by now: The Meteor engine is not supercharged, and when supercharged it was called the Merlin engine. So, either way, the title of the video is wrong.
BMH1965 This is a Meteor engine. When produced it was called Meteor. When used it was called Meteor. Mounting two superchargers, which are not the same model as on the Merlin, on it does not change its name.
As far as I know it is still fit for fight. It has not come to use for the last two summers tough since all events have been cancelled due to the current situation (covid).
Now I'll complain too with some tractor pulling politics lol "The sled wasn't weighted properly." (that's what every aggrieved competitor says after they've been beat. Hard to tell. The Meteor is about 600 hp. This has superchargers added to it. I'd say it's probably at least 1000 hp, which may or may not be very impressive considering its size (27 L) :)
Cool setup... love the sound of 12 cyl Rolls!
That engine purrs at idle, & roars when you open it up!
Nice run... awesome sound!
Yes, Yes!
Well that worked way better than I as well as all the critics from the other video thought!!!
He was flying very smoothly...
That's brute force ! Maximum respect.
That's the way to do it! Full pull - kudos!

Good power. Nice performance
Perfect 👌👌👌👌👌👌
Not bad for a 10 meter track!

Ooo brutalidade
It's amazing to me that a plane can fly with a monster engine like that in it.

What's truly amazing is that all that horsepower was designed for the sole purpose of spinning a propeller really fast.
3500 RPM ???

How far is this actual pull?
I think they usually run 100 m (~109 yards)

i think the meteor engine was made by Rover cars, and the merlin by Rolls Royce, in this country anyway (England)
A supercharged Meteor is a Merlin, right?
Wichelroede
As far as I know, yes. The Merlin had other super chargers though and the performance might be different.
Wichelroede
No. The Meteor and Merlin are very similar in many ways but not the same. The Meteor was a tank engine and the Merlin was for aircraft.
Nice👍
Perfekt bygge👌
Do you still pull with it?
