Bernie well may be but when push came to shove, he folded like a deck of cards. If he had stood to the corporate democrats in congress when he and the other progressives had "force the vote" power, he could have forced concessions like public option, $15 minimum wage and a host of things that the American public are in desperate need of. In fact he did the opposite, He voted for the cares act which was the largest transfer of wealth to the the top 0.1% in history. He turned out to be a cop out.

It's because they're providing either business, housing, jobs, etc. Which therefore they don't usually pay taxes especially if they're providing real estate and they keep rolling their profits into more real estate that provides housing for others. Here in Australia, I'm on a pension so I get my painkillers for $7 a month per prescription, which works out to $21 for 3 separate types of medication. For an average Australian the cost might be $100. The current government is changing the law so it will cost the same for two months of prescriptions because they worked out the cost of a doctor visit was more than the medication. So it's cheaper to give people two months of medication at a time. I'm honestly flabbergasted and horrified when I hear about the cost of prescriptions in the USA. It really comes down to the cost of running a political campaign, when the cost is so high you open political candidates to having to do favours for political donations and then you have companies ( like the pharmaceutical companies) getting their way and that's the end of real democracy. That's a challenge all Western democracies are facing around the world.

Bernie is absolutely correct about healthcare & prescription drug costs.
I take a very expensive name brand drug that was supposed to have been available in generic form by 2021. The drug companies have used loop holes and manipulations to delay the generic version from becoming available for 2 years. The generic is now supposed to be available in 2024. I will not be surprised if they continue to block the generic form of this drug.
I will be on this med for the rest of my life. Like diabetics who need insulin, I must take this drug. I have no choice. So I have to pay whatever price the pharmaceutical companies demand.
I am an American. I got my expensive prescription filled in Australia last year (through a friend who was visiting there).
The price of that drug in Australia was HALF THE COST that we pay in the U.S. for the same, exact drug. That's outrageous and unconscionable. I (and millions of other Americans) must pay thousands each year for meds due to corporate & our congressmen's greed.
Bernie is also correct about our healthcare system. In the U.S., if you have a health crisis and are sick enough for long enough, you WILL GO BANKRUPT- even with good health insurance. I know this from experience.
Politicians keep telling Americans that we will face rationing of services if we change to a one payer healthcare system. That is a lie that they use to keep us from demanding a better healthcare system that is cheaper.
Americans are already experiencing rationing of services- by the insurance companies. They routinely deny services that are actually covered under your plan. Yet they refuse to pay for tests, procedures, and surgeries that are part of the package you are paying for. Doctors are being told by insurance companies that they won't approve and pay for treatments that the insurance companies decide are not necessary. They are usurping your doctors' prognosis and treatment plan in order to save money. That is costing American lives.
Republicans could become heroes if they would work with Democrats instead of against them in lowering healthcare & prescription drug costs. But they refuse to because they are getting millions from all the healthcare companies to keep the current, very lucrative system in place.
The enormous savings to Americans would be something that could be done without cutting programs and services, without raising taxes, and without pay raises.
But Republicans refuse to do it.

Shortest possible way to tell this story. Jan 1, 2020, the sawmill I worked at was sold to a larger sawmill . 90 days without insurance. 60 days in I thought I was having a heart attack, went to emergency room, was there 2 1/2 hours, wasn't heart attack. 2 months later went to hospital payment office to begin payment, told my story. They said "pay 50% now and we'll call it even." Withdrew money from savings and did that. I am sure they made a profit at half price or they wouldn't have been so quick to settle. I've no problem with doctors, hospitals or drug companies making a profit, but more than 50% profit on someone's health I find obscene.

Biden says he will not negotiate on paying the nation's bills. Spending cuts is not "the nation's bills". It is spending. Raising the debt ceiling simply means creating new dollars to pay the nation's bills. Nation's bills is debt. When you're deep in debt you have to reduce expenditure. And boost revenue.
Every household knows you don't go on spending sprees when you're deep in debt! There's only one thing you can do. Reduce expenditure and boost revenue. That sounds like two things but it is actually the same thing. Reduce expenditure, you have more money. Boost revenue, you have more money. And that's the only way to get out of debt.

There is one thing over the last 60 years that is very consistent in America. Issues like this always get worse for the working class people and much much better for people at the top. The founders of the Constitution worried more about this and any other issue because they realized that these conditions would be the death nail to the Republic.
