      Ya but this isn't like that Duncan kid that buys trucks and equipment to tear up for views either.

    not built gin pole set up yet, but plan to mount high, on tall mounts, so I can flip it over roof, and use it in front, or in rear, as well as lift items to bed, plus when in rest position, over front of truck, it can become a carrier for steel, or a ladder rack. for bracing your poles for strength, look toward older vintage wreckers, the vintage tow trucks, they used external cable, or rod, welded to top & bottom, with several steps in rise, maybe 4"-6" in middle of the pole, that helped keep pipe from bending when doing pulling work.

      Old wrecker forums have some great pics of the classic equipment used, and you can salvage lots of good stuff like PTO, hydraulic and electric industrial winches (Ramseys share MANY parts so I collect those).

    This advice is worth what you paid for it, but I bent my 2-7/8 gin pole. It would lift 1200lbs no problem, but bent like a horseshoe when lifting 2000. Now I have 2-7/8 sleeved inside 3-1/2 with 7/8 sucker rod truss. Suppose I ought to put up a quick video, I lift 2000 lbs regularly with no deflection on the pipe.....kinda heavy now though. Half a joint long, same as your talking. Thanks for posting, I enjoy seeing how folks lift things.

    Damn bunch of pressure on those. Glad cable didn’t let go either.

    What about 2×3 tubing like 11ga. Or since tubing is stouter than pipe could u use a light wall like 14ga so 2x3 light wall. Btw seen ur video of the Jenkins boom. Way cool. Never knew about those. But ive built two booms, one that could mount on tractor hay spheres with chain rigging, and another 14ft mounted on a skid steer attachment plate. Cool videos chief

    If you were breaking slings with a backhoe, that should tell you something! I like the beefy mounts and look forward to new build.

    Is the gin pole pipe schedule 80?

    • @Jacob_Harley
      @Jacob_Harley  2 года назад +1

      Its 2⅜ pipe, im not t sure what they classify it as, its roughly 3/16 thick or so, so id say no.
      Ill be making new ones out of 2⅞ soon though.

      @@Jacob_Harley That’s schedule 40, in a way. Black steel plumbing pipe. Yea, I have to upgrade my gin pole pair to 2 1/2”” as well.
